Title: Favourite crisps
Post by: 4D on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 16:31:32
Seeing as a lot of threads on here lately are all of a similar vein......

Cheese puffs.

From the past - discos, smiths square crisps (salt and vinegar), space raiders (pickled onion)

I'm not a big eater of crisps mind!

They are the best thing ever invented - FACT!

For me its Sensations Caramelised Onion & Balsamic Vinegar.

But I'm no crisp snob, I'm just as happy with a grab bag of Walkers S & V, C & O and to a lesser degree, ready salted.

McCoys Mexican Chilli are also ace.

Edit: I'd forgotten Doritos (cheese) - with a Salsa dip........aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhhhh........ 8)

There is only one company here that manufactures salt & vinegar crisps and it's difficult to find them for sale anywhere. They don't taste quite right either.

My favourite are the Red Leicester and Onion.....closely followed by Cracked pepper.

I remember the puffs that arriba is on about...had a kind of greasy oily taste.

Saying that i remember the days you only got plain....which came with an optional satchet of salt in a little blue packet inside the bag of crisps.

Hmmmm.

Someone used to do a ham and mustard (brannigans?), they were nice.
Marmite crisps.
Any McCoys or kettle chips.
I think Pringles are laced with crack cocaine. They aren't my favourite, bloody moreish though.

Brannigans still do beef and mustard crisps which are the best crisps around.

Yup, and I also remember the news report asking someone who had eaten a real hedgehog if the taste was authentic.

Actually, It ust have been this:
Quote
Bizarrely, a settlement was finally reached when Mr Lewis, of Hedgehog Foods, interviewed gypsies who actually did eat baked hedgehogs, to ascertain the flavour of hedgehogs. Mr Lewis then commissioned a flavourings firm to duplicate the flavour as closely as possible and changed the labels from "hedgehog flavoured" to "hedgehog flavour" and all interests were satisfied!

Beef flavour Puffs were amazing. They were banned from Oli Tompkins school as they kept being trodden into the carpet. I would love a bag of them again.

Aside from all the usual ones, my 'blast from the past' shout goes to cheeseburger quarterbacks... amazing, and very much in your space raider style (ie. Cheap, puffed wheat)

And on that bombshell I'll raise you a packet of hula hoops for walkers potato puffs. They were something like two pennies or a tanner for a pack when I was in mount ford Manor junior school back in the 60's.

I really liked those American hamburger crisps walkers released for the World Cup. They literally tasted like each one was a hamburger, was kinda weird.

I know that sounds like a stupid statement, but crisps can sometimes fail to live up to taste expectations.
