Title: Club versus Country? A study into football fan loyalty
Post by: fanloyaltystudy on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, 10:11:48
Hi everyone,

Apologies for clogging up the board, but I am hoping you can help.

I am conducting an academic study into football fan loyalty, in particular looking at loyalties towards both club and national football teams. I am also investigating the role of national identity in this process and have developed a survey (see the below link) to address these issues.

In order to gain a representative sample, four teams have been randomly selected from each of the major four divisions, and your club came out of the hat! I would therefore be hugely grateful if you could donate no more than 10 minutes of your time to completing the survey: it is simple to complete via drop down menus and tick boxes. In order to be eligible to take part you must:

•   Be of English origin;
•   Be at least 18 years of age.

No contact details will be collected and the survey is fully anonymous.

Many thanks for your time and I promise not to start any other threads to clog up your message board. The survey can be accessed at:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/fanloyaltysurvey

Cheers,

David

Done!.

Some of the wording of the subjects with negatives in (I will not change my team) had me double checking if I'd got agree/disagree the right way round, but that's partly because it's a bit early.

Not really, just too good an opportunity to resist? Why are we all asking questions?

Doing that survey just highlighted to me how little I really care about the England football team in comparison to Swindon. Not that I didn't know it already, just reinforced it.

I am obviously not a patriot and therefore would be unable to go on a cuddly toy picnic (Or something, or nothing)

Same here. It also highlighted to me that while Swindon are a source of (probably misplaced) pride for me, the England team just make me embarrassed on and off the pitch

Sorry - but no one sings that.  Anyway I am going to come back and haunt the CG dressed as Bobby Barnes wearing Quaser boots.

Aren't you German?

No, you trampy cunt. I was born there because my Dad was serving at the time in The British Army.

Grooming and encouraging underage drinking. Two crimes for the price of one today?

So you were born in Germany then, you German.

I was born in the Berlin BRITISH Military hospital and my birth was registered at the BRITISH Consulate.

My Birth Certificate is BRITISH and I have a BRITISH passport.

My dad was born in Tiverton, Devon and my mum in Tavistock, Devon.

If that makes me German, pass the bratwurst.

So your parents are English and you're a Hun. Its alright to admit you goose stepped out of a hospital on German soil. There's nothing to be ashamed of.

Haha, I know you're on the wind up but I never actually set foot on German soil. The Military hospital is classed as British Sovereign territory, as is the camp we lived on and the Consulate.

Suck on that!

I class myself as English, as that's where my family all come from.

The problem is, it only states British on my passport.

I want to gas you. (Maybe I'm German after all, does that mean I get to support a half decent football team?)

You should, though.  Berlin's a great city.

With my diet - or lack of - I'm afraid you would be the one on danger of being gassed. You can take the boy out of the Motherland but not the Motherland out of the boy.
