Their playing budget must be fairly high ( despite the fair play rules ) and they must be running at a fair loss
I suppose purchase of the new land for proposed stadium could be in that but still...

Don't think it's gone into players who will have much of a resale value.

But, again, the building of a new stadium will probably give them the impetus they need.

STFC gets criticised for over spending (although our debts were all but written off), yet Brentford are doing so on a considerably larger scale and nobody bats an eyelid.

'Muff as well. Really gets my goat when the club gets accused of spending too much money by both Brentford and Bournemouth fans. Cunts.

Annoyed me when they kept talking about how much money we'd spent whilst saying Bornemouth/Brentford were great teams on the Football League show last year.

I bet they spent just as much last season as well.

Especially when we are bigger than both.

I was snooping around a while ago to see how our budget compared with others in the league and I'm quite sure that Brentford were making no attempts to wind it in at all.

I reckon their wage budget is around a similar figure to ours last season. Probably about 4 million. Their crowds are lower than ours were last season as well. Its easy to see that they are being bankrolled. The difference between then and Bournemouth and us under Black etc is that their owners are in it for the long haul and wont be making a quick exit anytime soon.

Muff's chairman is charging interest on his loans to the club, which is ominous.

He's not in it because he's a fan as Brentford's chairman appears to be. Brentford's chairman may well write off all debt when it comes time for him to leave but I think it'll surely all end in tears at Bournemouth.

We can but hope.  Long been a bugbear of mine as well.  That charade that went down last year when Black pulled out with the outpouring of disgust got on my tits when you could just look at the squad list of muff and work out that the figures weren't adding up in terms of wage caps.

But thats just football I suppose.  There will always be some rich bloke willing to pump money in to buy there way up the leagues.  Happens at every level.  You can look at the southern league premier every year and say - oh well Hemel Hempstead (for example) are going to win it this year.

Ill be honest, I wish we had Brentford's chairman*. Don't see a problem with overspending if someone bankrolls it.

Im not so sure with Bournemouth. Their owners have history with doing very well with a few clubs abroad (they took a German lower league team to the Bundesliga and made a profit in the long run). I think they will hope for the same here. Spend money then make it back via the tv money and the stupid payments you get for getting relegated from the PL.

I think it goes back to the signing of Ritchie (on the cheap) and a couple of their fans coming on here giving it large because they had taken advantage of us when we were in a bad place.

and I saw both his goals for us ..........and the vast majority of games he was fucking useless in, sometimes he was just useless. He'd fit in well in today's team.

He was on a par with that ginger nutted fucker we paid £150,000 for from Hull( ?) whose name evades me at the moment.

Is that Roy Greenwood you're thinking of? We paid a lot for him, can't remember who we signed him from though? Or if he was ginger (i was young at the time)

I'm here, can't think of anyone from Hull. Maybe you're thinking of Glenn Cockerill, who we got from Lincoln...or the daddy David Peach, who we got from Soton.

Seems like he made his name for Hull before we bought him from Derby where he set Wiltshire alight with something like 6 goals in 60 appearances

Greenwood was indeed shite....and was a bearded ginger. can't remember us paying a fee for him. He was Chic Bates understudy and Chico was in pretty good nick. The master of the front post flick.

 Yeah we got Roy from Derby, and I don't recall the fee being that big.

Roy did have a decent spell for us back end of 1980, going into 81, which I remember fondly. That was the season we started off with 5 defeats leading to Bob Smith getting sacked and John Trollope taking over, we were in deep shit, but started to turn it around by stuffing Hull 3-1 in the Rideout debut game, then Roy scored in the next 3 out if 4 home games when we beat Walsall 3-1, Plymuff 3-0,  and Reading 3-1 we also won 2-0 at Newport in a remarkable Boxing Day fixture, when Andy Rowland had to go in goal, because Jimmy Allan got injured early doors, and Animal Williams had to do the old school thing of just standing out on the wing as he was injured and we'd used our sub. WE also beat Sheff U  5-2 and won 2-0 at Udders soon after, but that was as good as it got for Roy and he lost his place to Rideout as we just about stayed up on the final day.

Definitely shite the following season mind...

Even if it was, we've got plenty of real grudges without scraping the barrel. This just seems a bit tinpot really. Players move on all the time, we quite often end up selling good players out of economic necessity. That's what supporting a lower league football team is like.
