Title: VB series
Post by: larwood on Tuesday, January 24, 2006, 08:23:57
This series is quite possibly the longest one day series in the history of world cricket.Today its South Africa V Sri lanka, usually i'd be cheering Sri Lanka, but we need them to lose. But at the moment its looking like they are going to win their third game in a row,in a series in which they are playing the Aussies and South Africa,un- fucking- believable.

It seems like Sri Lanka had a complete turnaround as soon as we needed them to start losing ...

Im worried that India are looking very good too .. that is going to be another VERY HARD tour

couple of wickets to the South Africans might have turned the match!  :old:

Yep,89-3,there is still hope :)
Sri lanka have four games left to play, five if todays game is included. And there are potentially three games left at the end of the series,so they could play seven more games before the series finishes. We have two odis before April which is the cut off point, when the ICC one day table is set in stone.Crap :-))(

South Africa win??

South Africa won by 9 runs, sounds like it was a decent game.Sri lanka are now sixth and the Indian's have moved back to fifth. Its ever changing in the world of cricket

So we're going to have to qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy then?.

It does look likely, although we are on the same points as Sri lanka and one behind the Indians. But both of them are due to play more games than  us before the cut off point,so there is a chance they will get more points BUT they could lose them too.Its all very confusing

Yes it's going to be a hard tour, but looking good now? I'm not so sure. Whilst the batsmen have been filling their boots on roads their seam attack is non-existant. They do not have one established seamer.

I don't think we can judge them on the tour going on at the moment though  The pitches in Pakistan are obviously very flat and their batsmen [unlike ours] have done very well.
Playing them in India is a different scenario, but i think with all our four fast boys back we could do something against them.Like draw :)

I've just seen that as well, its a big loss :( .But i think its best if we go to India with everyone fit, unlike in Pakistan where players kept on being called up.I think Blackwell deserves a chance, but by my calculations if KOS doesn't go that means just Udal and Blackwell are on the plane,it still leaves a place free doesn't it?I thought they were going to announce a mystery third spinner  :?

Its the Convicts V Sri lanka at Adelaide to day, chasing 219 to win the aussies are 91-2.I was celebrating when Gilly got out , then i remembered we [England] want Sri lanka to lose. Its very strange wanting the convicts to win,it feels most unnatural.

Its the first of a possible three finals today,Convicts V Sri lanka.Although  we could do with Sri lanka losing,i can't bring myself to cheer the aussie bastards on again,so i'm hoping the Sri lankans win :)
Sri lanka batted first and made 274-8.The Aussies are 71-3,Gilly,Punter and Martyn are out.

Its not all over yet,i'd still say the convicts have a chance.The current ODI table has us in fifth place above the Indians;

So i'm going to cheer on Pakistan :)

He he,another run out, thats three for the aussies.Punter was run out without facing a ball :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:
123-5 :)  Hussey is the key,if they get him out,the Sri lankans should win.

  Another run out! Hussey has been run out by Dilshan, who has effected all the run outs.I'm recording this and am going to enjoy watching it back :D Even if the aussies win. 157-6

Tbh Fats,we are going to have to do it ourselves,we have those two games against India before the April cut off point,if we win those we should qualify automatically [although its a big IF :-))( ].
Fair play to Sri lanka though, before they played in this V.B series they were on an awful run, then they have to play the two top sides in the world,no one gave them a hope in hell, but they've got to the finals and won one of them.Hopefully they lose the next two though ,oh and if Pakistan could win the series against India 3-0,that would help too.

 Yep,your right.Shit, wishful thinking on my part i guess. That means that the Indians have got four more games than us,which could be good or could be bad.If they win all those games it would be shit for us,but if they lose them all :)  That fucking ODI table :x ,keeps things a bit interesting though i suppose.

"If India finish outside the top six, then the sixth placed team will take part in the premilinary round" Because they are hosting the fucking thing.Premilinary round here we come, its our own fault for being rubbish i'm afraid, and you can't argue with the fact that the Sri lankans have played damn well.
I have to agree Spuddy,i can't wait to get in and watch todays game :) Especially watching Punter get out :soapy tit wank:

Yes,its all my fault  ,i've just got fixated on the whole concept of how awful and tiring it would be for us to have to qualify. So worried had i become that i actually wanted the convicts to win for fucks sake, what is wrong with me :wanker:
Rest assured it all changed today and it won't happen again, come on the Sri Lankans :)  They are only pointless odis anyway, not as if its the Ashes is it?

Passed me by, but the Aussies thrashed Sri Lanka by 167 runs in the 2nd final. Centuries from Ponting and Symonds.

When's the 3rd final?

I think it was me Fats  I took your hand and we skipped down the path together  But no more.We had a chance to get ourselves out of the qualification and we haven't done it,its our own fault.Anyway i don't know what will happen or who we will have to play,it could just be one game. We'll find out in April.

I think its the first time since 97/98,that the VB series has gone to three games. The final final is on Tuesday.Come on the Sri lankans :)

well at least the consolation of seeing the Aussies win is that Sri Lanka lose .. but are they still gonna be below us?

BTW

Pakistan set a nice 288 against India ... I still want India to lose so they are on poor form for our tour

Latest table http://www.icc-cricket.com/odi/

On the Indian tour,i heard on Sky yesterday that the Indian board haven't sorted out the rights for the coverage yet.I'm hoping that Sky are bidding, but its not long to go now and it hasn't been sorted out yet :-))( I don't think its going to be on the radio either :(

theres a predictor - basically with Sri Lanka .. if they lose to Aussies they will be on 108 same as us

if they win they will be on 110 points

they DONT have another match so then it will be up to us to win BOTH the one day matches v India i guess ... never gonna happen is it!

At least its in our own hands, even if Sri lanka win i guess.

I would presume that the pre-qualification would be a mini tournament in itself. With the bottom four in the ICC table and then some other teams like Scotland,Ireland,USA,Kenya et al.
