Power on bbc wilts at 6pm to take questions

Title: Re: BBC wilts

Taking screened questions I should think.

I'll have a go at getting on.

Send us something in Audrey.

So far we've got questions to ask about Fanzai (and it's effectiveness), the club's media policy, the club's transfer policy and signings ahead of the transfer window closing.

What method is best?

Tweet @bbcwiltssport is best or text 81333 and start your message with the word Wiltshire. Would you be happy to come on and speak to the chairman?

Title: Re: BBC wilts
Post by: Skinny Pete on Monday, August 24, 2015, 11:19:32
Sure. Would you/he need to know my question beforehand?

Title: Re: BBC wilts
Post by: willwalder on Monday, August 24, 2015, 11:25:56
Ideally yes.

As it stands, we have been sent questions about Fanzai, media policy and transfer policy but nobody is able to come on to put their questions directly to the chairman - those topics are still up for grabs when it comes to speaking to him directly.

From our point of view, the more fans who are available to talk to the chairman, the better.

We've already asked the chairman about his favourite cheese, so we don't really want to go over old ground there though ;)

I'm going for 18.14 for the Miles question incidentally, I think it will be pushed up the agenda by his cameo on Saturday

Insightful question that we still haven't had satisfactorily answered from the last phone in.

Regarding talking to LP directly, sure thing let me know how to submit my question and how/when to contact the programme.

Our supporters do worry me and questions like this just make me cringe:

@richmumford: @BBCWiltsSport Sorry but what happens when luck with spotting talent runs out and odd amazing loan player stop :-(

@richmumford: @BBCWiltsSport seems the loan players are very much used to help paint over cracks. Ie Take Turnbull and keeper out

I do often wonrder if some of our supporters actually understand the basics of football and that any signing needs an element of luck. Seems to be missing the point of loan players just slightly... Worryingly he's a financial adviser!

He may mean its riskier to bring in untried youngsters (than more established players) I guess.

He's just ignored that given (we are told) we can't afford established players there isn't much choice.

Actually, I think that was your point. Erm, yeah, I agree.

Title: Re: BBC wilts

I expect that most league clubs would like to pick up young talent as we do to a degree. The difference is that we're good at it.

Any signing is a risk. I mean 'established' players like Prutton and Harley were just such a success. Some of our fans just don't seem to grasp the basics of football.

No doubt there are risks either way. And I'm not against the way we are doing things at all.

But there is a case to make in that, how many teams get promoted using our method? Most spend to bring in quality/experience. Some don't work out, but on balance to me it seems most who go up have spent.

Of course we could be the first to do so using our method. Yeovil have already done so on a low budget.

And the spending option isn't currently available to us - this is what needs to sink in across the fan base IMO.

It's exactly this. You look on Twitter and you get the same old idiots banging on that Power is stealing money and saying we should be spending the '£4 million' from the Luongo and Gladwin sale on players. They seem oblivious to the 2014 loss, or the training ground purchase or the 60% salary cap. It's embarrassing how much they moan about Power based more on their ignorance rather than anything he has done. That's why I can't listen to these phone ins or the texts after games as people just make a fool of themselves!

Title: Re: BBC wilts

That'll teach that tosspot chairman of theirs

Serious question PPA: why do you say this? I've known John Fry since semi-pro days. Runs a tight ship, won't put up with money- grabbing agents or players to the extent he'd rather they'd leave than upset the business model (Eg Paddy Madden after his one good season).

Got Yeovil to the Champ. with a budget up to 15 times smaller than some clubs in the 3rd Div, debt-free as far as I know and with no support from the local politicians ref plans to expand the income stream of the club.

Anything but a tosspot I'd say.

When Yeovil got promoted to the Championship there was a vote of the 24 clubs in that league about whether a fairer allocation of the money the FL received should given to L1 and L2 clubs. Fry voted against - which now, of course, has come back to bite him in the arse.
