Title: I think we need to be very careful against Gillingham Post by: BrightonRed on Monday, February 13, 2006, 16:40:31 I've been having a think about this match over the weekend (well, during the periods I wasn't absolutely wasted at least..) and it looks like the perfect match for a slip-up to me.
I think we've had a good enough run now (W5 D6 L2 of last 13) for just the smallest amount of complacency to set in about our ability to get a result tomorrow night. Gillingham have been awful away from home this Season but they got a great result in Swansea and have only lost 2 from their past 10 (including putting 3 goals past us). Much like our team, we shouldn't be judging the likelyhood of 3 points on league position and on current form I think they'll be a difficult team to beat. They didn't allow us to create many opportunities at their place and we still aren't converting as many chances as we should be. Their players know their fans will be up for this match (even more so considering the events around the match in Gillingham) and I think they'll be playing at the top of their game to impress a reasonable away following. All in all a potential upset on the cards in my opinion. BrightonRed - Suprisingly pessimistic today. Of course it will be a tough battle. What it comes down to for me is how well they marshall Curo and Shakes. That said, Brown, Peacock and even Roberts are capable of compensating if they do. We will play really well against Gillingham and win 3-0. We will go shooting up the league and out of the relegation places. Everyone will be cock-a-hoop. Then on Saturday, like a bunch of simpletons, the players will think "Oooooh, we're really good, we've got ourselves out of trouble - we're great. We only have to turn up to beat Rotherham 5-0". Of course if that happens, we will lose. We will get sucked back in to the relegation places and we will all go back to slashing our wrists again. I hope I am wrong of course and that Iffy would ensure that sort of thing never happened. It would be typical of this club though if it did.
