Title: Sheridan has resigned

Suitable candidates for next season?

My concern is i don't see how any positive appointment can be made with Powers situation at the moment. I suspect the next manager will be dog shit as well, until Power is out and then perhaps someone will see opportunity with joining the club.

Not sure who would take the job currently in truth.

In an ideal world you want someone to come in, make some quick assessments of players and start recruiting for next season. I just dont see how that can happen at the moment given finances etc.

Impossible to say who until we establish who owns us and what the budget is, but it needs to be someone who can connect with the fanbase and wider community, not just a jobbing manager doing a job. That doesn't have to be an ex player, Wellens managed this bit brilliantly. But that said, I'd rather see us fail under Peacock or Bodin or Mildenhall than under the next lower league regular off the merry go round.

The manager for the rest of the season will be an internal appointment......

Seems strange quitting now, especially as Power was never gonna sack him. Maybe things are going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about yet. Let’s hope he’s been paid off and new owners are announced this coming week. I can but dream.

He’s only resigned before relegation is confirmed so it isnt on his CV. Gutless.

He was only ever here treading water and stealing a living, as noted in other thread I wonder whether he has heard that April's pay check may not arrive anyway, plus as noted he doesn't have an embarrassing relegation on his cv (to the lazy eye at least).

Should have done two games ago purely just to give someone, anyone & us a fighting chance.
Despite being shit for ages - our season has hung on the last two games.

I guess ultimately Sheridan knew that and now we’ve taken zero points the last slither of a chance has gone.

meh he's gone now so that's one more chapter passed.

I don't hate him. I had what he did.

I rarely understood your selections, line ups, formations and style of play.

He sounded like he cared. he might have.

He obviously wanted to keep us up. he didn't.

I'm angry that he dismantled an OK team, a team that I believe could have stayed up. He made an OK attacking team more leaky and less attacking.

it's over now so time to draw a line and move on. all the best with your retirement JS. I can't see another team taking you on but its a merry go round for a reason.

there is an element that us fans don't understand behind the scenes but we can see everything that is coming out now with power and it must effect players and management.

Damage is already done even though im glad he'll no longer be associated with the club.

The bigger concern is what happens to the club next season. Im terrified of Power still being here as we prepare for life in League 2. Non league or worse has never felt so close for me.

Title: Re: Sheriden has resigned

I never like Sheridan as a player and don't like him as a person. He comes across as a rather nasty person. Although, many in the game seem to like him.

I don't think he is totally to blame, but, he should have jumped or been pushed a long time ago.

Many of the players are either not good enough, not fit enough or have not been trying.

I'll be quite pleased to see many of the out of contract players departing at the end of the year.

The thing is with this Dino is that there is nothing he did well.

The tactics are non existent or at least not discernable to the average human.
The team selections are bizarre and inconsistent, strikers at left wing back, wingers at right back, central midfielders everywhere apart from where they should be, poachers played as target men, playing a deep line with no pace up front, playing a high line with no pace at the back....the list goes on.

On top of that he's a bully and treats players with contempt.

Oh and he's a cunt.

We've had shit managers before but none of them come close to this clown.
Good riddance and hope you enjoy your relegation bonus.

I sent a text v Rochdale.

A blindfolded Chimp, picking players names out of a hat would of amassed more points than Sheridactyl.

Truly awful.

Going in January might of given us a chance....after the Gills defeat a glimmer. Today is just better late than never.

A poor side that leaked goals has transformed into a truly shit one in all departments.

Going through the motions now for the next few games.

What a depressing shit show.

There's plenty that could be told about him from people I have good links with at Chesterfield. Not many would believe them though.

Oh and remember...just shy of £5k to have this guy make a keynote speech and appear for an 1hr. The cunt couldn't read a speech properly even if it was written for him.

Incredibly pleased he's gone* but it's all too late now.
In fact it now looks more a move of cowardice than an honourable one.
He only cares about himself. Do not be fooled, any tears he shed tonight were not for the Town.

*I'm reserving acceptance until we get official confirmation. Knowing Town in it's current guise they won't bother. Even if the elusive Stevie Wonder (Anderson), only has to load up and log in to his electronic Brother typewriter, whilst sat at home in his coffee stained Y-fronts, to type "STFC have accepted the resignation of John Sheridan, more to follow..."

Whether or not it would be enough remains to be seen.

Wright is just Sheridan in disguise, so not much will change for the last 4.  No point in appointing a new management team because until the ownership issues are resolved, STFC effectively does not exist.  No squad for next season, no ST's, no fans - no hope.

The only way we get hope is with new ownership - simples.  The club is on the precipice.  STFC is playing out the final scenes of The Italian Job and Self Preservation Society has just fired up..

From the Irish Independent:

"John Sheridan a ‘dark horse’ in race to take reins at chaotic Dundalk

Former Ireland midfielder John Sheridan could emerge as a ‘dark horse’ for the vacant Dundalk manager’s job in the wake of his weekend resignation from Swindon Town.

Despite the fact that Sheridan was Dundalk’s nemesis after a public spat with the then Oriel Park boss Vinny Perth last year, and that Sheridan has now left three managerial posts in the space of nine months  [    ] , the chaos behind the scenes means that nothing can be ruled out.

Linfield boss David Healy is one of the names being touted but, with the Irish League title all but wrapped up, the former Northern Ireland striker is said to be unwilling to leave the Belfast outfit.

At a meeting with the players yesterday, Italian Filippo Giovagnoli, who was last season appointed as first team boss – officially “head coach” – but was then listed as “coach” by the club at the start of this season, confirmed that he was quitting with immediate effect."

He can certainly offer recent experience in managing "chaotic" clubs, whether that is good experience or not....

The one way that Sheridan could have taken a miniscule semblance of credibility out of his catastrophic managerial effort at STFC was to resign and give someone else a chance when we had it, i.e about 6 games ago. Yet he was too pig-headed and he probably thought he could beat Rovers, Rochdale and Wimbledon and propel us to staying up. Now when he realises we are beyond repair, he's walked away before he's had to take the actual official relegation on the chin.

Whilst it has to be said, he has had the unbearable loss of both his parents in quick succession and perhaps actually having to face up to being the man to take us down was too big a burden to face but the sad truth is that he was clearly not up to it and anyone could see that. Everything about it was all wrong, consistently.

It will be interesting to see what Wright and Peacock do for the remaining 4 games. The players are playing for their next contracts at new clubs now, shop window time!

Was thinking about this last night - don't expect to see massive changes for the game tomorrow as we can technically still avoid relegation, but once it's confirmed (approx 2 mins in at a guess), you'd hope they'll take the chance to give Harry Parsons and some of the fringe players a bit of a run-out in the remaining games.

But who are the 'fringe lads'? Apart from Parsons who we know about, is there anyone in the youth team who are even anywhere near getting towards the first team squad? The exciting prospects usually bugger off to a premiership team at 14/15/16 and the remaining ones are not good enough and end up in the Wiltshire non-league scene.

Technically, Taylor Curran is a fringe player, titter.

Absolutely.

From what I have seen of them we could do way worse than putting either Chris Francis or Harrison Minturn at CB at least they would try and the young lad George Cowmeadow seems talented too.

Has there been any announcement about youth players graduating (is that the word?) onto pro contracts? Someone completely unrelated to the football club told me that only one player was being kept on and everyone else released, they made it sound like it was highly unusual (though I accept it might not be).

He sounds like he should be decent. Reckon he could 'boss' midfield. (no idea if that's where he plays)

Could go on to be worth Billions.

(Sorry)

I was actually thinking sopranos but of course he is in that! (and we are binging it at the moment so I'm the egg here)

Technically, Taylor Curran is a fringe minge player, titter.
Changed it for you

What was Lee Peacock’s role at the club before getting the poisoned chalice with Jock?

Academy Coach of Heads.

Back to the lad Giametti, he sounds like he should have his own early evening Radio show. Bit like Paul Gambaccini but yes the Paul Giamatti reference is even better.

Cracking actor is Giamatti though! Loved him in Cinderella Man and always think he's better as a support than a lead.

Giamatti definitely acts with his eyes and I think he is one of the best actors to use his "eyes" almost naturally. He could have no lines and he would be able to tell you the characters story.
