Are you a ST holder, Horlock? Considering your distance to the CG I’d guess not (fair play if you are!)

Hopefully you get a ticket to this one, given it’s a trek from here and it being close to Christmas I’m sure you will be fine.

No ST, don't think I have set foot in the Theatre of Broken Dreams this century (don't think I have been to Swindon for 15+ years).

Despite the game being a mere 28 mins by train (on which basis I reckon I could do door to door in under an hour) I will not be attending as in a great example of sods law we are away that weekend, booked before the fixtures came out.

I suspect I would have struggled anyway, despite being on the run  up to Christmas its a new ground for probably 99% of our supporters and can be combined with a trip to the Lakes for the romantics out there.

That's rotten luck.

What is the away allocation at Barrow?  I'd just assumed that we would be able to get tickets for this easily.  But maybe not, as you say.

In which case you could make your place available for any of the travelling army that might wish to stay over.
Just leave the key under the front door mat and a box for donations.
A well stocked beer cellar would do me, but some others might require food as well.
Northern hospitality. Job done.  :)

Town have been allocated a total of 646 tickets in the Away End - including 112 seats and 534 terracing. (lifted off the STFC website)

You should be fine here.
It’s a long way and costly. Would have thought plenty to go around with this game.

Fond memories of Barrow. I worked for Manpower in the mid-seventies and my first assignment was two weeks at British Cellophane in Barrow, in a group of c10 from Swindon and Gloucester. I think we worked 8 til 8, but still managed to go out every night to various Working Men's clubs etc, including one night in Barrow FC Supporters Club. Very friendly locals. Happy days...

I called up just now as well, as junior tickets were not being offered online.  There were just 4 seats left when I called, and about 200 terrace tickets.  So 450+ sold so far.

A turnout approaching 500 for a place that is not the easiest to get to and in December would be excellent.

Wouldn't be surprised to see near sell outs for Walsall & Orient as well.

Barrow ticket arrived in the post yesterday.
Had selected pick up from club.  ???

TBF its not actually that hard to get to by train and the ground is very close to the station, its not like sodding Salford which is either a bus or a bloody expedition to get to from the station.

As noted before I wouldn't be surprised to see us sell out what with it being a new ground for the 92'ers, plus the lakes to lure other halves with, equally its a direct train ride from Manchester so scope to combine with some Christmas shopping and the Winter Markets (where alas I will be!).

If anyone wants to camp in the garden drop me a line!

True, a longer train journey and a short walk to the ground is preferable to messing around with buses plus a longish walk.
Train to Barrow is about 6.5hrs from Swindon with two or three changes & generally via Manchester.

How close are Workington from getting back into the EFL.  :)

About as close as Barrow is to Swindon I think! Northern Prem Div 1 so (I think) 3 below the National League), Christ on looking I didn't realise they were in the same league as Kendal Town!

We had the Carlisle-Barrow Cumbrian Derby up here the other week, first times in years, Northern Rail put on a proper Footex as well which wasn't dry!

1400 Barrow I hear.
Cumbrian Derby. Can be a little frosty at Carlisle.
Mind you for Northern lower league games Hartlepool v Darlington the worst.
That is simply hell on.

About £138 for a return for me.
That's from Swindon.
Not sure how that would compare with driving up.
Letting the train take the strain would always be the preference, for obvious reasons.  :)
Having said that, looking forward to the drive down to Exeter, if a ticket can be secured that is.

That’s playing 3 separate train lines and using 2 railcards.

Golden rule never buy tickets through one train line.
Even with this have all my seats booked.👍
Miss a connection though on way home and we are doomed ☠️

Many years ago on way home from Rochdale the car blew up as we just came off the motorway at North Stafford. Mate forget to put any oil in it.
So many stories that still bring roars of laughter in the pub.

Anyway blagged it all the way back to Didcot without costing a penny.

They have been higher up the pyramid since they dropped out of the league I think. I looked at the table for their League a few weeks ago and they were top, but I believe they have slipped down since

Don't take my word that they don't, I can only comment on matters geography, I note that the club website is very silent on matters parking. I suspect there will be plenty of on street, but again cannot comment on its legality.

Quick look on Street View shows plenty of terraced houses/back to backs in the vicinity of the ground (rather like Swindon, actually).  With no visible parking restrictions.  Can't really see parking being much of a problem.

Afraid not.  But you would think that Barrow would have no probs printing you a few tickets on the spot on Saturday if you turned up asking to buy.  I'd give their ticket office a call.

Milliom Red works (as agency staff) at Royal Mail and has been for about 8 years on and off now.
I was even his manager at one point.

Still chat football occasionally when our paths directly cross.

Horlock, I assume you are talking about using 2 season tickets to purchase Barrow.

- go here: https://www.eticketing.co.uk/swindontown/EDP/Event/Index/664
- change quantity to 2
- select terrace from £0.00
- select the number of tickets from correct catagories
- add to basket and checkout
- click the assign button on the "assign" link and select someone in your network.

I assume the above is what you've tried - where is it going wrong ? Do you not have others in your network?

I'm assuming its 1 per season ticket due to restricted numbers?

Title: Re: Barrow Away
Post by: horlock07 on Thursday, December 9, 2021, 11:41:19
Cheers, I don't have a season ticket just a normal account assigned to my name (I am not sure whether I set this up ages ago on the off chance I might want to buy tickets or is related to the fact that I have bought stuff from the shop online?).

As per your destructions above the problem is arising in so far as being billy no mates I have no one in my network bar myself and it won't let me assign two tickets to my name.

Did try calling them, the hold music is painful!

No I am not sorted so if you still have I am interested! Let me just check with my father in law that he still wants to come as looking at the forecast its going to be hammering it down through the match which might put off a bloke in his 60's who doesn't support the Town!

I'll come back to you ASAP.

Any tips for parking near the stadium?

There is a retail park/Asda next to the ground but no idea whether its policed on match days so don't take my word on that also a fair few terraced streets. I cannot imagine it being ahuge problem as I suspect very few home fans drive to games as I know no one outside Barrow who supports them round here!

Take the Mrs and leave her in Asda shopping for 90 minutes (as they love that sort of thing) then help her load the bags into the car. Parking sorted without any parking tickets  :harshfunny:

Tomorrow's forecast, if anything, is getting worse.  I keep looking at the blue skies outside my window and briefly get my hopes up - before remembering it's tomorrow that's the problem.  And that I'm currently 200 miles north of Barrow.

FWIW its a really nice day here today (11 miles from Barrow)! I think the issue will be how well their pitch drains the water from later in the week, our lawn drains pretty well and its still extremely soggy!

Ah gotcha, yeah we are about 13 miles from Ulverston in the car, or about 5 miles as the crow flies but there is a bloody great big estuary in the way.

Seems an unnecessarily twattish think for Garner to say TBH.

I wonder whether his comments were taken out of context.  There's not a lot of detail there.  And it does seem an odd thing to say.  Suggests that Barrow might be doing something underhand if it was called off...and there's no basis for suggesting that.

Sounds as if Garner was uncharacteristically spiky. Then there was this on Grant:

Quote
We'll assess every player's future in January. We just want to come out of each window stronger than when we went into it. Grant had the chance to stake his claim against Colchester, and he didn't take it. That's football, says Garner.

Yeah, he's finished here isn't he.

Grant was TEF MoM in that game, but what do we know? Garner wouldn't be so categoric if he hadn't already made his mind up.

Absolutely, Grant was easily the best player in a Town short for that game, thanks for the good times and good luck for the future big man.

Pre pre match exploring strange new worlds in The Furness Railway.
As a sole trader decided to treat the loyal workforce to a Christmas party for a change.
No secret santa, speeches or handing out awards, well maybe a bag or two of dry roasted peanuts.

Could have stayed in Lancaster or somewhere in Lakeland or even in Preston. Nope went for the budget option instead.

There is a Plan B (no, not that one) for watching some football tomorrow if the game is called off.
We'll see.
Sunshine & showers here so far.

Asda Mate.

Also look on the club website, they have an agreement with a company to park at a site a bit beyond Asda if Asda is patrolled?

This one is also a hotel, but booked into the Travelodge next to the ground.
Ok with drinking in a 'spoons, not sure about staying in one overnight.
Post match fine dining options look to be thin on the ground.
One Turkish restaurant in the town centre that looks promising.

Gut feeling is that the game won't survive the predicted deluge in the morning.
I'd imagine that a very heavy pitch would handicap both sides.

Has anyone heard anything on the timing of a pitch inspection?  Surely they're going to have one.  I was honestly expecting to hear something before it got dark this afternoon (ie now).

🎟️ | Tickets will be available to buy on the gate tomorrow, with a £1 price increase.

For those who also need to collect tickets, you will be able to collect from Barrow on the day too.

Not heard a dicky bird up here and it continues to be short but extremely heavy showers interspersed with dry! Supposed to start raining proper at 9am tomorrow AM.

Cool, I have replied to @paolo69 regarding the spares he had (but I wonder if he works normal hours and thus can't reply), but at least the fall back on the gate is there if necessary!

Nice to get the surprise that the away end now has a roof as I was envisaging a Stratton BAnk kind of afternoon!

Now replied Horlock. You're right, damn work! The roof may prove a god send for us if the game does go ahead.

If this gets called off after 11 I’ll be in Lancashire with an advance return ticket for the first train out of Barrow after 5 so will either have to spend a fun afternoon in a wet Barrow or buy new return train tickets to get home earlier.

If it gets to that I would recommend you stay in Lancaster and drink there, much more choice than Barrow.

For me common sense would have had a pitch inspection today before the players left and if there was any doubt call it off as most fans would have been on the road tomorrow morning 3 or 4 hours.

Not exactly sure what good could possibly have come out of what Garner said pre-match. Perhaps he was just in a foul mood or something. Needless to say the Barrow official Twitter site made a point of this after they beat us which amused me.
