To say i'm gutted is an understatement  :cry:

Although the current Type R has an amazing engine and sublime gearbox, it could do with abit more torque.

The new Type R is apparently using the same engine and gearbox.

Handling is susposed to be something special though.

Putting over 200 bhp through the front wheels is allways tricky, look at the Alfa 147 GTA and Astra VXR. They drive terrible with torque steer galore and keeping them on the road is a task.

You don't have to buy another Type R....  Why you gutted?!

Honda's belief is pure driving enjoyment.

I have allways respected them with their manic reving, sweet handling machines and the Type R badge is highly respected by ALL peformance car drivers.

What their now trying to do is keep costs down to attract more buyers by sacrificing development costs.

A Type R is a raw, stripped out racing car.

Type R stands for Type Racing.

Their doing a 'Volkwagen' and ruining their hot hatch bit by bit.

I'm afraid I disagree with you on that one - any mass-produced car is not going to be "purely" about driving enjoyment - particularly at the cost the Type-R is available for.  I reckon Honda have got greedy on this one.  If I had a choice, I reckon the Focus is the best car, simply because the car on which it is based is a great car.  The Honda Civic by comparison is rubbish.

The Focus is nowhere near the Civic on build quality, handling yes.

Honda build some of the best engines in the world too, up there with BMW and Ferrari.

Tiff Needell once said the Civic Type R's engine and gearbox were one of the best he'd ever used. As good as the BMW M3 and Ferrari 360, and thats true.

Jap cars are the best in the world IMO with German cars.

I'm not a fan of Jap cars - no personality...  Maybe that's a British way of saying they're reliable?!  But you're relying on quotes made previously - I think the Type R is becoming dated and if the engine/gearbox isn't updated the market will catch up.

Personally I think I'd be tempted by the Astra VXR as I'm in love with my Corsa, and for 1.2 it can embarrass some cars....  Proud of the day I beat a 318i off the line!   :mrgreen:

Jap cars are generally reliable, havent had a single problem ever with my Toyota

VXR is quick... in a straight line.

I've spoke to alot of VXR owners and the engines is very strong but keeping the car on the road is a task with all that power in a FWD car.

but apparently they have the internal shell etc and he + 1 other are designing the outer shell. from what i've seen it will be fantastic and cost approx £40k.

In full Type R tune (200 bhp) that thing would eat Ferrari's.

also supercharged to 300bhp which works out to be 600bhp per tonne.

hopefully him and his mates can get it off the ground and into production.

the standard atom with a supercharger does 0 - 60 in 2.5sec.

You can lower the 'VTEC point' where the more aggressive cam takes over by using a chip by a company called Hondata.

You don't buy a fuckin Atom to cruise in, it's for sheer thrills.

Lowering the VTEC point means it kicks harder lower down the rev range instead of waiting till 5800 rpm.

The pay off is the fueling needs changing and the engine is totally remapped.
