Anyone ever done it? Would you recommend it? I'm considering it, as I enjoy earning money too much now, so couldn't go back into F/T education again. Then again, i've been thinking about P/T uni as well.....anyone experienced in that?

Any advice/anecdotes gratefully received :)

 I know a few people who are or have done OU....and it strikes me its a very individual thing.

 Personally I wouldn't bother,  as I don't like the mind set that's required for any formal learning any more.

  Would you be considering qualifications of a professional nature, or just something that is of particular interest?

It would have to be of a personal interest i think, as i have no distinct career path set out in front of me. I've had a good read of it this evening though, and it seems very professionally based, particularly I.T qualifications, which isn't really what i'm after. Starting to consider the P/T Uni option now, although any decent degree would take 7/8 years to complete, which is putting me off. Decisions, decisions......

Open Universtiy seems to be the worst bits of uni with none of the good stuff... just go back full time!

Don't think I've got the mindset to do it off my own back but if you're working to a pro qualification like accounting then you have the incentive of extra wedge when you're qualified.

Best bet would be to try and do something linked/ to your current job and get work to pay.

Ranges from around £300 upto around the £1500 mark.

Tbh, i'm a bit put off OU having gone through the prospectus. I imagined that they did all sorts of courses, but it's very limited. Can see how it would be good for professionals looking to boost earnings, as you say Daz, so that pretty much rules me out of the picture.

I'm going to start running the rule over P/T courses at Ox Brookes i think, as it would fit nicely around my night shift. Might even consider F/T, but that would mean me moving out of my lovely flat and back home, which i don't really fancy.

FT is ace especially going in as a 'mature student' (over 21).  Having worked in the real world you'll find the work load a piece of piss it's just applying yourself.

There were a few chaps on our course that balanced close to full time work with 'full time education'.  If you have a decent employer who's flexible you may be able to juggle the two.

I think my course amounted to only being at Uni for 7/8 months of the year the rest was made up of holidays so you can still work a fair chunk of the time to support yourself.

I've narrowed my possible studies down to either something sports-based, geography-based or media-based. Unfortunately, that's still a fair bredth of subjects, so i've got some narrowing down to do.

My night shift is a piece of piece, so cushty in fact, that i could probably spend most of my shift studying.

Plus you'll get some benefits of not having to have the typical entry level requirements for courses.  

I lived with 3/4 Sports Science lads at Uni and they loved it.  Lot of theory as you'd expect but a lot of playing as well.  If you go with it though have a good think about where you want to go with it.  Out of the four, two have ended up in the financial sector and started off little above fairly entry level positions (+2 years experience) the other two have ended up as teachers.

Sis did media and specialised in photography and now earns a fair mint taking pictures of tasty birds for ad shots and calendars.

Ace chief I guarantee you'll love it.  I talked two of my best mates into going when they were 21/22 and they've never looked back.

Uni is ace, although I'd wish I'd left it a year or two now. Really struggled with motivation while I've been here. Having been doing accademic assesments of one sort or another for the last 7 years or so they start to seem a bit pointless.

I did two and a bit years full time work before I went and it was ecstacy.  I'd go back tomorrow if it wasn't for my travelling escapades next year.

Have to agree with you Ben, went to Uni at 19, loved the social side (who wouldn't), but just couldn't knuckle down and do any work. A couple of years older and wiser now, i think i could manage it this time around.

I've narrowed it down to 3 or 4 courses, all of which i should be able to get on with my A-Level results. Just got to do a little tinking now.....

I'm doing me application online, through UCAS. It's been so long since i applied first time round (4 years) that i completely forgot i had to complete a personal statement. Basically, i have to say why i would be suited to that course/extra stuff to show my interest and enthusiasm etc.....

Um, i want to go back to Uni so i can get pissed regularly and look at fit women :D A degree at the end is the aim, although it doesn't matter too much what it is. Fuck knows what i'm going to put :?

Do what everyone else does and write bollocks. Just make sure you use phrases like motivated, hard working, I feel I have a lot to offer the university blah blah blah

I wrote a killer personal statement. They loved it. Took me ages to get around to it though.

I also rewrote my mates one a bit, he had stuff like I enjoy learning and I'm highly motivated which I subtley changed to I enjoy watching porn and lesbians. But I changed it all the way through. He noticed the changes before he sent it off though. :(
