Title: Charlton vs Swindon - Official Matchday Thread
Post by: Ralphy on Monday, January 3, 2011, 09:00:01
I'm going for a 2-1 victory.

Goals from Frampton (header) and Austin (Volley)

2-1 Charlton. Confidence  is low and we look to have no bollocks for a fight.

A bafflingly breathtaking display from the Town whcih flies in the face of logic in light of recent abysmal performances.

3-0 Austin, Pericard 2 (TWO)

Charlton's new era starts today with this being the first game at The Valley under their new owners. It'll be nice to spoil the party.

I'm going in with the usual quantity of hope but without expectation!

Considering the way we were munched by Charlton just a few weeks ago and the lack of any improvement since I can't see any outcome other than another gloomy result.  A 2-1 defeat is about best case I can realistically see.

Get this to the dressing room, and read the last line!

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be my team - my Swindon!

 Strange results do happen in a season....and for us to win at Charlton would be strange, given that we couldn't manage it last season twice, when we were fairly useful away from home, and on one occasion they only had 9 men.

Think Charlton have had their Valley freak, when they lost to Walsall about 3 weeks ago.

 A draw would be a significant achievement

I've predicted 1-0, so it won't be that. My prediction form this season has been awful (probably because I've predicted us about two defeats all year) considering I won it two or three seasons back.

This really is the kind of game that could go either way. Form would suggest we'll struggle to do any better than a 2 goal defeat, but they have a couple of important players out and we have a point to prove - if the players have anything about them they'll be desperate to put a shift in today.

Ah that feeling of dread and despair.

I've missed you old friend.

I think back to Jan 98, when we played at Gresty Road on the box....we were truly terrible, not sure we had a shot on target all game...McMahon persisted with 5 at the back.

We were about 8 games into a run which saw one win, albeit 4-1 v Scum...and maybe a couple of draws....fortunately we'd had a good start, and a scratchy win v Stoke with a Mark Robinson goal just about kept us up.

We've never really recovered form that level of shitness, dread and despair, just the occasional blip, and it's back in full swing now.

Would love to see us pull off a surprise win, but sadly can't see it.

I don't think any of us could see it when we went to The Valley in March 2000 either.  Charlton were top of the table and went on to win the title with 91 points, while we finished bottom that season with 36 points.  But happily, 3 of those 36 points were nicked that afternoon during a highly improbable win.  Good fun it was too.

In an effort to avoid a serious bout of depression, I'm going to stop reading this thread until kick off.

That season we'd just beaten Huddersfield mid week to prevent us going 20(?) games without a win. We were on a high.

Correct. That has to be the most ridiculously unlikely win ever. A win on that occasion looked far more unlikely than it does today. It should not have happened and 999 out of a thousand it would not...but it did. I'm not saying we're definitely going to win but I would never, ever give us no chance of winning, whoever we're playing.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us come away with a win - Charlton are a much weakened side from last season, their top scorer is out, and in their last home match they lost 1-0 to bottom of the league Walsall.

What a surprising team. I don't agree with it at all.

But then again none of them except Charlie are really indespensible so it doesn't matter who we play...maybe it will be a kick up the backside for those that have been dropped. Or maybe it won't affect anything....which has been the pattern all season

the best bit of the tv today will be how Sky will put that out as a formation. I assume they'll at least get Austin as the lone striker?

 Phil Smith;
Paul Caddis, Sean Morrison, Andy Frampton (c), Michael Rose;
Simon Ferry, David Prutton, Michael Timlin, Matt Ritchie, Alan O'Brien;
Charlie Austin

Or maybe AOB as a 2nd striker, or Matt Ritchie 'playing in the hole'. Or can Ritchie use his Right foot, maybe he's the right winger, but i though he was left? Maybe ferry and tims int he middle with Prutton 'playing in the hole'

Just stick the flipping trialists out, this should be their match ffs.

Wilson's last game

Ha. Obrien must be starting to get him in the shop window.
 2 left wingers, 3 centre mids and one striker.

I bet even the fucking eskimos know that's not how you set the team up to play. Im sure Ritchie has playeed on the right for us before though? Maybe it's more a 4-3-3 / 4-5-1, thats worked before in the season...

A defeat tonight and he has to go. Shocking line up.

Looking at Charlton's recent form, I doubt they're too confident either. Only 1 win in 6 matches and that was against Luton. Even Walsall beat them at The Valley.

I'll go for a 1-1 draw.

Fuck me you lot are depressing....  We won there last season with 10 men (albeit on penalties and in the playoffs) so who's to say we won't go there with a full XI and smash them 3-0?

I'm going for a sneaky 2-1 win, Austin to grab both Town goals and boost his already soaring reputation.

Wilson doesn't seem to be able to win with some of you.  We've been shit, so why not mix things up a bit?  OB has proved invaluable on the road (at Southampton, LDV) with his pace.  Perhaps we've been over-reliant on Cuthbert.  Fuck knows, but give it a chance.

Wheah Torquay 3 - 3 Oxford.

Looks like an interesting team imo.  Hopefully have a lot of the ball in midfield and counter attack quickly with the pace on the wings

Nice theory, but who's going to make the difference from Saturday that means we see a lot of the ball?  The inclusion of O'Brien isn't going to make a lot of difference on that front and I can't see Timlin being more effective than JP - but hopefully in a couple of hours I'll be eating these words.

I am fully aware of this.

I think I answered it when it was first asked x amount of months ago, but someone has to ask every time they we go behind dont they?

I think we all know it was away at Brighton in April 2009.

Clearly not everybody does, because as you pointed out somebody asks every time?  :)

Could this be the game when that record finally deserts us, let's hope so.

Indeed. I still think that dropping Cuthbert was a strange decision but having said that, Morrison's done OK.

Overall, that was great half of football. Charlton should have been embarassed to have been leading by a fluke goal which blatantly should never have been given.

I love the look of Rose going forward. When Sheehan is fit, I would play him at left back and Rose left midfield.

Happy Days! (so far) 8)

No, nor do I because I don't think he's been poor enough to be dropped.

Maybe it's a case of wanting to see Sean playing alongside Frampton or Cuthbert needing a break.

I think the point is that we all looked at the team & thought WTF is that, but sometimes you just have to trust that the manager knows what he's doing

Austin has already had his obligatory 2 misses...  fuck the hoodoo, stay positive.  Excellent 45, don't think any player can be faulted.  Even Caddis' near miss would have been a spectacular own-goal.

Ritchie has looked different class, with Ferry also having an excellent game - I think surely he must have justified a run in the side now.  I'm still unconvinced by Prutton, just a poor man's Douglas.  The fullbacks have both had decent games, Rose looking bright down the left.

All we need now is Wilson unleash the secret weapon, Juve Number Nine Peri-Pericard to bang us the winner.

I'm eating my words about the midfield so far!  Has been a hundred times better than Sat.  Timlin's playing really well.  I'm not convinced that AOB's adding a lot though - great pass for the goal but hardly featured otherwise - surely another striker alongside Austin would be more beneficial as we're losing out in that area.

Bloody good first half that, even with them scoring. Some of the best football I've seen from us this season and AOB even beat his man once!

Ferry has looked class so far as well.

He's got it spot on tonight. Not as clueless as some would have thought.

Which also makes this form frustrating!

What we need is another performance on Saturday to back this up.

Will be an Interesting decision for DW on Saturday, does he stick with this line-up/formation or does he change it.

You would assume that JD would come back in

I'm not even going to get started on the rest of the team. He has lost the fucking plot, again.

A bit of me is hoping we get stuffed and then lose the next two as that should see Wilson getting sacked. Will be worth it.

But still letting in silly goals unfortunately!

What a stark difference to any of the other games this season. A consistently decent possession game. Charlton were balls, absolutely terrible but we looked organised an imposed ourselves and worked hard which is what won us the game. We were a team for once and not one player shirked his responsibility. Simply a joy to watch for a change. No more hoofball and a great result ensues.

One game at a time though and if we take every game as it comes rather than thinking we should be in the playoffs then perhaps we'll prosper. Need to get a point at Oldham and a win against Yeovil and if we do that then I think Wilson and the team will be restoring my faith. Should we put in the typical performances of this season then unfortunately this game will have been a crazy one off.

Very bizarre that almost overnight we can play like that. Everything clicked.

Well after managing to stream the last 15 minutes of it at work and then having to argue with some fat bint behind the bar across the road I managed to catch all the goals that mattered tonight. Fantastic performance from the lads. Commitment, discipline and endeavour across the park and a thoroughly deserved victory. Can't wait for my local fixture on Saturday now!

Only negatives for me were Prutton, who I thought was utter shite for the whole game and who I hope Wilson drops in place of Dougie, and the switch of Ritchie to the right when JP came on just didn't work. Ritchie was immense up until that point and hardly saw him after that.

Despite the general gloom that Town fans have had lately, we've always known that we're capable of performances like that; it's just that they've been so inconsistent.  Contrast the great performance against Huddersfield and the 2nd half vs Rovers with the displays vs Leyton O and Charlton at home.
This doesn't necessarily turn around the season but needs to be used as a real booster to confidence that will see more like today and less like Saturday.

So... when was the last time we came behind to win?   :D

That'll stave off the King Out brigade for a while...  Only 6 pts behind Charlton, all we need is a bit of a run and the season would be transformed.  Austin seems to want to stay, certainly for the meantime.  We have the quality in the squad, it just takes the right shuffle.  It shows Wilson's got a hard job picking his first XI - too many on here were quick to criticise when it would seem he got his selection spot on!

Fuck me, this thread might get to the same length as the Bournemouth thread...

Prutton shit?... :hmmm:...lost me there.

Thought he charged around a lot but lost possession far too often, made the wrong decision more times than he made the right one and felt he was the weak link. All IMHO of course. See Charlie's offside goal when he should have spread it left. Bear in mind I've only seen him 2 or 3 times this season so haven't got much to compare it to.

Oh thank fuck for that. Everything is OK now right? Just like after the Southampton games, and the Wednesday game, and at several other points this season, when the side has managed a decent performance.

If it's alright with everyone I'll I delay my celebration until we've pulled out of our "beat a top 6 side then stumble to a half arsed draw, or pathetic defeat to the likes of fucking Dagenham" pattern, amd we're at least in the top half of the division.

Well, that was a pleasant surprise. We were ace.

Bossed them for 90 minutes. I was completley baffled when i saw the line up, but fair play Danny, it worked a treat. Cant fault anyone tonight, though Ferry was particially immense, much more like the player of last season. The players looked so much more together, they looked delighted when we scored. Also, it was refreshingto have commentators who were quite knowledgeable about the league.

If this doesn't kick start our season, nothing will.

What? I thought Prutton was superb playing just behind Charlie. Left Timlin and Ferry to do the dirty work (who also had good games) and just got on with the good stuff.

My thoughts:
- Ferry & Timlin were superb
- Prutton was very energetic
- Morrison and Frampton played very well together
- Thought Smith was not tested.
- O'Brien's pace clearly scared Charlton in the first half
- Thought Rose linked poorly with O'Brien in the 1st half. Lots of hoofing to noone (not the Brighton player). Ferry bailed Rose out a few times defensively too
- Caddis looked good going forward in the 2nd half, but not so great defending against a speedy winger in the first 60 mins.
- Austin looked a little off the pace in the first half. By that, I mean that he got into great positions, but the 2-3 chances he had he seemed to misjudge the pace of the ball.
- Ritchie sparkled on the right. Wasn't so effective on the left.
- Surprised to see Cuthbert come on for Timlin. Thought Cuthbert was at fault for Charlton 2nd as it was his man who scored (Frampton came flying in just a little too late)
- Great cross from JPM for Austin's second. Not sure whether he touched the ball other than that.
- Dossevi ran around but had little time to impress.

The questions that I find myself asking:

1. Was that display because they were on the TV?
2. Will it be repeated or will they relax again?
3. Were the players just trying to put themselves in the shop window?
4. Were Charlton just poor?
5. Will this performance hasten Austin's departure?
6. Should we read anything into Pericard being on the bench for the last 2 games?
7. Will Frampton & Morrison be the preferred pairing for now?

Ok, my mistake on the example then. Just thought as I was watching the game that he got so much space and didn't do enough with the ball and gave it away too often. Put it this way, if I were to drop one of him, Ferry or Tims for Dougie then it would be him. Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Monday, January 3, 2011, 20:49:42
Well I certainly wasn't expecting that. For the first time this season we actually played well for 90 minutes of a match. We were in total control in terms of possession and controlling the tempo of the game and we created plenty of chances. And the biggest factor of all.....we actually fucking won after going a goal down. At long last.

Charlton got lucky with their 1st. I didn't think we deserved to be losing at any stage during the game so it was good to see us get back into it and then batter them in the 2nd half. I thought they all played well today. Was impressed with Ritchie and that was certainly one of his better games for us. Like I said the other day when we give him the ball things can happen. Ferry is starting to look like the player from last season again. That's a very positive thing. And Charlie scored more than 1 goal in a game.

It was a good team performance and much needed. This is the sort of result that can turn a season but we've been here before. 1 swallow doesn't make a summer and we need to build on this and get a result at Oldham and then at home to Yeovil. There is still plenty of hard work to be done that's for sure.

And final word for Wilson. Saw the team before the game and cringed but to be fair to him he got it spot on today with his tactics and selection.

So glad I went now! I'll post my thoughts then delight myself by trawling through the previous 32 pages...

When I heard it was 4-5-1 it sounded like a pretty good idea. Wasn't sure about dropping Cuthbert, but wasn't overly distraught about it either. Do we normally start warming up 50 minutes before kick-off? I thought we usually left it a bit later!

Smith did well, can't blame him for either of the goals and was generally calm under pressure. The back four did pretty well on the whole. Caddis and Rose got forward well and we dealt with their wide players when they got forward. Morrison was pretty solid apart from one little mistake in the second half, and Frampton was his usual no-nonsense self.

I was very impressed with Prutton and Ferry. Prutton seemed to play as an attacking midfielder, holding the ball up well, putting their back line under pressure and linking the play. Ferry was great putting tackles in and bombing forward. I was a little less impressed with Timlin as I thought he often sat a bit deep and allowed their players too much time on the ball, but he was still fairly decent.

Ritchie had a better game, and has now been involved in 3 goals in 3 games, scoring two and winning the pen against Posh. Also, we finally managed to play some decent balls in to Alan O'Brien. I think our success on the wings was largely down to Charlton being poor at the back - we were given far too much room at times, and balls over the top or through the middle were tearing them apart at times. Even so, we had to take advantage of that and the wide men did so.

Austin ran his arse off as ever, and deserved his two goals. Great to see some sprinkler action too!

JPM came on and did ok. i was surprised to see Cuthbert coming on as were defending well. I was a bit worried we'd go for 5 at the back, but it turned out to be a decent change, with Cuthbert slotting in well at RB and putting some good challenges in towards the end. Dossevi was alright - by the time he came on we were just trying to run down the clock so his main job was to hold the ball up. I thought he might have put their defence under a bit more pressure when they had possession but never mind.

Overall it was a good performance, with a number of individuals really showing their worth for a change. Wilson got it spot on tactically, and we thoroughly deserved the points. Yes, Charlton were poor but to go away from home and score 4 (and win!) is not something to be sniffed at. (And there was still a guy near me who moaned throughout the game about only having 1 up top!). If we can get something at Oldham it will have been a very successful week!

I saw the team and could only conclude Wilson had lost the plot and it was his last throw of the dice, decided to go out instead and couldn't believe it when I checked the score.

Fair play to Wilson but I can't really see a team containing O'Brien and Rose maintaining any consistency.

But when Sheehan comes back, Rose can play left midfield. That's what I would do any way. His delivery of the ball, whether from a wide or central position is absolutely fantastic.

austin lead the line brilliantly.
will have gained even more admirers after that performance.
morrison too was solid and assured alongside frampton.
I personally wouldnt change a winning team unless I had to.

I thought Prutton, Ferry and Timlin played bloody well and totally bossed the game.
I agree with these two posts.
Morrison was a rock at the back alongside Frampton. Good to see Rose putting in yet another fantastic performance. Really pleased for him. He's always been good going forwad, but shakey at the back, however just recently, he's been very assured.
I agree with you DV. Keep the same starting XI, however stick Dougie on the bench. It'd be nice having a player of his calibre coming off the bench after 60 or so minutes to 'fuck shit up' a bit.

I like this winning lark

Reading through this thread has been hilarious. I thought Wilson had it pretty much spot on with his team selection - the only question being why Cuthbert was on the bench. But it seems most on here were writing us off and calling for Wilson's head as soon as they saw the line up.

This isn't me saying I'm right and you're wrong, but perhaps a few on here should take a leaf out of leefer's book?  Fair play to those who held their tongues or have accepted they were wrong. Same team again for Oldham please Danny!

Can someone reset the stopwatch now?  :clap:

With absolute pleasure.

 I know I've been one of those that's continually harped on about the going behind and not being able to then come back and win, but the longer it went on the harder it became.  To finally do it in this fashion makes it even better and hopefully will give the team the confidence that's been missing when the situation arises again.

There were only about 100 town fans so you probably did!

Says 347 on the O/S. that would have been at the end after loads got thrown out! Anyway someones fiddled the figures and trousered a few 25 quids as I'm positive there were 400+ of us.

Fantastic display-great atmosphere.Ferry MOTM for me,Timlin,Morrison and Frampton close behind.I wasn't that impressed with Prutton though.But Charlton it has to be said were really poor,down to us you could say.We battled and looked like a unit-that was the big difference for me.Fair play to Danny for persevering with 4-5-1 after going 1 down but again was a bit baffled by the subs.

I thought the subs were fair enough. O'Brien had run himself into the ground, Cuthbert coming on (and Caddis playing on the wing) gave us a bit more defensively on the right, and then Dossevi came on because Austin was knackered.

I saw you tonight adje - would have said hi but you were about 10 rows in front of me!

Great game. Great fun. Very very hard to believe that Charlton started the game in 3rd. They were really poor.

I think I've finally worked out why Timlin is such a frustrating player. He does really simple things well: "Hit that bloke", "Throw yourself in front of the ball", "Pass in the direction you're facing". But whenever he has to make a decision, he struggles. He had a couple of chances to release Austin, or AOB and tripped over his feet.

Charlie A seemed delighted to get his first. Real celebration. I was worried he was starting to try too hard, but the boy is just a natural.

The Stewards did seem pretty heavy-handed. Who was the big unit trying to fight back in the middle of the stand? What had he done?

I been one of the first to have a pop about Wilsons tactics lately but today he gave us a glimour of hope.

Chuffed to fuck

Wonderfully put.

My reaction to the teamsheet was colourful to say the least, but fair play to every single one of them, and DW. You could tell from the first 5 mins that they'd had an absolute rocket put up them. Everything that was missing on Sat was obvious in abundance. Spirit, tempo and desire, and tactically DW got it spot on.

The humble pie tastes good tonight!

Huddersfield fans don't like him after he celebrated at their place last season.

So long as he doesn't celebrate in front of us when he inevitably scores against us at some point in the future.

Indeed, Huddersfield fans book him, he scores cups his ears infront of the stand and some 14 year old wannabe chavs run down giving him the wanker sign - that how it went down, you can see it in the replays.

Huddersfield fans saw it a bit different. They were welcoming to him, gave him no stick, he scored then swore at the family stand and scarred all the kids for life. He's an evil man - he also told them all santa wasnt real.

Great game last night.

Good to meet adje and some more of the London Reds in the Porter beforehand.

Great to see us pressuring Charlton on the ball, great to see some commitment, some good passing at times, and a referee that let the game flow (although how he did not see the handballs for the first goal was crazy!). We took our goals very well - just a shame three of them weren't at our end! Our defence were a lot stronger as well which was good to see.

Town fans were great yesterday. Apart from ten minutes after they scored, we pretty much sang from start to finish.

Show the same level of commitment, desire, passing and finishing and we'll start to move up the league. Yesterday proves that you only need to do the simple things well in football and you'll be effective.

Quality night. Obviously no as good as the play off semi but came a damn sight closer than most of us expected.

Think its been covered elsewhere but those stewards last night really were unbelievable. Did their best to ruin everyones enjoyment IMO.

Around this time last night I heard the team news on the radio heading out to watch the game and was shocked to hear that Cuthbert had been relegated to the bench and outstanded to hear that Alan O'Brien was starting.  It was the first time that I had really started to doubt Wilson.  I think the people who I watched the game with were left in no doubt at what I thought of Town's chances.

However I was absolutely delighted to eat my words as I witnessed a bloody good performance by Town, it has probably been said all before but I thought the pairing of Morrison and Frampton were immense.  I was even impressed by Timlin and Prutton.

Charlton were poor but it was great to see Town punish a team who were obviously under performing and we deserved the 3 points.  Pleased for Wilson and pleased for the fans who made the trip to The Valley who obviously had more faith than me.

The past couple of games against Bournemouth and Charlton have summed up this season perfectly.  Onwards to Oldham.

Good tactics Mr Wilson the change to 4-5-1 seemed to work for large parts

Still not sold on O'brien but for a pork pie or 2 he'll leave and get us a bit of money

the guy :crash: was involved in 2 of our goals and still gets moaned at.

My supposed and untrue miserable cunt demeanor still has fuck all to do with the fact most of the people who get kicked out deserve it.

Its usually young wannabe 'hooligans' who always claim its nazi stewards and they've never done anything wrong - despite the fact they have.

...oh and if we are going to throw insults around I'll go with the classic (...but also true) fat and ginger.

good day.

Stewards seem to bully the small followings now.

Big club's with big away followings get away with whatever they want, but if you only take 300, expect to be hassled.

Its yet another advantage of supporting a big club.

Dear Mr Burrows

Thank you for your E mail.

These are the facts regarding the incidents in The Jimmy Seed Stand at last nights match. If, after reading this, you wish to take this complaint to 'higher authority', then please feel free to do so.

All 8 ejections were recorded on CCTV.
One of the persons ejected was arrested for a public order offence. That person had, in February 2010, only just finished a 3 year Football Banning Order.

A group of around 15 Swindon fans had been identified by CO 11 at 13.00 causing problems in Central London. Our local Police were notfiied and went to meet them. The group came to The Valley before the South Stand box office had opened. They then went to our West Stand box office and a confrontation took place with some Charlton fans.

Following this they went to the Antigalician public house and later attempted to enter the Conservative Club, where Charlton Athletic supporters meet. They were prevented from entering in the interests of public safety. When they arrived at The Valley, before entering they were given a warning by Police Officers about their behaviour. They were very rowdy.

Once inside the Jimmy Seed Stand they came to the front of the stand and seemed intent on making obscene gestures. I sent a security team to give them a warning and ask them to 'tone it down'. After issuing the warning, the security team started to walk away. I observed some of these youths continue to gesture, this time at our security team. I then instructed them to eject the worst perpetrator. I had hoped that this would act as a deterrent. However, some members of this group continued with their gestures. I then decided to eject one more from this group, at the opposite end of the row from the first one, this seemed to have the desired effect.

After about another 5 minutes had passed, I observed one member of the group leave the seating area and walk down to the pitch gate. He appeared to be remonstrating with the pitch gate steward.

I asked the South Stand Supervisor to investigate. She reported that the supporter was extremely drunk, but she persuaded him to return to his seat. He had been 'having a go' at the pitch gate steward regarding the ejections. Unfortunately, the man in question, although he had returned to his seat, just stood shouting to the pitch gate steward. A decision was taken to eject him. As our security team approached from pitch side, the man who was later arrested, stepped forward and physically tried to prevent our staff from getting to the drunk and abusive supporter. This resulted in our security team having to restrain this man and whilst escorting him up the aisle another man tried to prevent the ejection taking place and he also was ejected and handed over to Police Officers.

At half time, some of the remaining members of this group wanted to argue with the stewards regarding the ejections. Some of this group were drinking alcohol, though it is believed that they bought junior tickets. When one of our security stewards asked one of this group to see his ticket, the reply was 'fuck off you cunt, your all cunts'. Whilst this youth was ejected, another tried to intervene and was also ejected.

I believe that a bank holiday with a late kick off, gave this group of youngsters the opportunity to drink alcohol through out the day and this was a major factor in the poor behaviour of this small minority of visiting supporters.

All of the above incidents were recorded on CCTV and all ejections were observed by Police Officers who were extremely complimentary about the way our security stewards carried out their duties.

John Little
Safety Officer

Brilliant, great to see the youth of today taking a bit of responsibility.  At least buy a fucking adult ticket you numpties.

There's never a winner with Stewards, as a couple of arguments have proved with me (DRS, you basatard ;-) ).  Don't go giving them a perfectly good reason to pick on you.

If they were that bad before then why the fuck were they allowed in?

Also what they did beforehand i.e. off the site of the stadium is irrelevant to the reasons why they were ejected. Though it turned out to probably be the reason they were picked on [going by the second-hand accounts on here, I wasn't at the game].

I'm sure most of the incidents occured in some format, but it's a very one sided account. I witnessed the hooha with the lad with the white jumper getting thrown out, and it certainly doesn't mention a steward winding him up by swearing at him and then legging it under advice from the coppers.

But to come in pissed on a child ticket - you may as well walk yourself out straight after kick off.  Even an innocent stumble up a step will see you escorted off the premises.

Not defending stewards, they are nearly all useless (one at Mk and one at Millwall aside).

Do the people in this 'group' not see the whole incedent as a waste of money? Granted stewards can be 'token' but surely follow the town for the football. If you want to flirt with the stewards and the police do it outside the ground for free....

But to come in pissed on a child ticket.

Reminds me of the time years ago when I was working in a local night club. Group of girls came in with a couple of bags and said they were birthday presents for one of them, so the bouncers had a look and pulled out a birthday card that said "happy 16th birthday". On account of it making them laugh they still let them in.

I think that gives you an answer. They were targeted on the advice of Police for what happened outside the ground.

Obscene gesturing is something they dont bother following up with a big following.

My advice to any younguns is to get away with child tickets at away matches for as long as possible!

Probably. The odds are stacked massively against them if they are looking for trouble.

These kids dont seem to realise the Police are reading all their facebook accounts. Basically reading their minds, they know exactly who is planning to get a bit naughty and who is going for the football.

Couldnt be more different to the 1980s, when Politicians and Police seemed genuinely bemused about who it was causing the trouble.

Gives Neighbour something to do....make him feel important!
