Does anyone have any old pictures of the Shrivenham Road End and the Stratton Bank before seats were in it?

Thanks.

Remember it well.....the advertising board above what was known as THe Enclosure...used to advertise Serjeants Tools, who had an emporium on Faringdon Road.    Memory is a bit vague on this but it was on a corner, probably opposite the Mail Coach....same side .....not sure what the horny handed artisans of railway's Swindonia would make of the current clientele, of  what used to be The Locomotive.

figures, seem to remember someone mentioning a problem before.....shame really as I'm sure the additional capacity would have been useful that year

After the Bradford fire IIRC, being wooden it was a fire risk.

Think it was to do with the exits more than it being wooden.  Basically in the event of a fire we'd have all burned while trying to escape or the stairs would have collapsed (so shit were they).

I thought it was where the North Stand was now, i am guessing it's early 20th century.

I don't think there were any seats on Shrivvy road until the old Aldershot Tatoo stand was purchased in 1958.

I recognise the face but wouldn't have known who was. Also spotted another Adver reader in the centre of the photo the guy with the ginger hair. Those were the days when you got in the ground early and had time to contemplate life without any mobile phone distractions!
