Title: previous shirts
Post by: SwindonStevo on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, 19:28:49
anyone else think the club should get its ass in gear and reproduce previous shirts? it would cost abit to put the old sponsers names on their but the likes of loki were done by the club so there have the rights to that....there make a fair bit of cash.

I disagree. Why would you want an older shirt?

Unless it was a classic....of which there have hardly been any...

I think it's a good idea. Have most of the older shirts now, but I think there would be plenty of other people who might want shirts from the 92-93 season, the GWR one, LL one from the 80's etc.

I lost a few shirts when I moved  :(

Had the home prem shirt, the 1990 gwr one and the 95/96 away shirt

I swapped my 92/93 play off season shirt for a tranmere shirt on the pitch at prenton park after the play offs  :advercool:

Mores the point with modern branded shirts they are reproducing old kit makers and sponsors no longer involved at the club.  Score Draw make some with sponsors but never the makers name.  Can you imagine lonsdale being happy at us selling mizuno kits?

Ardiles Spall shirt. I'd gladly part with thirty notes for one that would fit my sizeable midrift today.

To be fair, you can buy a '69 replica and in defence of the club, it would probably cost them more to make the classic shirts than it would in return sales given our current poor crowds/traffic past the club shop.

Mark, keep a look out on E-bay for them.

I just got myself one for just over a 5iver, and this one just sold as well for 11.50 so they come up quite often.

I still have the Red home Ardiles Spall one somewhere and the White one. Shame they are too small.

yeah but some of the kitmakers was by the club which the club would still have the rights to (Diamond Leisure, DGI, etc.) so youd only have to pay the sponsers a small cut. Im sure Burmah Castrol would just be happy there getting a bit of cash for doing nothing.

Ebay is the place to find them - Bought about three over the last few years no more than 6 quid a shirt....

how much could it really cost the club to knock up the sponsorless 86/87 shirt? even without spall on it if for some unknown reason they (if they even still exist) didn't cooperate. I'm sure GWR would have no problems with having their logo on a kit if we done the one a few years later

Fine,

Let the Board announce their intentions to do this, then all interested parites place an order with £35 paid up front. Then let's see if it's economically viable. I'd bet they'd get orders almost into double figures.

On my annual trip to the County Ground this season (Notts Co) I saw two kids (not with each other) wearing Spall shirts, one from 1985/6 season.

My mate once acquired an old "Coffer Sports" home top from around early 80's, in a charity shop.

All the Town shirts from the 1980's are ace.

On another note i think Toffs doing the 74/75 kit was a massive mistake as even just chosing the sponsorless efforts, it must have been a much more unpopular choice than a spall style one.
