Article says he’s in court on Monday further down. Presumably it’s ‘tomorrow’ as the story will be in the paper on Sunday, so Monday is ‘tomorrow.’

Guilty or not, surely he can’t continue as a manager. Sponsors, fans - especially women - will shun the club. Isn’t he already on bail for assaulting the Barnsley manager?

Makes you wonder the thought processes involved in Rovers employing him in the first place.

I totally agree he shouldn't continue as manager with two seperate court cases pending plus it's not good for the image of the club.

I presume he informed the club when he was charged on 6 June. Since then they’ve allowed him to carry on with transfer business and all things pre season related.

If it blows up in their face tomorrow there’s nobody else to blame. By backing him after the event they do appear to be condoning it.

Would have thought the correct action would be gardening leave until after the case is settled. But who would take on his duties during that period?

Innocent until proven guilty and all that, but, surely, it doesn't look good if a 'leader' of an organisation is involved in any altercation or 'drunken argument'? But, I guess, given his history, it was a known issue.

Both his brother and his cousin are murdering scumbags.

I don’t understand how people can live with the guilt that this kind of behaviour should lead to, assuming they aren’t clinically psychopaths? I wouldn’t be able to live with myself

I think the trouble with Barton is - that trouble finds him and quite often so.
Whether he always puts himself in that situation is another matter.

Barton is also essentially an intelligent thug in a suit. It could be the geographic stigma attached and predominantly working class background, that sways some people on their opinion of him. Before he even does anything.

I don't fully disagree with some peoples opinion on him though, more that I feel some would jump straight in due to his previous. What we don't actually know yet is all the detail. Obviously there was a domestic in which his wife obtained a head injury. How exactly we don't know. LAS didn't attend the scene. He could've thrown something (a hand, a fist, a plant pot, a most improved player trophy), he could've pushed her backwards and she hit her head on/knocked into something. She could've been antagonising him all night which led to an argument. Maybe they were both pissed off that their dealer hadn't delivered the goods as promised. Maybe they'd both had a bit too much powder and were both feeling very confident. It's also possible that he did indeed give her a right royal walloping with no provocation at all.

I'm not defending Barton btw, I don't know him personally but never really liked his footballing style, however he did sometimes tend to talk much more sense. This isn't some thicko but then again - wife abusers don't tend to be.

Well, a witness said he grabbed her by the throat, pushed her out into the garden and kicked her in the head.

Which at present is all it is "a witness". Obviously if a completely true statement then he should be dealt the correct punishment. Witnesses can and do say some obscure things though. LIke making a story much more bigger than it was, sometimes not even recalling much and just filling bits in. There's been a lot of work done on studying witnesses and their statements.

What we still don't know is if that is completely accurate and even then, how did this situation come about? How did (if true) Barton come to have his hand around her throat? Was he provoked? Had he just found out she had just girthed every bloke in the property? Was it purely premeditated? Did he just stand up and grab her around the throat for no reason at all?

One thing I do know though, I used to wonder why a lot of women seemingly always ended up with totally disrespectful morons. Taking the glamour and aesthetic away of "oh well I do like a bad boy" - No you don't love, not really, no one wants to spend their life in fear of some abusive cunt. I've come to the conclusion that they too are also totally disrespectful morons.

Someone probably will give Barton a good kicking but I don't think that would help. He'd more than likely thrive off it.

A friend of mine has his own charity that works with the families of those that have lost close relatives through domestic violence. How the fuck he sleeps at night is beyond me. I helped him interview for people to work for him, fuck me that was bad enough. There is a side of this world that thankfully the vast majority of us will never know and long may it stay that way.  Coercive control is massive. Ryan Giggs etc.
Some people are cunts, end of. Joey Barton is one of them.

I also occasionally deal with domestic abuse in my role in education. The kind of parent that can hurt his/her own fucking flesh and blood will almost certainly be willing to deal it out to their spouse too. Never gets remotely easier to deal with or less infuriating. I sleep well knowing I’ve done my bit to help but how the hell these domestic abusers get a wink of kip I’ll never know

victimless crime.

The police and CPS do prosecute crimes without the support of the victim. Not often but they do. If it is the public interest. This is the CPS's decision after encouragement from the police.

In a previous life, I dealt with domestic violence as a patrol officer- first on scene. It takes guts for the victim to go for it.

It is a heart wrenching thing having to tell two young kids that mum and dad aren't coming home again. She had her head caved in with a claw hammer. The coward did himself in by breathing his exhaust fumes.

For clarity. I never said they were.

Jesus wept!

I know you're well aware that the paragraph referenced above (mine that i'm quoting you from), was in isolation from the earlier parts regarding Barton. My point, that you will also be very aware of, is that a lot (that's A LOT and not ALL) of people do actually get into relationships with people who are similar to them. It's not exactly a wild assumption of human psychology.  Why do you think artificial Love Island types go for each other? Because one of them plays at the local Bridge Club and attends the British Legion each month?

I think your "Jesus wept" comment is a tad overreaction or an incredible misinterpretation of what I was saying. Might just be that you've secretly missed not being able to disagree with me of late. Haha ;) <<inferring friendly emotive tone.

Just to be clear (so it doesn't get further twisted amongst the TEFerati) "disrespectful moron" does not equate to "domestic abuser" and don't think that either.

As well as the beard, I’d say that picture on the right is at least 4-5 years old.
