Did a guest spot on a mates pod the other night, although was a bit smashed, so no it's not easy.

Lot's of podding talent about the forums at the mo.

We like to record as if we were airing live (of course it gets edited a little) as the intention is to aim towards live broadcasts. More of a portfolio project to start and see where it goes.

We have some talented guests lined up from musicians and poets to a Palme d'Or short film nominated Director, Hollywood actor (if he's available *snorts*) and several others.

Along with influential working people that aren't famous or have 500k Insta followers.

All good fun :)

I listened to the podcast on whether we should like stuff done by 'bad eggs' and people convicted of bad things etc.

If I could offer one observation, thought that it was a bit long, even listening at 1.4x speed.

Didn't have much to say as I don't really produce anything creative, however Ive filled it in for you.  Im sure it's of no use whatsoever.

I don't really make or produce anything that can be stolen so, unusually, I don't think that I can add anything of any substance.

Keep the podcast to an hour is something you can take from me, if you so wish.

I did the survey. I've never had anything stolen creatively as most things I create are garbage but I've known other artists that have been plagiarised and it's pretty frustrating.

A good recent example of this in the alternative music world was a Canadian duet completely ripping off a band called Loathe. Youtube video about it here https://youtu.be/NqT3mKZR1zM

This stuff bothers me. There's being inspired by an artist (Loathe are clearly big fans of Deftones, for example) and just blatant plagiarism.

Nice case study there with Loathe & Softcult. Damn, I thought Robin Thicke & Pharrell took the piss a little with Blurred Lines, when pinching the beat off Marvin Gaye but this is another level.

Yeah there is definitely Deftones vibes from Loathe but Softcult have gone full rip. That definitely didn't happen by accident!

Whilst we don't cover music so much (we let things flow as organically as we can and see where it takes us) in this latest pod, we obviously approach different questions, thoughts and opinions as we discuss when people steal others creative works. But in essence, this is really part of what we're trying to do; get others exploring and discussing different topics into areas that they might not initially do or think of. If we have just one person end up discovering something of interest via it then we've done our job.

Milo (my co-host) and I bounce off one another fairly well. There's still plenty to learn on my part but it's just good to take on something new aside from any other stuff. Hope you get a chance to listen (or view) when it airs on Friday evening.

I’ve written some articles about boxing in the past that have always been credited to me properly so no experience of being ripped off there. I did notice a poster I made a couple of years ago had been used by another pub (after being ever so slightly adapted) without my permission the last time pubs were allowed to open. It was a Swindon pub so I probably could and should have approached them about it and asked for my credit, but I wasn’t quite bothered enough about it at the time. If it happens again though I’ll remember this thread and talk to them.

As mildly miffed as I was when I first saw the adapted poster, I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to have something much more creative like music/visual art etc where somebody has actually lost some of their livelihood. Must feel like a real violation

Yeah this is a very big issue in the screenwriting world. Works adapted slightly and big studios having way more "fist" to fight with. I think you have to take it as a form of honour and also hope someone with equally big "fists" can fight for you to be paid/recognised/credited etc. As there is no doubt it would continually piss you off. We discuss this and more on the pod.

To be honest, I have posted a pic or two of myself on here previously. I tend to just think of everyone on here looking like their avatar (where possible), except for the odd one or two that I do know irl but that's only a handful at a stretch.

No problem JQ. We aren't up to the audio/visual standard we want at the moment but that's because we're recording over Zoom at present. Sometimes a lil bit of latency drops in.

My co-host edits and it isn't fair to have him go through everything with a fine tooth comb as editing and post takes long enough as it is. I source the guests, research them and areas of the topic then I do a pre-recording brief with the guests so they know what to expect on the day. Everyone has their own things that they are comfortable with and our guests are priority in that sense.

In future episodes and once more restrictions have lifted then we'll be recording in a studio space. That way we can work on bringing our guests in to record, use 4 channel and mid-side mic (which means we have even more control over background or ambient sound volumes), as well as shooting the whole thing on either a Black Magic or a Lumix GH5 (or something).

There's E1 on there already too (Separating Art) and E3 (Changing Your Name) goes out on April 2nd. From what we've heard and discussed, we're not going to get overly conscious of the final edit time. It really depends on the content discussed and with having guests on performing then that adds to the show time fairly organically. Having said that though, we'll make most of them inside 1hr30mins. Actual recording time can be longer but we're trying to gear everything towards a live show. It's not really a podcast more a slot on a radio show really - just we're only at the pre-recorded stage. On top of that we both have our individual schedules so finding a balance is important too :)

Keep up the great work as it's very enjoyable to watch and really good quality content even without being in a professional studio.
