It was brilliant.

Not as good as Wayne Hatswell's in the FA Cup a few years back though. They were still talking about that on MOTD last Saturday.

The most skillfull own goal ever though.

Oh here's another contender.

Gary Elkins whips in a good cross from the left wing and David Holdsworth from about 15 years out gets on the end of it with a superb diving header to send the ball into the top corner right in front of the Town End.

Was that against Ipswich in about 1989 Boeta. If it is then that was a superb og. Everyone singing sign him on, classic moment.

That was Micky Stockwell....who may have still been playing for ColU up to about  a couple of years ago.....

Best one i've seen , we break from their corner Stockwell is trying to get back goal side, when the ball is whipped over about 40 yards from goal and he just sticks a foot on it and it loops in..

I suppose from a Town point of view the best OG ever must have been Arthur Bellamy of Burnley in the 69 LC semi.

In typical town fashion in the 3rd game we're 1-0 up concede in the last minute, then again in the first minute of extra time........then just before the end of first half extra, we have good pressure on Burnley, a cross comes in and Bellamy in an effort to clear shanks it into his own goal from about 8 yards.

Perhaps not aesthetically the best, but the most important.

Yesterday's own goal was like a classic Peter Beardsley late 80's early 90's goal....

...but at the wrong end.  Love it when scousers lose.

I've only ever scored one own goal, in the annual Compton Bassett 23 a side Boxing Day match, played on a farmers field, as flat as a bumpy mine field.  The ball came over from a corner hit me and went in.  I was gutted.  My mates and brother loved it, bastards!!!

Saw an amazing own goal in 1999, i think? It was Chievo's first season in Serie A, and i think it was against Lazio. Chievo won 3-0, but the best own goal and one of the best goals i have ever seen happened.

Chievo were breaking forward, left to right as i saw it, and a midfielder out on the left midway between the half way line and box was about to play the ball across the pitch to about 25 yrds from goal, and level with the right side of the 18 yrd box. Noone was their but there was a forward running through with a defender at his side.

He hit it alongthe gorund at pace, the defender had already seen what was about to happen with someone breaking to hopefully receive this ball (although miles out) the defender lashed at it while in full stride from about 25-30 yrs. He completely miss hit it as he was trying to hoof it out of play, anyway he hit it with the out side of his boot. He lobbed the keeper and bent it in to the top corner from about 25-30 yards, it was spectacular.

Holdsworth did the unusual feat of scoring an OG in two different matches, they may have been in consecutive seasons.

Yesterday i forgot about the legendary Steve Vickers OG in the PO semi of 93.......staright from the ko none of this hoof it out of play, but we work it out to Nicky Summerbee who bends in a wicked near post cross and Vickers heads it into his own goal after about 45 secs.

Another curio worth a mention was the 2 OG's scored by Arsenal, John Hollins and Willie Young when we beat them 4-3 in 79 in LC quarter final.....both headers into the TE goal, when balls wer crossed into the box by Ian Miller and Animal .

Traore's turn was sublime! He'd been dreaming of that moment for years and it didn't matter what goal it was scored in! Maybe not, I've never seen such a sulky look on a player after he did that!

Lee Dixon's? Wasn't that in the days of the backpass and he lobs the keeper from miles out?

Wayne Hatswell: What's funniest about that own goal is Oxford United saw that as a good reason to sign him a week or so later!!!!

There's some cracking Own Goals on the Soccer AM DVD, watched it at work a few weeks ago.
