Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 20, 2006, 09:52:05 It's that time of the year where my Norton Antivirus subscription runs out and instead of simply renewing it I'm thinking of getting a different antivirus or maybe a whole internet security suite and stop using zonealarm for my firewall.
I've seen Pc-Cillin Internet Security 2006 for £25. Anyone know if this is any good? Or can people recommend any other good antivirus/internet security software? Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: Sippo on Friday, January 20, 2006, 09:55:18 try AVG free. Can be found at grisoft.com.

Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: land_of_bo on Friday, January 20, 2006, 10:00:31 I could always upload my hacked copy of Norton with the key generator. Use the keygen to activate the software by phone, and when it runs out at the end of the year simply re-install and repeat the registration process...
Zonealarm is gay. Which router do you use? Does that not have a firewall? All I use at home is the router & windows firewall and NAV Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 20, 2006, 10:00:55 My dad pays for it so I'm not really bothered if it's free or not. That said, my dad isn't likely to pay more than £30 for it.
If you want Norton free you can get a 100year subscription hack (that's what my mate did) so he has had it free for years! Only trouble is my laptop is technically my dad's and he doesn't like pirated subscriptions so that was a no go. Just reading pc cillin reviews now and they're pretty mixed. The free antivirus programs are nowhere near as good as their purchased counterparts (from pretty much every review I've read) so I'm not too keen on that idea. Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: McLovin on Friday, January 20, 2006, 10:03:26 I have McAfee. It never seems to find viruses, but then i don't have any infections either so i can't tell if it's good or not. :|
Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: land_of_bo on Friday, January 20, 2006, 10:03:46 In that case I'd just stick with Norton then to be honest. I tried Mcafee internet security suite but it was shite and I went back to norton. Its only about £16 to renew the licence for a year isn't it?
PC-Cillin is OK - it's made by Trend and I use Trend for my corporate anti-virus - never have any problems with it and its running on ever 200 workstations and 30 odd servers.... Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 20, 2006, 10:07:15 Norton is £20 to renew I think.

Yeah AVG is free and is your best bet. It needs updating every week, but it does it automatically. Other very good protection progams that you could simply download are programs such as Spybot Search and Destroy, Microsoft AntiSpyware and Ad-Aware SE Personal. These are all very good and secure programs that you can download for free. I will try find the site. Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: Simon Pieman on Friday, January 20, 2006, 12:39:29 I have spybot and adaware. What's the difference between AVG free version and pro version?

Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: Sippo on Friday, January 20, 2006, 17:49:28 AVG Pro is more advanced than the free version. The free one does the job but obviously the pro one is more spohisticated.

Make sure you are not connected to the internet run the setup program as normal when asked for the serial no open the keygen.exe and generate the code when asked to activate let it try the online method twice, it will fail then give you the option to activate by phone, choose this option Use the key generator to generate the phone challenge code, it will then activate for 12 months You can now connect back to the internet and run all the updates as normal - it'll take a few updates and reboots to get bang up to date When it runs out uninstall and do the same Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: Dazzza on Tuesday, January 24, 2006, 20:55:36 For Spyare HitMan Pro is the best on the market incorporates all of the other programs out there.

I tend to run spyware checks every so often just in case, but the best way of being safe is to just be careful of what you install. You'll always get a few tracker cookies, but generally they are pretty harmful, but you can avoid most of the major ones by not installing stuff like kazaa (although there is a klite version which is ok), getright, etc. Title: Antivirus/Internet Security software Post by: Simon Pieman on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, 00:21:09 I also use hijack this which is ever so useful once you figure out how to use it (or get whits to explain) 8)
