Anyway.....

1. Freddie Flintoff
2. Ellen MacArthur Glen
3. Steven Gerrard

Always going to be them in that order really, thoroughly deserved by all 3 mind. It was 4am in Pakistan when they interviewed Freddie, he looked absolutely shattered! 8)

It was rubbish this year - too much sentiment and cheese rather than playing clips of sports footage  :(

It's been like that for the last few years - note the name change.

It used to be "Sports Review of the Year" which incorporated the personality award.

It's now "Sports Personality of the Year" - its become an awards ceremony and is nothing to do with sport anymore.

It's been getting worse for years, and this year was the worst yet...

The BBC haven't got a lot of footage to show either :-))(
I was just relieved that the England boys won team of the year and Freddie won, because after the performance in Pakistan i thought they might not win :-))( .

That's not really an issue - for example they showed a bit of F1 footage and just added "Courtesy of F! management" or something to the bottom.

They do have the footage from the other broadcasters, but they choose not to use it (although some things may be unreasonable to show - ie Jonny Wilkinson's dropgoal from the WC Final last year - £10,000 per showing by the image owners   )

Agreed - he was the best spender of the year, but not the best coach - should have been Fletcher (where money makes no difference!)

I missed the first bit and watched Top Gear instead...
and because it overran I missed the end cos I was watching Lost...

So I didn't see too much either, but what I did see was the usual Poo and Gary Lineker.

Highlight of the Lineker night:
"Ellen MacArthy"
"I'd wish you well Shane, but I won't"
"I'm a twat"

ITV have signed him for F1, to replace Jim 'punchable scummer' Rosenthal, who is concentrating on Footy and Boxing (although he was pretty poor at that too), Linekar is going to do all the golf on the beeb now, I assume he will still do the big footy too.

Excellent - Jim Rosenthal (the Count) was crap for the F1

I think that's fair enough. Winning the premiership is definitely better than winning the champions league, England didn't win the 6 nations and I think winning the Ashes was mainly down to the players. Plus it's personality and Mourinho is a great personality.

The Premiership is just a stepping stone to winning the Champs League, surely Ben?

mourinho has clearly had more impact this year in everything he has done than rafa benitez, there's really no argument whatsoever

if it was benitez vs mourinho anyone that said benitez is probably just trying to be clever and anti chelsea- which seems like the new anti man u.

The premiership is much harder to win than the champions league,  you have to perform for a whole season not just a ferw matches and the standard of opposition is often higher, the premiership is the ultimate prize in English football, winning the champions league is just a bonus.

5th place for Liverpool last year was pretty poor and although they have improved this year Mourinho has clearly had a far more impressive year, winning two trophies.

My favourite bit is always the highly impressive list of British world champions - no disrepect to the people involved, but how much competition is there to be world champion in wheelchair curling???

Quite right.....its because the Beeb doesn't have the rights to any decent sports anymore.

To be fair I haven't watchd it for years, as I detected this trend, but this time I thought because of the cricket I'd tune in.....

  .....doubt I'll bother next year.
