Title: Out of Date Beer
Post by: Sippo on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, 09:54:45
How long is it suitable to drink out of date beer?

Just been given beer BB 11/19. Should be ok.

Worst part - it's pissy fosters.

TBH I wouldn't risk it with Fosters because of the additives they put in it. If it was a real beer in a bottle then yes I would say go for it.

Worst case scenario....invite a mate round and let him sample it withut telling him, if he still sees after a can or 2 then its probably safe.

How long beer lasts depends on the type of beer and how it is stored. A standard light lager will normally last around 6 months to 2 years after the best before date if kept in the fridge and 6 – 9 months if kept in the cupboard. This is also true for a standard IPA or ale. Most beers on the market are best drunk 6 – 24 months after the best before

During a 'poker night' last year, a mate dug out some beer from somewhere when supplies were getting low and only after a few hours had passed, did we notice that the expiry date on it was March 2017... so it was approaching three years past. No one noticed any difference in taste, although we'd had a few by the time we started on them. It was 'Fosters' too. No one had any side effects.

No one had any side effects. Well you wouldn’t with Fosters would you? Sterile fizzy piss with alcohol.

I've drunk loads of out of date beer recently, left over stocks from the bar I work in, closed since 14th March last year in France, and stocks from suppliers my friend's bar uses being sold off cheap.

No shite, Heineken, Guinness, IPAs etc.  No side effects at all.

Will always depend what the beer is, if it is hoppy will naturally last longer hence the historic reason for IPA's.

Not that I'd advise it, but I was drinking five year out of date beer in China a few years ago.  To be honest everything I looked at in China (food and drink) was out of date in the shops.
