Title: Sending a parcel
Post by: Boeta on Thursday, January 5, 2006, 17:02:15
i'm gonna try and sell an andrew flintoff dvd i got for xmas that i already have on ebay. however, i've never sent a dvd and i know i might look like a thick prick here but i presume it will cost more to send than a normal stamp and the the envelope might need to be reinforced with something (that bubbles stuff??). How do I do this? If i take it to the post office will they sort it out for me?

as you can see i really have no idea, so any help would be appreciated

it will cost about 75p first class (not recorded)

dvds are safe just in brown paper, or you can splash out on a dvd-size jiffy bag which they can sell you in the post office for about 35p

Yep. but anything expensive i would highly advise sending it special.

If normal post or recorded then you have no come back if it goes missing.

I have actually leggett  :D

Specials are 'sectioned off' though and treated with abit more respect.

I'm a packet sorter at my office and know how their tossed into the drop bags and crushed unlike a special.

if your selling it on ebay the customer pays the cost of delivery so i would put it into a Jifi bag and send it special delivery.
That way the customer know he will get it and it will definitely arrive.

no point just sending first class. special delivery all the way.

you can claim up to £30 with recorded, so he'd be alright for sending a dvd

if your selling it on ebay the customer pays the cost of delivery

it depends on what you specified in the listing.

basically if you're paying for it, send it 1st class (75p) and maybe give them the option of upgrading if they pay extra

if they are, ask them if they want recorded or special delivery. you'll need to fill out a form

Oxford fan, im a postman so listen.

Recorded is JUST normal post that requires a signature. It gets chucked into mail bags and tossed about and has alot of other packets chucked on top.

A special is guaranteed the next day before 1pm

They are segregated from all other post and are scanned into every office they arrive at and leave.

They are not sorted at a delivery office but go into whats called a locker where their sorted into different delivery rounds.

Ultra safe.

Recorded is just normal post with a signature.

mate i've posted about 200 items that i've sold off ebay via 1st class, no probs.

cds, dvds, etc

like leggett says amazon and play ship all their stuff via the same service.

if the buyer is willing to pay the extra for special, then fine but certainly don't send items via specia delivery as standard at your own expense, its silly business

I'd say put it in a a Jiffi bag that's been used before..and tape a new address over the top...go to the PO and say I'd like to send this and put it on the scale thing, on the counter....the assistanrt will then tell you the cost and provide the necessary stampage in return for the apppropriate coinage....afix the stamp or stamps to the package, and either the assistant will tale it over the counter for you, or post it in an appropriate letter box.

My dad used to sell loads of dvds every week on ebay. He would just send it normal first class but he would send it in a jiffy bag. If it gets lost you can claim back the cost anyway. Recorded/special delivery isn't a good idea, because if the recipient isn't in then they have to re-organise delivery and they often won't like that. I guess it all depends on if you care about your feedback on ebay.

You missed your chance there then!, he still shouldnt leave it under the car. If he's put a card through the door the lazy fuck should take it back to the delivery office.
