Title: Duncan Shearer Post by: Bedford Red on Thursday, December 1, 2005, 22:45:20 Non League in Scotland. Probably like our Conference but no automatic promotion to the league like we have.
Which is a shame as there are some good sides in the Highland League who would do much better than some of the sides in Div 2/3 etc in Scotland. Title: Duncan Shearer Post by: reeves4england on Thursday, December 1, 2005, 22:59:32 Okay. So the standard is probably worse than the conference then?

Probably like our Conference but no automatic promotion to the league like we have. Which is a shame as there are some good sides in the Highland League who would do much better than some of the sides in Div 2/3 etc in Scotland. The Highland League covers the North of Scotland (Highland & Aberdeenshire). All Highland League teams are eligible to enter the Scottish FA Cup. Teams can be elected to the Scottish League, as happened with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Ross County, Peterhead and Elgin City. These teams have all been relatively successful, with Inverness now in the Scottish Premier League, Ross County in Division 1, Peterhead in Division 2 and Elgin City being a mid-table Division 3 team. This tends to suggest that the level of the top clubs in the Highland League is actually higher than that of the Scottish League Division 3, and there have been a number of victories by Highland League teams over Scottish League opposition over the years to further enhance the status of the Highland League. But still, no automatic promotion to the Scottish League. . Like our conference should be three up, three down at least Title: Duncan Shearer Post by: janaage on Friday, December 2, 2005, 09:02:06 Big Dunc was class. I used to remember my old man slating him for 88 minutes for doing nothing, looking lazy, in some drab 0-0 showing, then up pops Shearer from no where, 1-0 Town get in there.
