Title: Wise Men Say Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 19:27:21 Can anyone tell me why we sing this?
I have heard Preston, Sunderland and Dundee United singing it recently also, have they copied us? Title: Wise Men Say Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 19:29:57 no. its a song that has been sang on the terraces of many clubs over the years. its more than likely we are copying someone else
Title: Wise Men Say Post by: Sippo on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 19:30:01 I think its just a song that goes around the grounds. Don't think it was just our song?
Title: Wise Men Say Post by: Spencer_White on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 19:31:28 Not to mention Boston, Sheff Weds and Hull.
I think Sunderland have a claim to it. Maybe Hull too. But the rest can fook off. Title: Wise Men Say Post by: Elsterap on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 19:37:15 I always thought it was Wise Men Sing?
Title: Wise Men Say Post by: reeves4england on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 19:37:44 There are a few that sing it, but I think only WE use it as our adopted song

Best one by a mile in my opinion is Delilah at Stoke. Title: Wise Men Say Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 19:38:58 Quote from: "Elsterap" I always thought it was Wise Men Sing? 'Wise Men Say, only fools rush in, but I can't help falling in love with you'. Elvis and UB40 I believe? (and STFC!) Title: Wise Men Say Post by: reeves4england on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 19:40:21 Yep, UB40 is the one they always play I think

Title: Wise Men Say Post by: Reg Smeeton on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 19:44:22 Historically up til around the early 60's.....the STFC anthem was To be a Farmer's Boy.
This was the marching song of Wilts regiments....so was widely known and sung at the CG. http://www.farmersboys.com/Songs_and_Poems/farmers_boy.htm The music is there somewhere as well. Title: Wise Men Say Post by: reeves4england on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 19:48:14 You can always rely on Reg!
Title: Wise Men Say Post by: Mexicano Rojo on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 20:10:03 we should start singing farmers boy again

Title: Wise Men Say Post by: Johno on Thursday, December 8, 2005, 21:31:46 a good old song of wise men say in a packed town end when swindon are winning isn't too bad.

In the 1950's I cannot remember any music at the CG except military band- type march music, wonder if that was the case. Title: Wise Men Say Post by: mattboyslim on Friday, December 9, 2005, 08:48:58 I like Goodnight Irene that rovers sing, that's a bit unique. I'm guessing that it's a bit like how you'll never walk alone started. When music first got played over the tannoy fans used to sing along, and the music stuck at some clubs if the tune seemed appropriate.
Title: Wise Men Say Post by: land_of_bo on Friday, December 9, 2005, 08:51:32 I thought we nicked wise men say from Notts Forrest?
