Post by: oxford_fan on Tuesday, January 3, 2006, 16:37:07
i currently have a 1.1 fiesta.

my gran has offered me her 1.6 civic coupe automatic for free, W reg.

the civic adds £260 onto my premium but i will get this back from selling my fester. any long term considerations i should make? my dad tells me automatics are v.expensive to fix but hondas don't go wrong too often do they?

Honda's are VERY reliable

I'm on my 2nd Type R and drive it like i stole it everyday  :soapy tit wank:

The engines are bulletproof mate, just keep it topped up with oil and serviced regular and you've nothing to worry about.

i've never driven an auto, are they much different to manuals in terms of performance? i presume i won't be able to rag it about so much, but thats probably a good thing as the servicing on my fiesta has been massive!

I drove an Automatic in Australia which was huge fun, although granted it was a 4.0l Ford Mondeo equivalent saloon (no, I wasn't legal....).  The kick-down is immense and good fun, though you don't have the control of a manual in certain situations.  It's hard to argue why I'd prefer a manual to an automatic, but I just do.....   :?

Maybe it's just a matter of personal preference, and how good you are with you're left foot?!...

You do lose a little performance on auto boxes unless it's a BMW SMG box.

If it's a good gearbox like a Honda then it will be very smooth.
