To be fair I think GCSE's are a complete waste of time. They are easy and getting easier. They dont mean anything at A-level/University level. I did about 2 days revision for each subject because they were during France 98. Seems to me all the different boards compete for who can supply the easiest paper. I thought A-level would be a piece of piss too. :jaw1 Not so. University is full of people like me who got there on the back of top GCSE's despite not getting their A-level 'entry requirements' (whatever they were). They wanted my money, not students with intellect. Left after 18 months. As a career move it was a complete waste of time. As a life experience it was invaluable.
