Title: Outside tap electric shocks
Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, July 22, 2021, 20:06:23
All week my wife had been complaining about getting electric shocks when turning off the outside tap so I've been doing it for her. I thought it was odd that it was happening to her and not me but tonight I got a shock.

Any ideas why this might be happening? Anyone else experienced anything similar?

Probably just static electricity build up. Happens more in humid weather.

I get static shocks when opening the freezer doors in the local supermarket.  Makes me look very odd now as I prepare for the shock even if I don't get one.

I get them from the car door. I give it a quick tap with my knuckles just to get rid of the static. Perhaps it’ll work with an outside tap

But isn't static build up generally when you first touch something? It happened to me during the actual tap rotation.

Me too, usually depends on the shoes I wear. Tap a key on the inside of door panel before you get out and save your knuckles 🙂
