Apologise or get out

PAOLO Di Canio has threatened to axe Wes Foderingham if the Town goalkeeper does not openly apologise for what his manager viewed as arrogance and ignorance during the 4-1 defeat at Preston.

I think PDC is right Wes should apologies, the way he stormed off not even shaking Bedwell's hand and then kicking a bottle. Reminded me of a 5 year old throwing a paddy

It was petulant and immature, yes Wes was very upset about being subbed but did not behave in a professional manner when he left the field kicking the bottle onto the pitch and storming off down the tunnel.

..... or more to the point, what he said to the press. The ultimatum was very foolish and could leave us without a senior keeper.

Doesn't absolve Wes of responsibility though. From what I've heard Wes was acting a cock even before he was subbed.

Wes will bugger off now and we will be left with an 18 year old goalkeeper....fan fucking tastic. But DiCanio is untouchable......wot.....? :hmmm:

It's something we have to accept. Personally, I can handle PDC's no-nonsense approach. It's the washing of dirty linen in public that I find difficult to take. They were just having a big laugh about it on Sky News. Trouble is PDC is starting to become a parody of himself. He can be fairly unprofessional himself in all honesty.

Still, he is what he is. In sickness and in health and all that.

They both went ott. I'm hoping this has now been sorted behind closed doors and hands shook-agreed to move on.
The danger with individual player bust ups is that they can spread to others. Eventually that will happen here if Di canio continues to slate players and have bust ups with them. They can't all be shipped out and him then going hands held out to the chairman for replacements.

Yeah he's backed himself into a corner with that one.

I don't care that he's taken Fods off, he's perfectly entitled to. As I said over on FF and on Twitter and on here actually, they should all take a leaf out of Connell's book.

Absolutely right on both points. What Di Canio said was probably correct and Foderingham probably did need taking down a peg or two. But in private. Not even in front of the rest of the team, much less the whole world.

He's pretty much backed Foderingham into a corner that almost forces him out. And pretty much publicly ripped up the contract of one of our most valuable playing assets because that interview's constructive dismissal with spades on.

Foderingham's agent must have spent last night pissing himself with laughter while he rang round every Championship manager offering them one of the best keepers in the League on a free for "only a small consideration for the agent"

I worry a little about the potential divide that this could cause in the dressing room. We all know what happened when DW 'lost' the dressing room.

I don't think that has happened here yet, but there is certainly a strong chance that it could unfortunately.

He did it on the radio he was asked a question he answered it honestly he never kicked a bottle and stormed off after Wes which he could have he let it go. Is he not allowed to speak the truth can he not air his feelings? He is the voice of our team he speaks for the fans(obviously not all of us)

And what are they if they think the manager is immune from any sort of control...? or is that ok. You can`t go off on one every time you lose a game or if someone makes a mistake. Wes is 20 / 21 years old and has without question been a part of our success - he is the guy making the saves after all.

There's speaking the truth and there's having a self-indulgent tantrum. It was toe-curlingly embarrassing, grossly unprofessional and has almost certainly (again) cost the club hundreds of thousands in trashing the value of one of our most valuable playing assets.

Wes has just trashed the whole club by how he acted most fans probably think all our players are like this. If wes would have took it on the chin di canio would of never of had a "Tantrum" if Di Canio would have refused to give an interview people would cry about that. By the way are you not used to him doing this by now? and if not why listen to him?

And the part about trashing the value of wes well he has had a hand in this by throwing his own tantrum

I blame the football league for this, if they'd given us a saturday fixture against anyone else or even the town/city/shithole (*delete as apporiate) for having that trade guild thingy meaning the match couldn't take place on saturday then it wouldn't have caused any problems and we'd all happy as larry right. posting on the trival happy thread.

Foderingham behaved unprofessionally, no two ways about it. I expect better from any half-competent manager, both in terms of behaving as an adult, never mind a professional, and in terms of man management.

Di Canio is behaving like a self-indulgent spoiled teenager and it is costing the club hundreds of thousands. So long as that is balanced with largely upward results, he'll get away with it. Once he hits a wobble though, he's leaving himself nowhere to go. I wonder if that's at least in part deliberate - burning the bridges behind him as a way of trying to force himself to succeed?

Interesting points made here.

Makes you come down with an almighty bump alright.
Very sad to witness that yesterday after clocking up more miles and cost.

Damage limitation is I can get over a loss more than losing a quality keeper.
I wish these issues were kept in the dressing room as they just back people into difficult corners.
Players, Manager and Board.

To put another spin on the whole saga I see Caddis was MOM Saturday no surprises and a great player as is Fodds.
Please, please, please not another player casulty this early in the season.

So in different ways, they're both to blame for the fuckfest the club is now embroiled in.  Until both parties recognise this - and both parties apologise for their part in it - we'll get a Mexican stand off, nothing will get resolved, and Wes will be gone.  Just like Caddis.

We've seen this before.  Unless someone gets them in a room - and Jeremy Wray is probably the only person who can do that - bangs some heads together and gets a genuine apology from both sides, then I'm not optimistic.

And one final thing.  Who benefits from all of this being trailed on live radio?

The players?  No.
The manager?  No.  (Media thinks he's a figure of fun at the moment.)
The fans?  No.  (One thing we all seem to be united on is that these conversations would be so much more productive and motivational if they happened in private.)
The club?  No.

I'm struggling here.  Actually, no I'm not.

The opposition?  Yes.
Any of our regular detractors (Oxford etc.) or anyone who fancies having a pop at STFC?  Yes.

If there is one lesson learned from this, please let it be that PDC should not have sole discretion about what gets said to the media.  He needs support and advice in this area.

By kicking a water bottle. Really? I don't think so.

The sad thing was that he didn't even connect with that very well!

It was blindingly obvious fro the 1st goal that something wasn't right in the back 5 as they played like they barely knew each other and were just arguing all the time, I do wonder if there is more than meets the eye to this. Don't get me started on Navarro who seemed to spend the first 20 mins berating everyone around him!

This whole case seems to illustrate the paradox of modern football and perceived player power, everyone moans that they have too much power, then if they are substituted 20 mins in they have been disrespected.

I was thinking about this yesterday.  He's a talented Manager - but not the finished article and he does need a mentor.  If PDC does not have someone there who he respects and can look him in the eye and tell him 'I think you got that one wrong', then we have to change that.  Piccareta, maybe?  Or Jeremy Wray.  (Not that a Chairman should have to be getting his hands dirty with problems like this.)

We will know the outcome of this much sooner than the pdc V caddis situation. We cant go through the league with Bedwell and no stand in for the next three games like we did with the caddis. PDC's own ambitions will be at risk if this is dragged out. If an emergency keeper comes in then Wes is off. Watched the you tube vid of the skysports news coverage and by christ did Wes look fuming.

I do kind of feel a bit for Wes on this front though. It's about as humilating as it gets for a keeper to be subbed early like that. However that doesn't excuse his reaction when coming off as mentioned above.

Both Wes and Paolo are clearly talented and proud people who made errors of judgment in the way they reacted to failure yesterday. However they are in my opinion both crucial components of any success we might have this season, and for that reason I hope they can sack up and sort this out quickly. That is clearly what is in the best interests of the club, which should come above even their individual professional pride.

I was having a chat with Nick Bamosomi during the game yesterday and were talking about something similar.

What I feel is that maybe Paolo needs an experienced assistant to aid him, one who has got the people management skills that Paolo can learn from (I know nothing about Fabrizio Piccareta but he does seem like he is a bit of a Paolo yes man).

Someone that when he sees Paolo about to do something like he did yesterday to say to him "hold on a sec" this may not be the best choice you have ever done" shall we talk about it and reassess this at half time in the dressing room.

The voice of reason that sometimes Paolo has missing but one that maybe he can learn from, a bit like John Gorman.

I can't see PDC accepting the humiliation of an advisor - nobody tells Paolo di Canio how to behave. Paolo di Canio has got on very well being Paolo di Canio. Paolo di Canio wants assistants, players, captains, chairman who just do what Paolo di Canio says - he said as much when he gave McCormack the armband. Paolo doesn't negotiate. You follow or you fall. Paolo di Canio goes onward.

Rash decision to substitute Wes after 20 minutes, he should've given it until half-time, then have a chat with him, a bollocking if need be. But to haul him off after 20 minutes was unnecessary in my opinion, I can understand why Wes was fuming, it must've been humiliating.

I agree with this but equally what was he supposed to do - the way they were playing we could have been 4 or 5 down by half time if he didnt make a change as they were like bloody strangers at the back. Not saying it was right to take Wes off but something had to change and why should it be any differenmt to taking an outfield player off.

The next clip shown was Di Canio being substitued and reacting in an extremely similar manner to Wes to which the comment 'maybe he needs to practice what he preaches' was made by one of the presenters.

Title: Re: Adver News: Apologise or get out

Spot on as usual, Ardiles.

But a goalkeeper is not above being dropped if he makes a mistake (or series of).

Not disputing that at all. However it isn't the same as subbing an outfield player, Keepers do get a bit more leeway in terms of getting subbed in a game. All good keepers have the odd howler, but in the 19-odd years I've been watching football very rarely do top keepers get brought off because of it.

Basically I'm not saying it wasn't within Paolo's rights to make the change, but I can understand why Foderingham would have been annoyed, embarrassed, etc for it to happen.

I was ready to side with PDC yesterday but his rant over Foderingham today is hard to defend, he can't keep doing this everytime there's a problem as we'll quickly run out of players at the rate he's going.

Quote
PAOLO Di Canio is looking forward to Wednesday night’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy first round encounter at Oxford United, with Wes Foderingham available for selection following an apology on Monday.

Town head to local rivals Oxford United on Wednesday evening and speaking on Monday lunchtime, the manager confirmed Foderingham will be a part of his squad to face The U’s.

“Wes has apologised. The situation is now clear and we will move on and work together. He is a genuine guy and a strong character.

“The rules are there and he will pay his price for his actions. He has been fantastic for us last and this season, but he didn’t behave well on Sunday.

“He will have his chance to be a part of the team and be available for selection against Oxford on Wednesday night.”

Hopefully we can all move on now.

The Thai pizza companies have for some inexplicable reason changed their dough. Their thin and crispy crusts are no longer thin and crispy. Imagine the disappointment should you find yourself craving for a thin and crispy crust pizza in Thailand at some point in the future.

To be honest if he can't take any criticism from fans after making a crazy decision he isn't going to last long as a manager.
The bloke has done wonders since he's been here, but he can't expect every fan to back his every move.
Its part of footballl, the players get moaned at, the board get moaned at, the ref gets moaned at and so does the manager.

Well, what did you mean?

I meant a lot of posters on here have fanned the flames. We lost; Wes got sulky when subbed; PdC was unprofessional when interviewed straight after the game and said some things that, whilst he may felt them, should have been said behind closed doors. That's it, isn't it? Instead, we've had people coming up with large amounts of shite and stirring it gleefully.
di Canio's going, Foderingham's going, people are going to stay away, we're a laughing stock, other players will want away, Paolo's a disgrace, etc, etc, etc.
Discussion is great, over reaction is boring and becoming all too common. (This is obviously just my opinion).

Get a win against the filth and all will be forgiven, as far as i'm concerned everything was sorted when Wes and PDC sorted themselves out. The problem with getting to a cup final and winning a league is that the expectation levels rise. But if you read some of the comments on thisis you'd think we were going bust or fighting relegation.

Having watched it I don't see the problem, he is a passionate manager, something we aren't used to having at Swindon.

He is basically saying he wants the fans to trust his decisions as he is the manager, it does not at all state that he is going to leave, yet again people twisting his words to suit their own ends I think.

Apologies, I read it as you were saying anyone not backing PDc were fanning the flames that would make him quit.

Yes there have been some OTT reactions, I've probably been guilty of that.

The important thing here is Wes and PDC have called a truce. Now we can move on. Not sure what PDC was hoping to achieve by making the alleged 'go support Oxford' remark though.  Best ignored I think.

Wahay, hello Paul. Sorry if I don't debate PdC with you, you're not exactly neutral with regard to him, are you?
As to his comments, how many on here regularly slate some of our fans for their comments on the phone in, or thisis, or twitter, or the facebook page? We have a percentage of fans who are total dicks and we all know it. Get a grip people FFS.

Then what does he mean by saying

'They will sooner, probably sooner, or later have a new manager'
That is a statement that if the fans don't back the manager then he will leave, simple.

This happens with EVERY manager in their career, the fans turn on them and they leave or get sacked.

This is what he is insinuating, that if the fans don't back Paolo then he could leave. The thing is the doubters will ALWAYS shout louder than the backers when something happens.

The same can apply to every single manager who has ever managed.

Or is it that I just don't sensationalize things he says and try and read into them the positives instead of the negatives all the time? maybe I am wrong, if I am then so be it.

Oh for fucks sake.......

We have some very sensitive souls on here. People should stop reading every line of every PdC interview and dissect it for meaning. He's extremely passionate and allows that passion to run away with him sometimes especially when dealing with the media. This isn't something new, he's been like that since his very first press conference and so we should be used to it by now. I didn't take it literally when he said we were like Barcelona and I don't take him literally now. Chill.

He hasn't sold JAF for peanuts? Oh and he's funny, passionate and has the team playing the best style of football I've seen at the CG since Hoddle. Everything must be taken in context. How many people moaned about a lack of passion from Paul Hart??! And now we're moaning about a manager who's possibly too passionate?

TBH I am loving watching STFC these days, never a dull moment. Beats the hell out of only a couple of seasons ago where our players lost and barely appeared to be trying and then having to listen to that idiot Hart explain why our players couldn't even be bothered to try their hardest?

I'd rather have a passionate Italian lunatic in charge, than return to that!  :smugfu:

Just in case some of those who need a reminder...

You are missing the point though. No one is questioning his results.

We are questioning his tenure because most of the time he's a fucking cock.

You will probably counter this with something along the lines of "Do I want to us to lose every week so long as a nice bloke is in charge?"

Well, no, I just don't like the idea of the club being managed by a lunatic, racist sociopath who is hell-bent on falling out with anyone who has an opinion not identical to his. Plenty of capable managers who aren't fuckwits out there.

Something about the fans being upset because they'd had too much chocolate? Who knows. Just seen his interview from today on the OS, more level headed and quite amusing. Says Wes has to be fined - can't just make do with apology - otherwise next time he subbed Ritchie, MR would 'shoot at me with a gun' and then just say sorry.

Nobody is knocking him as a superb football manager, or his passion, or his general 'appeal' but he just never seems to know when to stay schtum.

He had absolutely no need to mention the fans at all, let alone telling a section of them to go and watch Oxford.

If any of his players never learnt their lesson after one mistake we know what that would mean.

And they are still repeating the whole episode ad infinitum on SSN

Of course not, but it's pretty hard to discount your stance on him, isn't it?

If that's aimed at me, I was "back" well before this weekend. But more than happy to fuck off again if non-hero worshipping isn't acceptable.

I actually agree with most of the rest of what you said FWIW. And said something similar yesterday
If the cap fits ;) what i meant was here and on the comments you know that as soon as something goes wrong people are on it like a rash, they thrive off it. No hero worshipping from me i have already said i think what he did yesterday was wrong but if after over a year people are still shocked by this from him and boo his substitutions then what he said after he is right, they are better off fucking off

I don't think anyone has come out of this well, all could have handled it better.  I especially expect a 44 year old man to have more control over his emotions...however, as some have said you take the rough with the smooth with di Canio.  For all the success, there is a price to pay.

Now that Foderingham has apologised, we should move on, but di Canio should be careful about making 'go and watch Oxford' comments, it's not good to be in the same company as Rikki Hunt and Steve McMahon.

No, I think the issue is you, by your own admission, have chosen not to post for months on PDC but then when the wheels look like falling off you're there posting on PDC, taking an as and when it suits attitude.

Going by the admittedly miked up radio commentary there would only have been 200 left in Preston.

It happened last season with Connell and it will happen next time he does the same thing. I guarantee you'll be hard pushed to find a set of fans in the football leagues that wouldn't react the same way.

Except Spurs fans, they a patient and never boo anyone.

I kept quiet throughout the Caddis fiasco and FWIW I don't think the wheels look like falling off now either. I just had a bit of an "Oh FFS" thing yesterday and let myself get dragged in. Please accept my apologies, it won't happen again.

As for the "as and when it suits attitude" I hadn't realised there was a quota we had to maintain

Everyone is full of apologies today aren't they.

There is no quota so don't worry about your perceived ignorance of that. I look forward to your future views on PDC in the forthcoming days, weeks and months when you post on the mediocre and success stories PDC has too.

Also i find it interesting that he mentions Mourinho in that interview as i have said for a long time that whenever we lose(like morinho) the defeats actually always gets deflected away from the players and straight onto him,is this a conscious thing i dont know? but as i say it has worked up til now

I'd also like to add that I think Wes has been very mature in offering an apology today. Why don't you just click on the ignore button, as in your eyes everything I say is completely invalid.  Is it just because it's not the same view as yours, or possibly because I'm female and you don't think I should have a view?

FWIW I love Di Canio being our manager, I just think he could react better in certain situations.  I'll have forgotten about it completely at 3pm on Saturday when the match kicks off and I'll back him and the team like I do every week.

Get over yourself.

My take on PDC is he's italian and as such he says what he thinks. People need to realise it's a national trait to say what you think and move on. Hence the Wes is shit theme of yesterday and difference in approach of today. Also people need to give a bit of credit to the players and stop wrapping them up in cotton wool, they're grown men ffs.

Football has always and always will be very different work to anything else. Whenever there is an argument or falling out it's generally in public and in front of the newspapers and TV.

What happens in the majority of cases in football is the same as all of us when there's a falling out at work, you just get over it and get on with it.

In terms of Caddis.  He asked for a few days off on paternity leave, it was refused, he was pissed off, we know the rest.  Personally I don't think it would have hurt to have given him a few days off, but others will disagree.

I love my husband and kids (in a different way to Paolo obviously), but it won't stop me blaming them when I think they've done something wrong  :D

Converstaions with non-native speakers can cause all sorts of problems.

Just the other week the misses told me she had a good meeting with Phillip. I'm wondering who this Phillip person is. She kept going on to say how confident she is of a deal but I had to stop her......

Me: Who is Phillip?
Her: You know, Phillip!
Me: No, I don't know Phillip
Her: Yes you do, we have Phillip's TV?
Me: We have whose TV?
Her: Phillip

Confused as fuck yours truly looks at the TV convinced it was ours and there it was. Of course, it was a Phillips TV, she'd had a meeting with Phillips but could not pronounce the 's'. I now refer to said company as Phil.

There was a 15 minute section on the 'incident' on Radio 5's Monday Night Club tonight including an interview with Wray. Available on iPlayer (starts at 1h39m);

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b01mdgqq/5_live_Sport_The_Monday_Night_Club_03_09_2012/

After it (not on the above clip) John Motson said he has some man love (my words) going on for Paolo. Making the point that everyone says we need characters in the game to make it interesting and it's hypocritical if we then have a go at them when it all blows up and turns to shit.

Ideal situation on Wednesday...Wes starts the match, we go 2-0 up, Wesley saves an undeserved penalty to stop the scum getting back into the game and williams goes onto score  a last minute team goal to put the result beyond doubt, sparking jubilant scenes for the mighty reds with Paolo running down the touch line past the Pox fans to celebrate with the team infront of the town fans...

We dick the Pox, Williams gets a goal, Paolo and Wes have a big love in, and we're all reminded of how much we all love Di Canio...and the Pox fans implode.

...and the FA decide Paolo is too loveable to give a touch line ban to again.?

That 5 minute interview with JW is a brilliant example of why he is, to my mind, the perfect Town chairman, particularly with Pdc in the dugout.

Paolo or Wray would separately be very good for any club, however together their contrasting, and often complimentary, styles and attitudes should make us a force to be reckoned with in any league.

And in the above clip, Chapman also makes the comparison with other "characters" such as Steve Evans and Graham Westley who also put people's backs up but get promotions so "it works" (his quote, not mine).

And yes Wray comes across really well.

A very good post in response to The Sam Morshead column, on the Adver site:

"Nah, Sam, youre wrong - we DO want spats, squabbles and tirades......but from the opposition.

The gleeful response of the Preston fans to what happened on Sunday says it all - they knew that we had imploded after 20 minutes and there was no way on this earth that we were going to take anything out of the game. The further interviews with Preston players on the net shows they and their fans were absolutely scared of playing us, and expected a tougher game, and are delighted to heaven and back to see us leave with nothing.
The further glee displayed by Oxford fans looking forward to playing a team in total disarray has been galling to have to read on the net in the last 24 hours. Hopefully now they will be back to where they should be - afraid of getting stuffed.
We all love an eventful game - its what we go to football for - we'd just rather it wasnt us that was ridiculed on Sky Sports every 15 minutes last night and most of the day today.

Hopefully all involved have learned lessons about "dirty laundry" and "airing in public" - its not a good look. Hopefully both parties have matured a little bit and will now keep their differences where they should be kept - behind closed doors

Some of the obsolute idiots posting total tosh on this and other sites in the last 24 hours need a bit of a reality check as well.
We dont need to sack the manager - we dont need a new keeper. The pair of them are the best respectively we have had for some time. Lets enjoy them doing what they do best...."

That's a fair point Azza. FWIW, I've tried (probably not terribly successfully) to set aside my personal feelings about the man, to examine his behaviour in this as a manager. Which does weight it slightly toward the negative - I don't think anyone thinks he's come out of this well. But I obviously do accept there's a credit side in promotion at a gallop, positive football, the sheer balls the team have shown in the cups etc to offset that. I'd hoped there were signs he was also learning from his mistakes (as I think JW was suggesting on R5 last night) e.g. in very quickly correcting the poor signings at the start of last season. He's still got some way to go in that clearly, and how costly it proves to be and whether we can afford it are yet to be seen.

In the meantime, I don't think it's unreasonable for I and others to point out his behaviour over the past two days (because it did continue into yesterday with the McMahnio rant at fans) has been appalling and more befitting of a teenager than a grown man, much less one who is the very public figurehead of our club. If as JW seems to think he is learning from those mistakes all to the good, it will perhaps mean he can carve out a career as a manager. If he can't, I don't think he'll be able to sustain it long-term, here or anywhere. But we'll see.

And FWIW, I suspect the Wes thing is patched up (very skillfully by JW) rather than over.

As for the characters thing, I have had mates who support Liverpool, Pompey, Saints, Cardiff and Spurs come up to me and say that they love Paolo, they love characters and football does need more characters, but all of them say they wouldn't want him managing them because they would tear their hair out at times.......this is what we have.

I'm not aware he has, aside from the Rovers' game away which was more of a hissy fit than a falling out. I mean one where it drags on for days when our very compliant board reach a point where they have to say no can do.

He always comes accross as "holier than thou" and he knows everything about football and football management, wierd for such a failed ex manager who is unlikely to get another football job IMO. He never has a good thing to say about Swindon, pretty much ever, and I don't think he has ever forgiven the club for not appointing him manager a few years back when he went public about his interview with us.

I also very much disagree with a lot of what he says and find him pretty much unlikeable as a person.

Expects a good performance even if he puts out the same XI

Will be a great atmospere (from Swindon fans, not Oxford!!!)

Any debut players will be wanting to impress

Reading between the lines it's as if he knows that if there's a huge fall out it is followed by a big performance.

Surely he hasn't done all this just to ensure we stuff the Pox?

SSN seem to think we are playing tonite

And for the first time on SSN they mentioned Chris Wilder - fucking limelight hogging cunt

Coming to this rather late...but just listened to this over lunch.  The importance of the Chairman/Manager relationship has been touched on many times before - but you can really see how it is that Jeremy Wray and PDC work together.  As the Washbag article points out, how will the dynamic work, though, when results are not going our way?  Time will tell (although, hopefully, not too soon.)

Over all, a great piece of radio - and, again, a great interview from our Chairman who, I hope, will be with us for many years to come.  (PDC will be gone one day, but we'll need to hold on to Jeremy Wray for the longer term.  No doubt about it.)  I'm glad I listened.

The importance of the Chairman/Manager relationship has been touched on many times before - but you can really see how it is that Jeremy Wray and PDC work together.  As the Washbag article points out, how will the dynamic work, though, when results are not going our way?  Time will tell (although, hopefully, not too soon.)

I've thought for some time that Paolo needs Swindon as much as Swindon needs Paolo. The club were at a low point and needed a manager to reinvigorate the club, to raise morale (for the fans as well as the club) and to get it moving in the right direction. Whilst Paolo needed a club that would put up with him. Thought the Wray interview went some way to confirming this.

Not sure about Paolo actually learning anything or improving, as Wray seemed to suggest. Paolo is just as bad as he's always been and I really don't see that changing - is there really much difference between the person who went off on one on Sunday and the person who sat down on the pitch and sulked when he didn't get the penalties he thought he'd won all those years ago at West Ham?

I'm not complaining though as it's great fun. I'll take Paolo over Paul fucking Hart any day of the week.

I spoke with a West Ham fan when Paolo first took over, whose views on him were akin to god worship. I really didn't get it - a good player with an attitude but I just didn't understand why they held him in such high regard. I do now.

That is a great read and as it rightly, and worryingly, notes Di Canio has yet to fall out with the board. It would seem to be only a matter of time, and there'll only be one winner in that one.
Yep, brilliant article. He will fall out with the Board at some point though, it's almost inevitable and the only logical conclusion if he carries on in the same vein (which he will). Hopefully we'll be back in the Championship before that happens.

But can his management style work higher up the food chain?
