Title: Next Year's BBC Swindon Coverage
Post by: flammableBen on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 21:02:45
Apparently Mark O'Donnell won't be doing the show anymore. Bit of a shame really.

What a load of old piss.

Wonder if it's anyone new or Hodgetts/Longdon. They're ok but O'Donnell raised the bar considerably.

O'Donnell was quality. Shame that.

I reckon they should give it to the girl who is currently doing the non-sport show on a Saturday. I forget her name but she also does the Wiltshire Introducing show on Thursday nights.

The Vic Morgam slot she has been doing has been quality, and she won't be afraid to play non-playlist stuff. She will soon learn the offside rule, I am sure.

Mark O'D was excellent. Shame he's not doing it, may he got a better job away from local radio?!

That's a shame, the radio coverage was probably at its best last year.

His rants at Wilson Out man, the texts and his impression of Brunel radio was extemely funny.

Perhaps he'll come to the games instead.

Although he's a Non-Leaguer, the fall of Salisbury could mean Longdon focuses on Swindon games?

I had a quick chat with him at Wembley & he said that he's contracted to Bristol until October, & what happens after that is "up in the air".

Hi, I work for BBC Wiltshire and i can shed some light on this subject. All i know is that Mark will not be doing the sports show, shaun hodgittts will also not be doing a great deal on air due to him bieng a manager and i think ian longdon will continue to do live bits from the ground. I have only been working there for 5 weeks but i think that i may well be taking over or at least helping out. I know that nothing is set in stone as yet as talks r still ongoing about a new format to the sports show.
Hope This helps

Hmmmmm

Being a fan of Brie scores a fair few points in my book, although this is definitely negated by not being a fan of ska. How can somebody who does not like ska possibly be in broadcasting? Although some halftime 70's/80's cheese might go some way towards compensation.

Heres the offical gen from the man himself and NO i dont work for the BEEB!
Ok - here's the dope.....

I'm moving to the Saturday midmorning show (9am-1pm) because I already present the weekday midmornings and it makes sense to have the same presenter and programme team working together. Ian Longdon will bring his considerable wit and expertise to Saturday Sport which will include the usual build up and commentary of all Swindon Town games but no commentary this season from Salisbury City.

I am incredibly chuffed about all your support and while I will miss presenting the sports show, I will at least get a chance to see a few games this season. Starting with the opener against Brighton. I reckon I can make it to the Merlin by 1.30...

Yourmessages of support here and on the Town End forum and the fact that I am the subject of a Facebook group are a professional first for me, and they give me more pleasure than perhaps is healthy for my ego.

I'm very excited about the new show, which can only benefit from the energy and life that we created in Saturday Sport, just in an earlier time slot. I'll also get the chance to put some faces to any names I've so far only read on text messages and Facebook posts - as well as doing something I've never managed to achieve yet - watch a game from the Town End.

So - thank you again. Keep the faith, and I look forward to seeing you at the game.

Cheers

Mark

3 Questions:

1) What is your favourite cheese

and

2) What do you know about manatee's?

and

3) What is hardest, a great white shark or a honeybadger?

2) I am one who delights in all manifestations of Sirenia
3) The Honey Badger (although the Rock Badger is harder still and protected by God Himself (Leviticus 11:5-6)
