Title: Notts County......a big game.
Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, December 13, 2004, 11:46:09
Even King has woken up to the importance of this fixture.

This has to be good and hopefully the squad will be prepared accordingly, i.e. not travelling on the day, but overnight with a change of routine thrown in.

Don't think there are too many reasons though, for expecting to progress, other than that the importance may focus some of our underachievers into a show for the cameras

Our record in TV games under King is woeful.

Not a single fixture out of about 5 resulting in an ultimate success.

Then there is the added pressure of the possibility of penalties, I'm sure a lot of ours would rather lose than have that again, which must be to Notts advantage

Then there is our general poor away form,  SSP has just the one goal away from the CG

I would say our best chance has to be to come out all guns blazing....I'd go for starting with  Fallon Parkin and Roberts, and the three at the back.

There is no point in us having to revert to this to chase the game our best chance is getting ahead then going a bit less gung ho.

We probably need at least 2 if not 3 goals, something not managed often this season. A tall order.....think King realises this is a make or break game.

Good shout there Reginald... I agree with what you are saying whole heartedly.

Would be nice to see three upfront and for us to go for the kill straight from the off.

I am hoping that this is one of the games where we turn on the style and play to our potential.

Reggie, you can't be serious in wanting to start with Fallon.  I'd rather start with Kieron Fallon than Rory.

I actually think we'll win 2-0 on Wednesday, Igoe and Howard will be well up for it in front of the camera's.  We played so poorly against County last time round we'll take 'em by surprise this time round.

I'm still feeling pretty negative after our recent performances.

I've got a gut feeling we're gonna play shite and embarase ourselves on telly for the umpteenth time.

That said, i hope the lads prove me totally wrong and we stuff them

Fallon has scored 3 times as many goals on the road as SSP this season.

When we scored 2 at Barnsley, we had RF SSP and CR up front, the only time we've scored 3 RF played.

We need goals as we don't do 1-0's.......better to get a good start than chase, but having said that we lost a 2 and 3 goal lead at Walsall and Stockport, so I'm with Piemonte.

Kieron Fallon is being lined up as our next chairman, a cross between Carson and Brian Hillier (allegedly)

Not an ultimate success though 'cos we didn't win over two legs.

the phrase "over-run midfield" springs to mind there

Jenkins   O'Hanlon   Heywood   Nicholas

Igoe   Howard      Hewlett   Duke

I reckon something like this....

I suspect King will go with the side that finished the game on Saturday.

This will of course be suicide, as you can't get away with Igoe and Howard together in a three, Turbo should come in for Howard.

It'll be the same as the weekend except with Duke in for Nicholas.

I accept your point about starting with 3 up front but I really don't think it'd work. Not feeling confident about Wednesday night to be honest :/

I'd love it if Kingy dropped Howard.  Young Brian would be devastated, bet he's got his mum to put the video on and everything.  He'll be wrestling Roberts for the free kicks.

Just hope someone takes the corners away from Sammy Igoe, he couldn't clear Arnold from different strokes if he was on the front post.  Dreadful corners!!

When I first read this I thought you meant Arnold the place on the NE of Nottingham, I had visions of the ball ballooning away down to Sherwood Forest.

Jon Stevenson plays for Cambridge City now.

Going off on a bit of a tangent, but has there ever been "midget or dwarf football" on tv? It'd be excellent.  22 dwarfs playing footie on a full size pitch.  Imagine the goalkeepers!!

I am not a midget by the way (for those that remember the "how tall are you" post on the thisis forum).  I'm 5' 11" really.

Reg, and everyone else that may know.

Different subject but what the hell.

If a referee gives team A a free kick, then a player on Team A kicks an opponent, off the ball, can the referee reverse his decision and give Team B the free kick (as in rugby).

I say yes, my mate says no.

Yeah but the ball isn't in play, so I reckon that the ref can punish the player but can't award free kick? This is also the same as if a player goes for 'afters' having already won a free kick. They get carded (or sent off) but the free kick is still in his teams favour

As interesting as this discussion is, its probably incredibly "politically incorrect", like saying actress instead of lady actor (its true, actress is now officially a derogatory word! )
Surely Igoe and Young would be greatr in the team though!

I think that King should go back to the "Roberts and Parkin then if losing bring on Fallon with 20minutes left" tactic. So long as there are 20minutes left! :soapy tit wank:

i also think that my mate's mate's sister's best mate's cousin's mate's girlfriend's sister is fit but that's another story!

Don't think Fallon will be picked for Wednesday, as he was in the team v Supermarine, Migs played about 75 mins.

We lost 0-1, but went through on pens.

(Not that I'm complaining) but I find it quite ironic that we weren't allowed to call black people black a while ago but now we have to  :?

Did you go then Reggie??  Migs play ok?  Didn't pick up any injuries did he?  Who else was in the team?
