Title: Accrington S vs STFC MOM
Post by: Red Frog on Saturday, March 6, 2021, 17:02:36
Feels like cheating to pick someone on the basis of 45 minutes' performance. Again.

Pigeon-fancying would have been a better-spent afternoon.  :crash:

Twine would have got my vote if he had scored. Too many misplaced passes from Scott as well as many others sadly.

Twine, honourable mention to Iandolo who I don't rate as a defender but did well.

The Accrington commentary team were quite good too. Not often you get Ronny Rosenthal, inspector gadget and pigeon milking in local comms

Twine for the first half. Would defend his second half a bit in that he kept on trying to make things happen, even when they went wrong. A lot of the others were just completely anonymous.

Not one of them today - all 4/10.

I thought the  commentator did well.  He gets my vote

Normally there is often an opposition player who also catches the eye but in this game anonymity prevailed.

Odimayo was the best of a bad bunch. I thought he did his job OK.

Twine had 5 moments in the game:
- 2 x free kicks
- 1 x volley
- Once he was fouled when the Accrington player should have been sent off
- 1 chance in the box in the second half
His passing was off today. His corners were poor. He faded from the game.

Pitman. Only one to do his job. Twine was part of the set piece horror show so misses out despite being bright.

Dunno. I do wonder why we signed him on a perm though.

Not really seen much of him to be fair

Trueman 6
Didn’t have anything to do. Didn’t do much to help his defence as seemed rooted to his line in the second half. A few shots fizzed by him, but weren’t on target. Not sure whether he had them all covered, including the one that rattled the crossbar. But, don’t think he could have done much more with the two goals.

Odimayo 6.5
Thought he played well in the first half and his through ball for Pitman was awesome. Seemed to fade out of the game in the second half. Not troubled at the back but didn’t create anything coming forward.

Broadbent 6
Mix up with Conroy for the first. Couple of last ditch challenges before the second. Tried to play up front at the end.

Conroy 5
Struggled with Charles’s pace. Thought he was lucky not to give a penalty away in the first half. He seems to be getting slower – Or he was playing against some speedy attackers today.

Grounds N/A
Too early to rate him before he went off

Payne 5
Ran around lots in the first half. Anonymous in the second apart from bloody awful corners!

Lyden 6
Dour defensive midfield performance. I think that was his role though. Can’t say anything bad or anything good to be honest.

Iandolo 5
Tried. But didn’t offer much more than Thompson going forward and less when defending. Was knackered towards the end, which is understandable.

Twine 6.
Two good freekicks and a volley from outside of the area in the first half. Faded in the second half, when he had one chance that he squandered. Passing was hit and miss and his corner delivery was poor.

Hope 5
Ran around and harried. Did nothing with the ball. Fouled defenders when the ball was hoofed to him. Think I remember seeing him in the area with the ball once.

Pitman 6
Good goal. Well taken. Battled hard. Tried to bring others into the game. Noone to bring into the game in the second half! No service. 100% success rate when given a chance.

Subs:
Garrick 5
Two runs down the wing

Omatoye 3
I think I saw him touch it once. He didn’t run about as much as Hope and made less of an impression than Hope!

Hunt 4
Not an improvement on Iandolo.

Missilou 4
I’m sorry, I see a poor L2 player here.

Twine, just. He'd do well in very well organised and technical side. Bloody woodwork again.

B,B,BP,BP,BP (aka PPP) gets a special mention for doing what he's paid to do.

I see Sheridan was shady when questioned on the subs bench scuffle. I think we may see a question posed soon regarding "tactical shape"  :hmmm:

Pitman for me, had one of Twines efforts gone in then maybe him, but Pitman led the line very well and scored a breauty.

Must be his mum.  Someone did it last week too.

Not sure personally that he's been given much of a crack yet.

Twine for me with mentions for Odi and Pitman.

As an aside, I'd like to join the cool kids.  Can someone let me in on what the Brett Brett, Brett, Brett, Brett Pitman, Brett Pitman stuff is about?

Its from when Sheridan was berating the players from the touchline the other.

He shouted ‘BRETT, BRETT, BRETT PITMAN, WHERE ARE YOU’

I voted Twine because imo there was nobody else to vote for.  I get the arguement for Pitman as he was the only one that did his job, but let's face it, he did it once and did it right.  Twine did his job at least 3 times in the first half and was a crossbar, finger tip and knats bollock away from doing it right.

I don't believe that somebody should get MOTM for doing their job once in 90 mins, i would rather give it to a player that has tried numerous times and come close/failed. Giving MOTM for somebody that did well for 1 min out of 90 with one touch doesn't sit right.

Is there a reason that link appears to be to Twitter in Bulgarian, Mr T?

I'd erased that evening from my memory bank.

Samdi has deep mined a thread of gold.

One day, when we hit the heights of League One playoffs again, we'll look back on that night of the journey with warm, fuzzy nostalgia
