Left by mutual consent:

And we saved a bit of money (probably only paid up 20 weeks of the remaining 30 weeks on his contract or something....)

Sounds like we haven't had to pay him up in full either, not that we would have.  A shame, becasue he coyuld have been an assett to us, not a shame beacsue he didn't appear to make any effort, and really showed no interest when he played.  Good luck, but don't come back to haunt us!

He was my favourite player.  That's it I'm not going back to the County Ground anymore, fuck the lot of them.  Thorpey's been made a scapegoat here, Iffy needs to sort himself out.  I'm fucking livid about this.

Without his presence we're going down, RIP STFC!!!

I'd have really hoped we haven't paid him much more than a month or two in wages after all the eventuality was he should have been off in just under a month when the transfer window opens anyway.

I’d be rather miffed if we had paid him much beyond much beyond that after all he’s now got four weeks steal on everyone else to find a club and secure a contract.

What a shocker he’s had though?

Ineffective rather than just generally crap is the closest I’d get to describing Tony Thorpe’s spell here.

Was six league starts really enough though to see the best from a striker who was desperately lacking in match practice before the season even started?

I think it was just an accumulative downward spiral from the off.  Poor preparation pre-season, futile front pairing with Cureton, unsuitable style of play, fall-outs with the gaffer and the head all to quickly dropping and the commitment and passion drained away.

I do get the feeling that he’s not much of a relegation dogfighter but perhaps again that’s down to style of play that usually transpires more than anything else.

My checklist for the inevitable new striker Iffy brings in during the transfer window is an experienced, big, vicious bruiser of a striker.  A Dean Windass, Luke Beckett no nonsense thug.

Dazza Spot on we need a player that you hate when the opposition have, like Windass, and what Mooney was.  If th Franchise rumour is true (just cos he lives in MK?) then the risk of him coming back to haunt us is huge!

It's true though, how much did our ineffective pre-season and lack of matches affect our season, you know what they say failure to prepare...

If true I think he'll unfortunately do very well at Dongs.

They're play just the sort of football you'd expect him to thrive on and have a bit more than hoofball in their repertory.

We haven't got many strikers now.

When Bouazza leaves in January, it leaves only Fallon and Roberts.
Iffy gonna have to find a bargain.

Bring back Cureton and take a gamble on Matt Tubbs from Salisbury...he's being scoring loads recently, is quick and is still only 20 ish.

Wooooo  :D  good news that. But maybe we should have sent him out on loan in january, or possibly even sold him?
Nevermind, he was probably on a lot of money a week anyway, so the best decision was to let him go. At least it frees up some funds  :)

It also says on the official site that he scored a goal in a Carling Cup match against Wycombe, when it was against Oldham that he scored unless I am mistaken.

You wouldn't expect them to get something like this right, bit like the Adver, what do they do all day....its not that hard to research facts.

And Mooney would prefer to stay at Wycombe adje I'm sure as they look certs to get promoted this season.

Not keen at all on Mooney a step backwards and looks to be a dwindling power.

Jon Parkin of Macclesfield, you'll do for me.

A big striker at 6'4 with a real physical presence and also rather adept with the ball at his feet.  He clocked 24 goals propelling an average Macc Lads side into the playoffs last season and has two in four this term although he’s been limited by an injury, which he should be back from shortly.

Also rather a versatile chap he can and has played at centre back in the past before being punted as more of an out and out striker.

Contract is up in the summer, Macclesfield languishing in the table and a widely accepted inevitable departure in January makes it at least feasible.

All would depend on what sort off fee Macclesfield are after at the end of the day but you’d have to hope it’s not beyond the realms of  being a possibility

You’re quite right Reg but I'm working on the faint hope that the "resources for a couple of players" may stretch beyond loan players possibly from a fee for Cureton and the cash saved from the accumulated departure of Thorpe and whoever else is off in the transfer window.

I know more hope of hell freezing over

Iffy mentions a small cash saving on Thorpe....but he's obviously taken a lump sum of say 5 months wages when he could have hung about and got say 7.

Its money though that will have gone out of the pot, and there aren't too many tasty fixtures on the horizon. , to replenish it.

The fact that he didn't score goals for us is vindictive of our awful long-ball style, not Thorpes striking ability.

He's a free agent but all clubs have passed the deadline for signing anyone except 'emergancy' loans, and on this occassion they actually mean emergancy, not like before the deadline.
