JUNKIE Dexter Piper wanted to buy some cannabis. But when he went to a dealers' house he was greeted by a policeman in uniform who was investigating drug dealing. And Piper told the officer he was there to buy cannabis. When arrested he told the police he had no drugs on him but in fact had six wraps of crack cocaine. Piper, 22, was given a six-month jail term at Swindon Crown Court. But because he has been in custody since August he walked free from court. Philip Warren, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court: "On August 28 the police were executing a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at an address in Swindon. "This defendant came to the door which was answered by a policeman in uniform. The defendant said that he had come to buy some cannabis." "He said he had no drugs on him but as he was being searched a package containing six small wraps fell from him." He was interviewed by the police and said that the drugs were for his own use and that he had paid £60 for them. Piper, of Quested Court, Hackney, north London, was pleaded guilty to straight possession. Jonathan Simpson, defending, said that his client had no previous convictions and had always admitted having the drugs. He said that he had spent three and a half months on remand in custody and had used that time to get himself clean of crack cocaine.
