Title: "stevie's on his way"
Post by: sonic youth on Thursday, June 21, 2007, 16:39:46
listening to aljofree's interview on RS now, hodgetts asked him if he knew any of our players and he mentioned a few names including saying "stevie's on his way".

presume that means steve adams is on his way then?

Sheffield Wednesday fan on another forum said he spoke to Adams who pretty much told him it was a done deal.

Aye, defensive midfielder. A bit injury prone as well. Another Evans really.

Evans is a gonner then! that's the midfield sorted bar the wingers then. so 2 strikers, 2 wingers and probably 2 defenders to come?

Steve Adams (born 25 September 1980, Plymouth) is an English footballer currently unattached, most recently playing for Sheffield Wednesday F.C.. The defensive midfielder is extremely adept at breaking up attacks thanks to his ball-winning tackles and ability to read opposition passes.

I believe Adams and Easton to be a fairly similar type of midfielder.

I don't think so.

Adams is very defensive, Easton is more box-to-box.

If Adams can stay fit, and he indeed ends up here, he will do well for us.

From reports of Dundee United and Orient fans, they disagree that Easton is box to box.

Apparently BBC RS said that Adams will be joining for pre-season training - that either means i) Sturrock's got someone he'd prefer to get in, so is holding off on signing Adams just yet ii) He's not allowed to sign anybody else because we're skint iii) I'm just reading far too much into just about anything

Well Sturrock specifically called the boy box to box.

We're building a nice little squad now, quality throughout by the sounds of it.

Easton described himself as 'box to box' as well.

What exactly does it mean anyway?

That he runs around a lot I suppose.

That's what you want a midfielder to do really isn't it?

Confirmed in the Adver today:

http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/swindontown/headlines/display.var.1493250.0.swindon_town_adams_set_to_arrive_for_preseason.php

Sounds like we've not actually signed him yet because Luggy wants him to prove his fitness.

Good to see some new faces. I think the main target now has to be a striker, and then one or maybe two more attcking midfielders

I spoke to a Sheffield Wednesday fan during the week. He thinks Adams is the worst player he seen ever to play for Wednesday. (that is saying something).

If akinfenwa signs i still feel he isnt our striker thats going to knock 20 goals plus hes no different to having roberts as our striker but thats my opinion.

given that jon beswetherick used to play for sheffield wednesday i'll take that sheffield wednesday fan's comments with a pinch of salt.

I take absolutely no notice whatsoever of what other clubs' fans say about their current or past players, particularly after the way Barnsley fans were slagging off Fallon when we signed him.

Not really wrong though, they'd both be crap in the Championship. League 1 is their true home I feel

Which could apply for Steve Adams, also..

we don't need players that could play in the championship, we need players that can play in league 1. i trust sturrock to know which of his former players are up to that standard.

One would hope so, so as others have said worth ignoring Wednesday fans comments as their standards are slightly higher than ours are.
