No. You're missing the point.

You shout you're mouth off, you make yourself a target and you're fair game.

In other words, as Fred said, walk the walk, talk the talk and all that.

Or maybe you missed his post match Brentford comments?

No, not that one. The one where he said that if he was not selected for the Yeovil game he would be 'knocking on the manager's door'. Nothing wrong with that as such but you are setting yourself up for a fall.

If you say something like that, you have to back it up. If you don't, you have to be prepared to take the flack.

That said, as far as I am concerned, I have given him some flack and from the next game it's forgotten.

Unless he shouts his mouth off again that is.

Hopefully he's learnt his lesson.

I suspect he has.

he gave the ball away so much today, so so so so much.

Pook can be a good player when he gets time on the ball, but Yeovil were on him before he'd even controlled it. The amount of times he got caight in possesion today was loads.

You're either on a wind up or were watching a different game to me. Passing went out of play/to nobody more often than not or lost the ball. Two big no nos for a central midfielder.

The only player that did well today was Ifil and Smith who didn't do anything wrong between the sticks. Rest were average or poor.

Title: Cox
Post by: adje on Sunday, September 9, 2007, 20:16:54
His pass completion percentage couldn't have been any more than 50%-thats shocking for a midfielder and the ones that actually reached their target were either sideways or backwards.Creative he aint.

i can assure you i'm completley serious.some passes didn't come off but he was trying to play some ambitious balls.his cross from the left was probably the best delivery of the game by any town player.he tackled, battled and worked his socks off.
his running off the ball goes unnoticed by too many people also i think.
i thought we didn't play that badly and on another day with the rub of the green would have beat yeovil comfortably.the final ball was lacking but i thought we were the better side, just.

That's what happen most games. It's always Pook's fault - you're right he's not been singled out directly but Peacock for example has been praised for his 100% effort which which Pook always puts in and Peacock is twice as shit this season, which has hardly been mentioned.

He's never going to perform miracles when the ball's constantly being pumped 5 foot over his head.

Wait till he's had a full 90 minutes with decent service from the wing and balls into feet, then make a judgement.

Vincent throwing the ball to Pook and then Pook volleying it back out of play attempting to play it back to Vincent summed up his passing ability i'm afraid. Made a few decent passes but far too many went astray i'm afraid.

I think this is the closest to spot on that anyones got it.  Sturrock is a massive Pook fan but he said in yesterdays adver that Pook looked well off the pace and wasted too many passes.  I'm by no means a Pook fan and I think with the competition for places finally heating up it wont be long before he is no longer a starter.

Cox is striking up a good partnership with Paynter and until Corr is fully fit, is the best option.

at a totally random guess....it would depend on whether they offered him a new contract or not....if they didnt probably about 500k as he could go for a nominal fee or a free in the summer.

If Reading offering him a new 2 year contract then it would have to be about 2 million for them  to listen to an offer.

he's under 24 so there would be compensation (assuming reading offered him an improved contract and he refused).

Looked like very poor defending in my opinion, a very soft free-kick for the ref to give.

From the adver:

TOWN have launched an audacious bid to make Simon Cox's stay at the County Ground permanent, while insisting it would be "crazy" to let Peter Brezovan quit Wiltshire any time in the near future.

Joint caretaker boss Ady Williams has revealed negotiations have started with Reading to sign striker Cox full-time and, with the January sales set to start, is keen to keep hold of their only fit senior goalkeeper.

A move for Cox would involve a transfer fee but, with Andrew Fitton's consortium at the helm, Town believe their chances of snaring the young striker for more than just a loan spell are good.

Brezovan, who has been the subject of interest from Leeds United, starred in Saturday's battling 2-2 draw at Bournemouth and Williams believes the giant Slovak is back at the top of his game after almost a year out with a serious arm injury.

He expects more interest from Championship clubs in the next few weeks, with Cardiff City also rumoured to be tracking Brezovan, but with Phil Smith still recovering from a hernia, Williams insists he does expect any imminent move.

Reading loanee Cox is another who is attracting Championship outfit, with former Town boss Paul Sturrock keen to bring him to Plymouth, but Town believe if the price is right they can land their man.

advertisementWilliams said: "Simon has been outstanding for us since he has arrived and we would love to keep him permanently, if not until the end of the season at least.

"Enquiries have been made and the two clubs are speaking. Simon, Reading and ourselves would like to come to an agreement sooner rather than later, but unfortunately these things take longer than anticipated.

"In an ideal world we would like to know what is happening before the Swansea game on Tuesday but it does not always work like that. The Christmas period is difficult to sort these things out."

Fellow caretaker boss Dave Byrne echoed Williams' sentiments about the impact Cox has had on Town's season since arriving from the Royals at the end of August.

He is top scorer with eight goals and with his loan spell coming to an end after tomorrow's home game with Swansea, Byrne is desperate to extend his stay.

He said: "Mr Fitton has said he will get the transfer embargo lifted and it has to be done.

"I have been in contact with two or three clubs about signing players and we are also in negotiations to keep Coxy here permanently.

"I believe our chances are very good provided we can come up with the right package."

He'd have to sharpen those elbows up a bit if he wanted to really emulate the man. Chalkie was a great one for the sly little dig in the defenders ribs, or up into the solar plexus, just before he received the ball with his back to goal.

However, from what I've seen of Cox he looks a more complete striker than White. A bit more pace, and with a few more options in front of goal. White has admitted that his striking technique was pretty basic, and drilled into him by Macari, "hit it hard, hit it low, hit it early" (or alternatively run between two defenders in the box and go down like you've been hit by a sniper, leaving one arm trailing behind you in a fairly unconvincing manner).

I can't remember many, or indeed any, spectacular volleys, bicycle kicks, or 35 yard rockets from Chalkie. Every time I think of him scoring I either see him harassing defenders into mistakes, robbing the ball, running in on the keeper and scuffing it into the bottom corner, or poking one in from about 3 yards at a corner.

Can anyone remember him scoring a peach at any time in his time with us?

I know they were important goals, but from what I remember both were from long balls over the top that Chalkie ran on to and finished from inside the box. One a bit of a scuffer into the bottom corner when one on one with the keeper, and the other a more difficult chance from a fairly tight angle. I'm not sure in which order?

Whichever, it fits with what I was trying to say, I don't remember him scoring any really spectacular goals. Not that that's a criticism, a team needs a player like that. I don't remember Gary Lineker scoring much from outside the six yard box either but it didn't seem to do him much harm.

Away to Millwall he scored a scorcher. I also think he got another scorcher at Watford - but i take your point Lumps. I'm not sure he's pacier than Chalkie. Cox has a lot more to his game but a lot more yet to prove. Hopefully he will and in a Town shirt as well. if we could get him for £100k it would be a steal.

Indeed. He just gives 100% no matter what the situation is. How a pro footballer should be. He wears the shirt with pride too even though he isn't actually our player. Shame to see him go but maybe we'll get him back.

I like the fact he tries to fuck with keepers heads standing next to them when their kicking and stuff. If doing something like that gets one goal a season by making them uneasy then it's worth it.

Everytime an opposition keeper takes a drop kick he stands next to them. With kicking often being a keepers weak point if you put their kicking under pressure you can reap the rewards if they start feeling uncomfortable or under pressure. There was one game this season where he made the keeper almost a nervous wreck by the end of the game............actually it was Rovers at home, he completely fucked with Phillips head that game, awesome  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

i think cox got a yellow for that. worth it, though as far as i'm concerned, if a goalkeeper comes rushing 20 yards out of his area then he's fair game for getting challenged in the same way any other player would.

but on the bright side, after getting hit once he didnt come off his line again, did he?

He did go up for a corner later on in the game if I remember correctly..........anyway back on subject Cox is a cheeky shit and is very good at giving keepers uncomfortable games which is a big asset to any team.

cox plays like he's still in the under 12s, constant pressure on a ball carryer, will try and get the ball wherever it is in the final third, has his shirt untucked and is only about 4 foot 1, refreshing to see someone of that ilk playing professionally, let alone in our team.

If Reading sell Lita (Another January window rumour mill), they'd need him as 4th striker would they not or am I just way off the mark?

Cox said he wants to be offered a permanent deal by Reading with a guarantee that he will be more involved with the first team. I know he was on the bench today but I don't see that happening in a million years (certainly not the guarantee bit any way).

He has said he doesn't want to go out on loan again.

He has also said that if not offered a permanent deal with Reading with the afore mentioned guarantee and that Swindon offered him a permanent deal, that he would sign.

These factors lead me to conclude that we will sign him before the month is out.

if reading offer him a better contract he either accepts it and stays there, or he declines it and we would become a free agent at the end of the season. we can either agree a fee with reading that would cover his development costs, or if a fee can't be agreed then it goes to tribunal.

given that o'hanlon's valuation after tribunal was £125k, then we can probably consider that as the minimum.

Yes but Cox has stated he doesn't want to stay at Reading unless he is playing first time football so I think Reading have no choice but to sell him now, play him or lose him on a free end of season.  I don't think loan is an alternative, hes not keen and I cant see why Reading would see it as a good move.

As long as they offer him a contract equal to what he's on now wouldn't Reading get compensation decided by a tribunal? I'd imagine that would be more if he's had a good few months at a Championship side.

To be honest, I'm not really saying that he won't join us, just that there's a few things to take into consideration. I'm not even sure if a Championship side would want him on loan. Not sure where that rumour has come from.

Typical Premier League hot shot who thinks he is better than he is. He obviously has not been taught to pass at Reading. Would have rather seen Arrieta up front or Mohamed. The cocky little shit couldn't care less about Swindon but hey, thats what you get with loan players. Paynter will come good when match fit!

The way he talked himself up I expected atleast 5 goals. The guy is the dogs bollocks, He said so himself.

The sooner he fucks off back to Reading the better. His attitude stinks.

If he goes to a premiership team, he'll be in the stiffs, or farmed out on loan.

I'm more worried about Sheffield Utd to be honest. Cox has already stated he wants to be playing regular first team football and he'd probably get that in The Championship.

If a team pay's big money for a striker then he will be 1st choice surely, until such time that he isn't scoring then he will be benched.

I'd suggest that if he goes to the premier then he will be a bench warmer unless he get's off the mark straight away with goals.

I suppose it all depends how confident Cox is in his ability, if he beleives that he can walk into a team and score regular in the prem then I think he will leave.

But on the plus side I suspect he may want to wait until the end of the season as if he carry's on scoring goals like he is then there there will more than likely be more clubs interested os he will have a better pick of where to go.

The only mitigating factor is we do not have to sell anyone, so that means we can put a £3m fee on his head to hopefully scare teams off or they end up paying silly money, we need a decent fee though as there is a sell on clause for reading which is possibly around 25% of the profit.

cox aint good enough for the prem yet.if someone thinks they can improve him and they offer big money then he will be gone.i think a championship club buying him for the hear and now is more likely though

Bump.

Yes, just because I'm as sad a DV and also just for posterity and all that.

I'm glad to see Mr Cox obviously read the comments, took all the feedback on board and channelled it into his game.

That is all thanks

I think we should all give Fred a big pat on the back for his words in which S.C clearly took heed of!

So basically they like him but don't think he's worth £2 million. Proper stereotypical Scotsmen.

I knew this one would come back up - and I didnt even have to bump it myself.

We like to give our players a chance before we judge!

No DV, we like our players to prove themselves before gobbing off to the press that they'd be banging the managers door down if they didn't start the next game. At the point this thread was started he'd had one average game.

If he'd waited a few games noone would have disagreed with him.

As Batch says, Fred had a point at the time. Coxy was giving it "all that" far too early, thankfully he was given a chance and proved himself

Didnt realise that Cox had broken his leg in the past...and didnt realise that he played centra midfield in his early days!..will probably end up there later in his carreer.

Apparently Reading didn't know whether he'd score enough goals as a striker.

Email them and ask why it hasn't been settled then Michael. I assume it still lists as an open bet in your account statement?

Play-offs do not count for any bookmakers - its time to pay up

Title: Re: Cox
Post by: michael on Sunday, May 3, 2009, 17:22:45
I have put in a few emails to them and their position is that they only pay out when the placings are finalised, i.e. after the play-off final.

I shall not use Coral in future and I urge you all to do the same.
