Title: Nathan Thompson
Post by: @MacPhlea on Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 06:32:13
Thought the lad played well last night at right back (3) - collected the ball well, played out of defence confidently and never looked under pressure.  Good back up for Jack Smith.

He looked one for the future however did get caught out on several occasions.  If it wasn't for his pace then perhaps it would have shown more.

What they always say though is," give me someone quick and i'll make them into a player" So i guess with coaching he could be a good un.

he has the attributes to be a decent player, just needs coaching now to improve defensive positioning etc

Looks like in 2-3 years if we can keep them ,we might be a mini man utd with a nucleus of 1/2 dozen or so that have come through and played together for years, it can only be good.

Danny Wallington is another to look out for this season in the youth team, couple of years ago had the likes of man utd after him until a serious knee injury kept him out for a year or so, last season was his first season after the injury

Wondered why i hadn't heard his name recently, saw him a couple of times last year and he looked decent and was surprised he wasn't one of the 9 offered contracts, the knee injury would explain that.

See he's my age, played against him a number of times when he was at Warminster. I think he signed for us the same time as Kurt did.
No-one really rated Nathan that much and couldn't understand how he ended up at Swindon.

jealousy i'd say.
Maybe, but then we all knew Kurt was good, and no-one comented on him.

When your youngsters I doubt you rate your abilities in the same way that people looking for potential future professionals do.

Must be good for the likes of Calum Kennedy and Nathan Thompson to be coached by ex international fullbacks like Bodin, and Malpas.

Yes he was a full back, think he may have filled in at CB  a few times later in his career.

Saw Nathan Thompson in the ressys at Yeovil last season and he impressed me loads, he scored a great goal after a long mazey run from the right wing position, looks a very good prospect.

But that day he did play more right side of midfield than right back and he looked very comfortable there too.

Hopefully he will learn from having ex-international fullbacks Bodin and MM at the club.
