I think KKH would have made all the difference against Dale if he had started. Hunt is a solid right back but offers very little going forward and I don’t believe he’s a wingback at all. KKH will be able to help overload their midfield and get more crosses in the box. Hunt on Saturday looked to pass back or sideways rather than try and get a cross in.

So, a big ticket event tonight. Literally. An all dayer in London. A new ground. The battle for L2 survival going much better than expected. What's not to like. One previous meeting with Sutton. A 2nd round FA Cup tie in 1981. Wasn't part of the sub 3,000 crowd that Tuesday night for the last gasp 2-1 win. Must have been postponed on the Saturday. Can't remember. The first round game v Taunton shows as an away game in the record books, but no travelling involved that day, back when giving up home advantage was fairly common. A physical test tonight. Simpson should relish it. The back 3 have the attributes to cope and the midfield need to move the ball around quickly. Evening games seem to have a higher tempo for some reason, which should suit us. Anyway, no reason why it shouldn't be a glorious victory including a bullet header by Simpson from a pinpoint Iandolo cross. Sutton United are best remembered for the cup giant killing of Coventry in the late 80's and for Piegate a few years back with the very portly backup keeper filling his face in a televised tie & copping a fine and a ban from the FA for a breach of betting regs. We had loads of chances and Sutton really rode their luck.

I have found ifollow pretty easy. i generally just goto the club site and get on there through my computer that i hook up to a tv. i have enjoyed the ability to switch between audio broadcasts. the home team broadcast generally has a little more crowd noise which can be fun. I also personally like the wider camera view than what i saw with the sky broadcast. i like to be able to see the field some. Thought we had them on toast for the first 30 minutes - not in terms of domination but in terms of looking a real threat everytime we attacked with pace and on the floor or moved them about. Second half we got a little frenetic after feeling the pressure from their long balls and knowing they had the beating of us in the air. Fortunately, we still carried a threat and McKirdy could, maybe should, have had a hat trick. In the end they didn't really create much but that is the way of their style - it's scrappy and sometimes it falls differently. I'd imagine they have done well because of it - teams get worried even if it isn't effective and before you know it a second ball has dropped to onw of their players and in it goes. Today we didn't get any unlucky bounces really and the players can't be faulted for effort.

home fans were something else. their own stewards were getting embarrassed. plenty of homophobic and just generally weird chants. at one point half their stand joined in.with a your dad's a nonce chant! was like a youth club thankfully the team turned up really good hard working win with so many moments of attacking quality and grit. I was worried for the first 10 mins after the 2nd half and that was pretty much it. That was a really good win and performance. They are a difficult team to play against - physical and rely on set pieces and second balls from punts forward - thankfully we don’t have to watch that style. The wind was tricky tonight (behind us second half which made their high balls, quite tricky to defend at times, and explains why we overhit some balls. We should have been 4-0 up after about half an hour rather than 2. We then had a shaky spell for 10-15 mins either side of half time, after which I thought we saw the game out pretty well. Good performances through the team - Hunt, Baudry particularly stood out at the back, Iandolo is improving on the left, Reed was excellent again, and Williams’ goal was outstanding. I was not in a good place to see, but I was surprised McKirdy was flagged offside for his disallowed goal. I thought 5he penalty was the correct decision, but overall the ref was poor - inconsistent decisions (generally in favour of the home team), the challenge on Reed was shocking (could have been a red) and on two occasions Sutton players raised their hands to push over Swindon players (McKirdy and Williams) with impunity. Garner got the subs spot on - East slotted in well for Reed and Gladwin likewise for Williams. A Sutton fan told me we are the best team they have played this season. A well deserved 3 points. Acknowledged we probably should've scored 4 or 5. They didn't have many chances, a header at JoJo towards the end and the penno. Ref gave them absolutely everything so it was tough to keep a rhythm going after a superb opening 35 minutes. It's a tough place to come though, Sutton were full of energy and very lively. They didn't create much but they were constantly pumping balls forward. A big test passed. Williams is different class, absolutely ran the show first half.
Shoutout to Baudry who took a lot of shit during the game but I thought had a really positive second half. Also the Sutton goalie who enjoyed the banter from the away fans. The key reason we didn’t get back into the match was the sheer physicality of Swindon- quicker to the second ball and they wrestled/muscled ( fairly in the main) when we were in possession to get the ball back or to stop us maintaining procession and do anything meaningful. I have no doubt that Swindon will be automatic promotion candidates so no disgrace. We need to pick ourselves up and make sure we get something from the next game. Don’t forget we never lost two consecutive league matches last season.. Honestly, no complaints about the score last night. Over the 90 I thought Swindon were the far better side, especially in the first half where it could have easily been a cricket score if they had a bit more luck and we didn't have Bouzanis. We have never faced anything of this quality at GGL since Arsenal. His ability to trap and control an incoming hard pass is second to none; he makes intelligent runs with and without the ball and he takes up good positions but his final pass or cross is invariably lacking. So we are not only doing better than we hoped at the start of AUgust, but better than when expectations were higher 2 years ago. Let’s get behind the team and manager. Last night I was in the home stand - tunnel side - not far from the place where our supporters were moved to (near the scoreboard). Some of our non playing personnel were sat just in front of us. From there I could see the penalty and the other handball a few mins earlier very clearly - both decisions were right in my view. Their supporters’ views on their forum - thanks to PV for posting those - are pretty accurate. How their manager thinks a draw would have been a reflection of play I don’t know. Apart from the late free header and the penalty, the only other chance was I when their winger got in behind one on one and Woolacott did really well to stand er than going down too early - a better save than it looked.
