Anyone played much recently?

Just nailed 8th in a freeroll of 750.  Won $68 but it  seems a pitiful amount given the amount of entrants, may have to start playing more cash tourneys.

Better than a kick in the teeth as they say.

Not played for a couple of weeks due to skintness/busyness. Also I managed to go from a $50 deposit to $7 then back to $80. Cashed out my original $50 then lost the remaining $30 on 2 bad beats. The wonders of cash tables.

Most of the successful players tend to have a bankroll like you Si.

Say $100 in at the start of the week and then play a set amount each night to a set target.

Just trying to develop the patience really.

My luck is down at the mo! I do like to think im a good player but I just dont have enough time to play! Try Bet 365 poker rooms for some easy opposition!

Just played my first real money tournament in real life against some people form the Cardiff Uni pool society.

Standard was fucking high, really tight players. There was 4 tables of 7 people, all knew how to play one guy had won $5,000 in a $100 buy-in tournament on pokerroom the other day.

Everyone started with £5 and I worked my way up to £15 but I was down to my last £1 8th out of 8 people and I was small blind which was £1 too so went all in and won. Then the next hand 3 people on the other table went all-in, two lost so I made it to the money and the final table which was the last 6 by just hanging on. :)

Then despite going all in 10-15 times I worked my way back up to £20, took out a couple of people who were way ahead of me before eventually going out in 4th.

Thing started at 7pm, finished at 1am. I won £15 for 4th. :advercool:

im going to start playing down my local. they are holding poker games every thursday now  :D

How's your grasp of different player types and spotting 'tells' Si me old mucker?

That's been my target of late trying to improve my judgement of player types and looking for the tells in their game.  

Tonight I won that little lot pretty much off one player who I'd labelled as an 'aggressive-loose' sort of chap.  Real cocky fucker too which was an added bonus.  

He constantly re-raised anything even after he checked after the flop.  Nailed him on a slow play pocket aces and 9's after he tried to steal the pot with all-in's.   8)

Normally I browse on here or watch TV waiting for a decent hand to come up but tonight I concentrated on the action for a change.

I met a full-timer the other day.  Not professional but makes on average between £300-£800 a week.  Had some cracking advice to share.

Yeah when I'm playing for money I don't have any distractions and I seem to play a lot better. I rarely bluff with the cash games, sometimes semi bluff but I find that people call all the way to the river most of the time (at least one).

My reads were getting alot better, but I'm out of practice now.

A lot of it was what to watch for in other player’s games and the like.

He works on a weekly bankroll and treats it as much as possible as his job.  He’ll sit down play a daily set limit and as soon as he’s reached his quota he’ll quit or have a crack at a tournament game.

He does use two PC’s side by side but said this was more for an insurance policy and to increase the odds pre-flop rather than give himself an edge in play.

Patience was the biggest factor he said that made the difference.

Patience is where I slip up im afraid,that greed and lack on concentration.I can do well for an hour or so then up the tables .I know its not the way  I just cant help it.

Get fuck all for an hour, decent hand and some cheecky fuck raises all in.

Calling it quits now. Bit of a mixed bag with the limit game so went for some pot limit action. Patience was key and eventually went all in on a hand to double my money. Ended up with $21.15 from starting on $10.05. Works out just over £5 sterling per hour played so can't complain and cured my insomnia too.

This is the guy i was playing poker against a couple of weeks ago. He finished 5th though and I knocked him out and finished 4th mwahahaahaa. :twisted:

He's won about $10,000 real money though, lucky fucker.

I went down $10 the other day and called it quits. Couldn't scare someone off a remote straight draw chance on the river, despite my $5 bet  :-))(

Win some/lose some I guess, but this bloke rarely called to the river on a draw unless it was a free bet  :evil:

I play a fair amount. I've certainly improved in the last few months (mainly by reading up more and taking advice from players who have entered a few big tournaments). Give it a couple more years and i'll be a pro  8)  :wink:

Fiver up last night, not that impressive really.  Burnt almost all of my £27.00 stake early on with two glaring errors down to lack of concentration but made it back up with hard, aggressive tight play.

Pulled a House off the flop, played it weak with an initial check the other player had 3 QQQ and pushes it up with a raise of a couple of quid.

Limp in after a lot of thinking time and call his raise.  He bets five on the river I push it immidiately to ten, he thinks I've pulled two pair and tries to buy the pot with a raise that wipes my stack.

All-in - sweet as a nut.   :twisted:

btw has anyone here ever had a royal flush? I have not, though I saw one the other week. The highest hand i've had has been a straight flush.

I got a straight flush king high the other day, that's the best I've ever had.

I had a royal flush once a few years back whlst at Uni.

Unfortunately I played it a bit eager and everyone else folded so i ended up picking up the blinds only :(

Just got my first royal flush. first hand on the table. picked up a tidy tenner. probably could have milked it a bit more but some  fucker went all in and scared people off.

There was a 3 page article in the Sunday Mail magazine a couple of weeks back as well. One dude had 3 poker bots on different sites and was averaging a fair amount of money per hour.

I just played 3 sit and go tournaments and finished 4th,so just out of the money in all 3 of them. :x

On the last one I had pocket queens and went all in a queen came up and I had a full house but someone else had pocket aces and an ace came up so he knocked me out with a better full house, fucking annoying.

That's why I've gone off tourneys a bit of late a lot of those later last hands are down to blind lady luck.

Ever notice in pokerroom tourneys how when someone has pocket pair, somebody else on the table is more than likely to have a pocket pair as well. Just an observation I have made - happens around 2/3 of the time

I was playing on pacific poker so they were only $3 games, still very unlucky though, I was so close to the money every time.

Played 5 more today, two 3rds and a 2nd but two 4ths as well, that's $15 spent and $17.50 won so not too bad.

After losing $10 earlier on a ring game I've just won $14 for 1st in a 35 player tournament. :)

I prefer tournaments to ring games because you can only lose a certain amount, in ring games I don't play enough hands or raise enough as I'm too worried about losing a lot of money very quickly.

Fair play $500 is a big win. Did you have to win another tournament to enter that freeroll or can anyone enter because $500 is a decent prize for a freeroll, you only get $40 for winning the one on pokerroom.

No, but you have to have played 100 raked hands over 25 cents since midnight the previous day.  I can't quite work out I managed that as I haven't played since Friday just before peep-show!   :)

There's one every day and a  completely free to enter re-buy.

I've been trying to crack it for a while had a few top 10's and usually finish top 70 where the money starts but you don't really hit decent dosh until the top 5.

I'd love to Village to but I’m realistic enough to know that I’m not of the standard or have the required discipline to make the investment worthwhile.

Getting there and learning all of the time but I’ve sat and watched a couple of the big Ladbrokes players just sit and rip tables apart including the lowest stake tables giving away serious pot disadvantages.  

Think I’ll step it up a gear mind and have a crack at the larger pay to play tourneys -$10/$20 level.

If you can win a freeroll, then it would be well worth your while going in for a $10-£20 tourney, imho. Good luck Sir! 8)

What stake would you class as a high-rollers game village?

$50 and above. For me and my limited budget, $10 and upwards is risky territory! Went for a $20 tourney once, did ok, but as i didn't win any moolah, i got a bit scared off. Will probably make another attempt when/if i can win anything decent in the lower stakes tourneys

The higher price of the tournaments the better I do. Obviously because the standard is usually better and you don't get some coin flip cunt ruining it.
