Title: White Hart Post by: Posh Red on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 18:52:44 Looking at booking up somewhere for a couple of nights when we are down for a game, usually stay at Jury’s but it’s full the days we want, and saw the White Hart, anyone know what it’s like?
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 19:01:16 In Wroughton?? Not sure what the sleeping arrangement is like, but good food and good beer
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 19:04:18 The Premier Inn Blunsdon right on the A419 maybe a good alternative as it has good reviews
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Lardy Cake on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 19:16:47 I always stay at the Bolingbroke at Hook. Rooms are reasonable as is the price. Food is excellent as is the Arkells. Close to the M4 and R.Wotton Bassett for Lardy Cake !!!
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 19:19:05 Used to get a good Lardy cake from the bakery in Purton during the mid 80's
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Posh Red on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 19:27:27 In Wroughton?? Not sure what the sleeping arrangement is like, but good food and good beer No, It’s on Oxford Road just off the A419 Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Sippo on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 19:37:28 They are digging up the white hart roundabout and shutting it for 3 months. I would stay elsewhere.
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Posh Red on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 19:41:43 They are digging up the white hart roundabout and shutting it for 3 months. I would stay elsewhere. Ok cheers PS do you know what’s the diversion if coming from the A420? Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 19:46:03 The white hart roundabout will be closed to traffic w/c 16th August after that traffic coming from the A420 will be able to access the A419 southbound towards the commonhead roundabout but no access towards Covingham, Greenbridge or North towards Blunsdo for 3 months.
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Leggett on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 20:11:21 ... and you'll only be able to get back on the 420 coming Southbound too. Gonna be a frigging nightmare.
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 20:14:38 County Ground - Moonrakers - Blunsdon - A419 Southbound to White Hart. Crazy set up
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: 4D on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 20:45:17 The Premier Inn Blunsdon right on the A419 maybe a good alternative as it has good reviews This, with some nice nosh at the Cold Harbour Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 20:47:04 Agreed good pub grub right on the doorstep
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Bogus Dave on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 21:14:40 No, It’s on Oxford Road just off the A419 Oh right, as others have said it’s best to avoid that area for the next few months If it’s just a bed you’re after there’s a travelodge and a holiday inn in the town centre Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Leggett on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 21:36:25 County Ground - Moonrakers - Blunsdon - A419 Southbound to White Hart. Crazy set up So long as they've finished fucking up the Moonies junction too... Title: Re: White Hart Post by: SleafordRobin on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 21:41:20 I've stayed at Alexanda House in Wroughton on my last few visits Posh. Pretty good location & reasonable prices
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Chunkyhair on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 21:43:53 This, with some nice nosh at the Cold Harbour Gotta say, the food at the Cold Harbour ain't good from recent exprerince. Stay a the Premier Inn/Travel Lodge (whatever it is at the Cold Harbour) and take a 5 min walk to the Heart In Hand in Blunsdon - would highly recommend it. Not been myself but I know some peeps who have they both say good things. New owners took it over in April. Food damn good and portion sizes amazing - obvs not enough for Pee Lower to put on weight - not sure there is a portion that big, the fat cunt, but damn good food. Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Shrivvy Road on Friday, August 6, 2021, 06:41:53 Try the Goddard arms aswell
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: 4D on Friday, August 6, 2021, 08:07:55 Gotta say, the food at the Cold Harbour ain't good from recent exprerince. Stay a the Premier Inn/Travel Lodge (whatever it is at the Cold Harbour) and take a 5 min walk to the Heart In Hand in Blunsdon - would highly recommend it. Was always good when I've been, but I haven't been for at least 2 years now. Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, August 6, 2021, 08:40:39 The Premier Inn Blunsdon right on the A419 maybe a good alternative as it has good reviews We stay there occassionally as its close to my Son and Grandaughters, it is the worst Premier Inn we have ever stayed at, old, tired, 14 in TV's int he room, we now stay at the Kembrey one as its way way better.Try the Goddard arms aswell Awful hotel, we have stayed there twice too but never again, old rooms with no storage and wonky floors, 1/10.The best hotels for price/value are the Village Hotel at West Swindon (clean and cheap) and the The Sun Inn at Coate Water, nice clean and new rooms. Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Friday, August 6, 2021, 08:44:02 I forgot about the Kembrey a really good choice and easy to get to
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: 4D on Friday, August 6, 2021, 08:45:08 Could try a b&b on County Road, nice and close :)
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, August 6, 2021, 08:56:27 I forgot about the Kembrey a really good choice and easy to get to Its a well positioned good quality cheap hotel, me and the wife come up to Swindon probably 8 times a year from a Friday to Monday over the last 3 years so have tried pretty much every main stream and some smaller hotels, we have also hired the Swindon Apartments in Old Town which is good right next door to the Hop Inn, good value if you prefer an apartment to a hotel. Was so disappointed with the Goddards, we got deals twice there and the first time the bed was broke, the 2nd time the loo seat was broke, the beds were old and there was no storage, it was a good breakfast though, but I could never recommend it to anyone now. The best value is probably the Sun Inn at Coate TBH as its well placed and the landlord and staff are great. Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Bob's Orange on Friday, August 6, 2021, 08:59:34 Bit 'left' field but what about an air bnb?
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Friday, August 6, 2021, 09:00:24 It's amazing when you look deeper into accommodation local how many choices there are and it's great to Hearn first hand people's experiences. A shame about the Goddards considering it's history and I've never heard of renting an apartment for a couple of days etc
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: wokinghamred on Friday, August 6, 2021, 09:06:38 Always go Airbnb now rather than a hotel if I can. Had some excellent places at reasonable prices.
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, August 6, 2021, 09:15:51 We have used these a few times.

Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, August 6, 2021, 09:24:11 Do you ever manage to take in a home game when your up here I get to a couple but TBH mate a lot of our breaks are over close season May, June, July and August but the last one I got to was the Exeter home game, we stayed in Old Town for that, nicely positioned for the pub and football.Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Friday, August 6, 2021, 09:26:09 Its in your blood JJ irrespective of how many games you can get to plus family, relocation and health can get in the way.
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Arriba on Friday, August 6, 2021, 10:23:11 Holiday Inn at Coate is ok and you've the Sun Inn opposite which also does rooms now too. Both well located to get about from and also get to/park etc. Plus good for a drink/meal in the evening.
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Posh Red on Friday, August 6, 2021, 11:53:34 Thanks all, will have a look at a few of those.
We are in Cornwall the week before, travelling back on Friday so thought it would be easier to stay around Town on Friday night as we are at home Saturday. Want somewhere that it’s easy to get to the game on Saturday and also for coming home (ie near the A420), albeit with the roadworks may have to find a different route Title: Re: White Hart Post by: 4D on Friday, August 6, 2021, 12:23:07 I reckon the Sun Inn at Coate is your best bet. Close enough to get to the ground, you can also head out home via Ashbury from the Common head roundabout, to avoid the White Hart roundabout debacle.
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Friday, August 6, 2021, 12:25:20 Good shout going the back roads to Ashbury better than the M4 eastbound
Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, August 6, 2021, 12:44:08 I would highly recommend Sun Inn at Coate, decent pub, good home cooked food and very good clean rooms that are only a couple of years old round the back of the pub. And pretty cheap too TBF.

I’m far from a connoisseur on Swindon’s pubs food but I’ve never eaten better in a pub. Title: Re: White Hart Post by: 4D on Friday, September 10, 2021, 15:52:05 Just booked in to the Sun Inn, good shout all very impressed with the room & everything so far Didn't you go there last month? :sherlock: Title: Re: White Hart Post by: Posh Red on Friday, September 10, 2021, 17:47:34 Didn't you go there last month? :sherlock: No, was looking to book somewhere for a stop over this weekend as the usual place we stayed was fully booked. Thought about the White Hart, but the roadworks put paid to that. |
