Title: [F1] The Brazilian Grand Prix
Post by: Batch on Saturday, November 1, 2008, 17:18:43
1. Massa (Ferrari)
2. Trulli (Toyota)
3. Raikkonen (Ferrari)
4. Hamilton (McLaren)
5. Kovalainen (McLaren)
6. Alonso (Renault)
7. Vettel (Toro Rosso)
8. Heidfeld (BMW Sauber)

Interesting quali. The way Massa blitzed it I assume he has a light car. Trulli provided the surprise though, presumably also light.

In an ideal world Hamilton could slot in behind Kimi and pick of Trulli through the pit stops.

However there is an 80% chance of rain tomorrow.Anything could happen and the safest place is at the front (assuming you make the 1st corner!).

Race start is at 5pm GMT.  Guess who has other commitments!

Hamilton is very good in the rain. I just hope (if it does come) he doesn't make some silly mistakes like he did last time.

I reckon Red Bull will win everything as this is such an exciting 'sport'.
Anybody can win regardless of how much money they spend on the cars.
I might put my Sabb 93 in next year.....i reckon i could piss that really exciting Monaco race with all those overtaking chances......
Unlike football where the top teams always win (except Hull beating Arsenal - Stoke beating Arsenal etc etc) this really is a free for all.
Love it..............
Shite!

That explains why Trulli is second on the grid then.

Lewis is good in the rain, but rain in F1 is the proverbial cup tie...it's a leveller.  Anything can happen.  I'm also thinking that 4th isn't a great piece of qualifying from Lewis.  The start is the key.  If he can avoid problems on the grid and hold 4th or 5th by the first bend, he'll have jumped his first, important hurdle.

If he gets round the first 2 corners I believe he will be world champion.

He would do anything he could to help Massa win the world championship, could be a good first corner.
If Hamilton is taken out we need his team mate to take Massa out before the end.
Alls fare in love and war.
In fact take Massa out on the first lap.

PS Sorry about your 4/1 on Massa dont think you have a cat in hells chance of collecting.

Personally I think that Kimi will try and back the field up by making his Ferrari 20ft wide. Let Massa and Trulli go 1-2 and hope Hamilton has an incident/disaster/hot head moment. Assuming Massa is in front of course. I think Trulli may have a bit of a go, but being on the dirty side of the track I'm not sure he can do much.

You are right because Hamilton does not need to get involved, mind you with that nutter Alonso just behind him you never know.
Kovalainen must keep Alonso off Hamiltons arse and pretect him for the whole race, I would imagine Hamilton and Kovalainen will be on similar fuel strategies.

Thankfully Massa has had horrendous luck this year, or it wouldn't have gone down to the wire. I think it's very much in the balance still, getting excited about a Grand Prix is generally a forewarning of a massive disappointment, but I can't help it.

I caught the last of that on justin tv, shitty stream with Spanish commentary and the degree of racism shown in the text/comments section makes me proud not to be Spanish/Italian/Brazillian or whatever fucking country they where from.

But what a fucking finish.

And Hamilton was not fucking lucky at all, Glok fucked up by not changing his tyres. The 'logic' that if it was not for Glok's dry tyres slowing him down so much, therefore letting Hamilton pass is incredibly flimsy because had Glok pit-stopped to change his tyres then he would not have found himself in front of Hamilton in the first place innit, Hamilton got it right and Glok didn't that's all.

Besides, against all of the adversity, scandalous point docking and racism Hamilton is now the youngest Champion ever.

GET IN!!!!!!

Gutted for Massa, it couldn't have gone any more perfect from his perspective.

Over the course of the season though, Hamilton deserved the championship.

Definitely a bit fishy with Glock losing so much time on the last lap.

Not fishy at all, he had the wrong tyres and Bangkok red is absolutely right. Lewis was very unlucky to get rain right at the end, not lucky. Obviously he should already have had the title before todays race if he hadn't been given ridiculous penalties.

Frankly anyone who can derive a conspiracy theory that a German driver contracted to a Japanese team (albeit based in Germany) would deliberately lose 18 seconds in the last lap of a GP to hand the world title to a Brit racing for an Anglo/German team and deprive the Italian/Brazilian combo their moment of glory in front of their own fans.......must be ever so slightly mad......

Probably won't stop a whole bunch of pissed off Brazilians sending a bunch of hate mail to Herr Glock though......

Fair play to Massa though; anyone who experiences defeat snatched from the jaws of victory yet remain so humble deserves a lot of credit IMO.

What the hell was Kubitza getting involved with Hamilton and Vettel by unlapping himself on the final lap, absolutely no need and it probably caused Hamilton to lose concentration and his place to Vettel.

PS Glock is replacing Kova at McClaren in two years time, just thought you would like to know .... ;)

If you look at the sector splits, Glock was always slowing. Commentators just fucked it up when they said the sectors were looking ok.

Trulli was doing similar times to Glock as he was also on dry tyres.

How can you look at the sector splits we never see them on the TV unless they are comparing the leader with second or also ran, you can only go by what the stupid ITV advert channel commentators are giving out, thank goodness by the way they no longer have the contract. Five flipping adverts in the first hour of the race, they kill the broadcast.

Just watched the Sky+ recording after successfully avoiding the result. What a fucking race, the whole WDC coming down to tyre choice and the last two corners.

I was tearing the little hair I had left out when he slipped to 6th. Unbelievable.

Glock was clearly on the wrong tyres at the end. A good gamble, but thankfully two corners short of paying off. When Lewis passed you could see him slipping and a sliding. In the end Hamilton had 5.5 seconds over him. Clearly he had no drive.

as Si Pie says, soapy tit wank @ Ferrari who were celebrating until they noticed Hamilton had slipped passed Glock :) :)

Who gets the coverage next year dell

BBC. No announcement on the commentary team or the service yet, but rumours were that Brundle was going over but Bernie's henchmen were trying to block it. Brundle wrote a piece for the times that the FIA are suing over regarding the handling of McLaren in the spygate row.

I'm hoping for at least interactive on BBC next year, a race feed and a live timing screen at least. HD would be nice but I'd rather have interactive.

put hamilton in a shitter car then see how good he is.

Put any top driver in a shitter car and see how good they are.

He's beaten Massa, blown away Kimi and Kovi.  This year he became the youngest F1 Drivers Champion every. Last year he competed with a double world champion in his 1st season. That's how good he is.

He deserved his fifth place - glock fucked up on tyres - Lewis was ahead of him before that, as were all the others.

Overall - Hamilton is King, and rightly so.

Nothing made me laugh louder than the Ferrari garage celebrating when they thought massa had won. The FIA have done everything possible to make Lewis lose and he's still won - fuck 'em.

He is the best driver. End of.

If Lewis had finished sixth, Massa would've won the title on countback as he had 'won' 5 races to Lewis' 4. The difference being the the Belgian GP, which Lewis won, but the FIA in the infinite wisdom (not) awarded it to Massa.

Justice for Lewis !!

Worse than that,  because that one at least had a weak argument to justify it.

Massa would only have drawn on points because the FIA gave him a free one for driving into Bourdais, who was ahead of him when exiting the pits. I have seen no explanation as to why Bourdais was docked 25 seconds, he was ahead and moved as far right to the inside of the track as possible. It was pretty indisputable Bourdais did all he could to avoid contact whilst racing for position.

Regardless, the FIA/F1 need to tighten up their consistency and transparency on penalties awarded for  next year.

I thought they had a pretty transparent policy...make sure Ferrari wins at all costs, and blame McLaren whenever possible !!!

It's a hard figure to find.

But whatever it is, it'll pale into insignificance with the sponsorship money..

Really, I guess it's done on a race bny race basis then.

The constructors championship however is definitely worth £££££

Saw a post saying 2007 was in the region of:

1st – USD80,000,000 (2006 – USD35,000,000)
2nd – USD74,000,000 (2006 – USD33,000,000)
3rd – USD67,000,000 (2006 – USD30,000,000)
4th – USD60,000,000 (2006 – USD26,000,000)

5th – USD48,000,000 (2006 – USD22,000,000)
6th – USD46,000,000 (2006 – USD20,000,000)
7th – USD44,000,000 (2006 – USD18,000,000)
8th – USD42,000,000 (2006 – USD17,000,000)
9th – USD39,000,000 (2006 – USD16,000,000)
10th – USD37,000,000 (2006 – USD15,000,000)

It's true that you get no prize money for winning the Championship, but the impact of being World Champion will mean his sponsorship etc will be worth a fookin fortune next year.

Having said that, apparently Maclaren promised him a £3m bonus if he won the title.

He will be a paper billionaire by the end of next season I would think.

That can be said of almost any sport. Put Torres in Oxfords team, they'd still not win the FA cup. If you want a straight race with equal equipment watch a different series. A1 GP or whatever.

so you compare him to those in the same or equal cars - heikki, massa and kimi. He outdid the lot of them.

Every time this thread has the flashy blue thing (New post) next to it, I am half expecting some sort "Hamilton given time penalty for xxxxxx reason, and stripped of title" post/report.

It's a shame, but the richest people and businesses are the best at avoiding tax. Just means those earning average salaries get shafted even more.

in my (very biased :P) eyes, its only fair that lewis won it, massa, although he's quick, is so inconsistent its not funny.  i mean, at no point should a potential world champion spin 5 times in one race (as massa did at silverstone this year, cos it was a bit slippery. bless him)

Like a lot of British sportsman Lewis didn't make it easy on our nerves - I couldn't watch the last couple of laps.

Great result, although it seems going by a lot of comments on other sites that Lewis' win has not been greeted with universal enthusiasm in this country.

You have to wonder if some people actually want us to win anything at all (although they're probably the same ones that moan when we don't)

F1 seems a bit odd from a fan point of view. People seem to follow a team or a driver regardless of nationality. Mind you, Schumi used to get the same "arrogant" comments from a section of his fellow countrymen.

Screw 'em, he's British and he's won. And he'll win again :)
