Some kind of funds isnt very specific. All it will be is the loan player wages we have freed up, you have to remember Cureton coming back has taken a chunk of that plus with them all being young it wouldnt have been alot.

Kev always struck as one who did tho (thats how he ended up back at West Ham!).. always gave 100 percent and as it went so badly at Ipswich he might want to end his career where it started  .. we can but hope!

Hes been released and hes getting on a bit,he will realise that he will have to take a wage cut hes not stupid.If he wants to play an extra year then its obvious that it will be in the lower leagues and the money will be less.

Its stupid to constantly pipe up with 'we cant afford him'.No one knows that because no one knows how much money he wants if in fact he wants to carry on playing.Chance are he may have had enough by now and just retire also he might not be the player we need.Obviously hes not going to be the same player that he was all those years ago.

Players like this only even get suggested on past glory same as what happened with Sumberbee.For what its worth I feel he would give the place a lift but the fact is I havent really seen him play in 10 years.For all I know I could be better than him these days.

Everyone thought that we wouldnt be able to afford Thorpe or Cureton, let alone both of them, as wages had just been slashed and the attedances last season werent any better than what we have seen this season, but we still managed to sign the two of them. So maybe we can do the same with Horlock?
I very much doubt we will get him though, but it would be nice....

Kevin Horlock reminds me of Kevin Watson. Same playing style.

Horlock never played as well for anyone else a part from us.

  All available evidence suggests, that unless you return to a club fairly swiftly , a year away tops.....then it usually doesn't work out a second time.

He also scored against County on his debut.  It was actually 1992.   Ironically he scored it with his right foot.  Ironic because he is possibly the most left footed player I have ever seen.

Ah, it was the 92 match I was thinking of.  When we won 5-1 and Kev scored a screamer!  That was his debt, in for an injured Bodin, who was at the Swansea game by the way.

Fair point.....I did suggest fairly swiftly....Quinny was 2 years...which probably qualifies, Kammy at 4 years is the exception that proves the rule.....KH must have been gone 7/8 years now....not likely to be anything like the player some may remember.

thats true Reg. but he's been playing at championship/premiership level since he left us and the step down to league one may not prove that difficult

i think strengthening the midfield with someone like horlock would be awesome. then pook can go back to making tea and cleaning boots. stef and super kev in the central midfield would be quite a formidable partnership i feel.

whether he'd want to come back would be another question. and whether we could afford a quality player aswell...

i think we should all chip in £20 a month each to get kev back...i'm even willing to go into the bank to stop my £5 a month to some blind kids and look like a cunt to do it

 Mcmahon 40 odd games in a 4 year playing contract.

  Hoddle played in second flight having dropped from Le Championat.

 Mooney I'll concede successfully dropped from L1 to L2 in his 30's.

I am just saying that those players dropped one division or more and were successful.  McMahon may have only played 40 games out of a four year contract but they were 40 pretty impressive games. It wasn't his fault he got injured and it was in no small part down to his playing prowess that we pissed division 2 in 95-96.

Definitely Culverhouse. Best defender we've ever had IMO.

I suppose Reeves did ok at the level we are now at but in div 1/Championship level he was out of his depth.

In his way yes, I would say Culverhouse was better. He was a different sort of defender to Fridge and Shaun Taylor who were very much of the traditional British 'blood and thunder' variety (and both excellent servants to the club)

Culverhouse was more subtle in that he wasn't happy just winning a tackle, he would slide in, take the ball away from his opponents toes, come away with the ball and play a simple pass to McMahon or Horlock or O'Sullivan or whoever and we'd be back on the attack again. He didn't even really look much like a centre half but very little got past him.

Much as I loved the Fridge, the original OST and Tim Parkin, I've not seen better than Culverhouse.

Hear hear!  He was an idol of mine growing up supporting the town, and in my youth i always tried to perfect the Culverhouse slide tackle.

Then i got fat and lazy, and quickly switched to what is now known as 'The Lucas Neill'...

 All of these dropped down from the top flight or thereabouts into the second flight......which is still quite a high standard of football.....one of the axioms of the game is that its easy to look good with good players around you, which is why the likes of Phil Neville get over 50 England caps, put him in our side and he'd look even worse than he does at Everton.

I think that was also the only day that I was pleased that Oxford won beating Blackpool 1-0 with Joey Beachamp scoring a late winner as that meant we went back above Blackpool back to the top of the table. Unfortunately I didn't know then that Blackpool would just fall away and Oxford would nick the 2nd promotion place.

I remember his hat trick in championship winning season, against Brizzle Rovers!!!!! Quality!
