Title: Charles Burkowski
Post by: Amir on Friday, December 30, 2005, 17:01:57
Anyone on here a fan of his work?  Reg?

I've just finished Ham On Rye and thought it was superb, much superior to Post Office which I also enjoyed.  I love the conversational style and the grittiness of his stories.  Was told before that there was another author of the same time who Burkowski was supposed to have stolen his style from, can't remember for the life of me what the guys name was.  S something?

Could be Sinclair Lewis whose Main Street was an influence

I'm pretty sure the surname started with S, but I might check that out as well.  Cheers, adje.

I'd ask the guy who told me but he appears to have gone a bit mental and won't answer his phone to anyone.

I wish I could contribute to the debate, but its not an author I've even heard of let alone read.
