Really. Why not red?

Indeed  8)

I assume it may have just been ticketing issues for the colours?

I believe one of the stands at Anfeld was like that, maybe some imitation going on (i might be wrong on either count though).  Can anyone suggest why there was the large drop at the front that was only filled in circa 1991/2, I think Bristol city did similar to one of their stands more recently.

I always assumed that the North Stand seats were multi-coloured because everytime a club left its old stadium to move to a new one we'd buy up a job load of the seats from the old ground  .It explains the bins in the South stand anyway :)

because it was built behind the remains of the old north stand (which can be seen in that picture - minus the roof).

That picture is strange. Did'nt realise how much the county ground changed.

The seats were different colours, because the blue and green being ends were cheaper, now of course they're all the same cost...that's progress for you.

It also shows quite clearerly how the pitch was quite a bit longer, and the goals nearer the crowd....players were fitter back then, so could cover the bigger pitch, not like todays pansies. :old:

Just look at the Stratton Bank, those were the days.  8)

Where is the segregation fence on the bank? I cant see it.

I dont think anyone was especially bothered what colours the seats were back then. It was just such a luxury to have seats that no one seemed to notice. Ibrox had red, green, yellow, even brown and pink seats in the 80's!

I honestly thought the coloured seats were still there :o

Goes to show how much attention I pay!

When did they go?

I was a bit disappointed when the seats were put in front of the Arkells, that they ddin't completely fill it in, but left the scruffy looking ends open...surely wouldn't have taken much.

They have gradually replaced a lot of seats over the seasonswith Red ones.  The old coloured ones were pretty flimsy plastic, as still seen in the Yellow section up by the away fans these days.  The problem was that the rain and wind go into the North Stand so they kept loosing colour and falling to pieces.  I think the big coverage in red happened when the Nationwide was buitl (but I could be wrong on that one).

I remember sitting in the wooden seats above the terracing in Shrivy Rd for my first game!

The segregation wasn't in place yet for this photo, which I guess is taken not long before crowd trouble started at grounds.

The colourful seats are horribly uncomfortable, definitely worth avoiding imo!

I think stadiums with one colour are much better looking but right now they can all be yellow if we get a new ground built for all i care!

I remember them putting the extra seats in front of the North Stand in 92-93.

I like pictures like that, takes me back a long time. Haven't sat in the North Stand for about 15 years now, was normally a Orange Seat person.

Also stood in the Town End, Shrivenham Road, Stratton Bank etc, covered most places in the ground. Bring back Shrivenham Road! Standing was so much better.

Is it the first or second photo you refer to, as the second was taken in 2004.

Trouble started at the CG aand probably elsewhere around 66/67, just after England won the WC.

1st one Reg.  Was talking about the block up the back which were replaced en masse I think.  They had the colour coding for ticker prices.  I once got sold a seat that was actually an aisle in the Yellow section!  A steward came over to us and told me I was in the wrong seat (in a crowd of just under 3000)!  I had to show him where my seat was supposed to be before he'd go away - no change there then.

I used to sit in a blue seat but I think it changed to red one year, dunno though. The first couple of rows of seats in the top tier bit were new seats and then after that they were all shite old ones.

Those seats were condemned by the time I started to go. It lookesd a bit lethal I have to say.

Maybe it's just nostelga, but I miss the old Shrivvy Road stand even though I never went in there before it was demolished.

Edit: actually, looking at the B&W pic again it looks all wrong. That can't be the same South stand that the current incumbant replaced, can it?

The current NS was built behind the old NS to enable it's use while construction was still ongoing.  Once they finished the current NS, the removed the old NS and we were left with the gap you refer to.  This was then re-filled in some 20 years after it was originally removed.

No it isn't. The green shrivenham road stand before the current one was from Aldeshot I believe.  Was good standing then,  there was a time i'd have to get in at 1.30 to stand at the front with a crate - now that's  8)

no its not, that was there before the old green shrivvy road stand, which came from aldershot tattoo ground as dogs rightly pointed out.

the way i wrote that last post didnt help, i meant i dont have any decent pics of shrivvy road, but that b&w one was the best i have of the CG.
