Title: Day Nine: HUN/FRA, POR/GER, ESP/POL
Post by: Nemo on Saturday, June 19, 2021, 08:18:05
Cracking line-up of fixtures today, park yourself in front of the TV for a big Sunday (and have the World Test Championship on picture in picture too).

Portugal v Germany biggest game of the tournament so far? Germans really need something, even with third place qualifying no points from two games would leave them sweatier than a man in lederhosen in central London at the moment.

Italy still the only team to look nothing but decent during both their games so far.

I don't see any goals in the Germany team at all, too many attacking midfielders & no striker

The best in the world is Ronaldo. 36 years old making runs like that... Obscene

Yep he's still got it...fantastic player  :pint:
I don't get to see any German football so have no idea if they have any decent young forwards out there.

Thankfully for the Germans, there's goals in the Portuguese team.

Spain are so boring and predictable.

They're also in a whole lot of trouble now. That third place qualification spot going to ruin a few proper surprises, but fair play if they manage to be one of only 8 teams knocked out at this stage...

it's not even remotely impossible. Poland beat Sweden. Slovakia get the draw.

I can dream

Yeah Spain are in transition at the moment. Their performance was a lot like England’s performance vs Scotland. Technically they were the better side and passed the ball around nicely without any proper penetration.

I’ve been disappointed with the quality of the football so far in the tournament. I guess it’s hard to coach and train players to play a certain way when you don’t manage the players on a weekly basis like at club football. However bang average teams can go deep in tournaments now a days - just look at Wales in euro 2016 and England in the World Cup. Get a favourable draw and have a good defence and you can go deep.

Not a new thing, Greece in 2004 springs to mind.

I guess the question is, would we take an England win playing like that, or would we prefer glorious failure playing attacking football.

The problem is we will play dull, negative football without the winning bit :(

Take the win - Over time, everyone will forget how we played and remember the performances as swashbuckling, dazzling brilliance!
