Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: Barnard on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, 17:17:33 Got given it last Christmas, entertaining toilet book
Best Swindon chant is the infamous 'Going Down'/ 'So are we' one from when we played QPR in the Premiership. Is the song that Norwich had for Peter Crouch in there still? I quite liked it. Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: Sade on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, 17:25:31 I might get it for my daddy for christmas,he likes hearing funny songs like that :D

The first scene is in Princes Street and there is one part filmed on Leith Walk which is a stones throw from my flat. I think the pub where they mug the Yank is in Leith, however I may be wrong! Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: sonicyouth on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, 20:44:33 schoolboy error by me!
they beat up that yank who comes into the bar to use the bog during the fringe festival, so it's obviously edinburgh sorry for doubting you! Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: Ralphy on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, 20:45:29 Anyway Jock STFC, what the hell is going on at Hearts?

Another rich dictator ruining football :( Fuck only knows, everything is in turmoil! Apparently it is going to cost Hearts half a mill to compensate all the sackings! Robson has been put off now as he got on well with Phil Anderton, Hearts' Mark Devlin. Seemingly Anderton hadn't delivered as Romanov had wanted in his 8 months, despite getting 12,500 season ticket holders and filling the stadium each week. It is a shame really for the 'proper' Hearts fans who were starting to believe something special was happening. Kicked in the teeth now. Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, 21:39:34 Yep Trainspotting the book and most of the sequel is set in leith, they are all hearts fans.
Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: reeves4england on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, 21:40:41 That is a good book, but have to agree that its not rly worth buying it

You should definitely read it, loads about Leith.
Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: Sussex on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, 22:05:08 If you've only seen the film Ed, definately read the book. It's a whole lot better, and they cut loads out to make it into the film.
The London sex cinema scene got completely chopped out :D * :? * Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: Bob's Orange on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, 22:08:31 Quote from: "Ben Wah Balls" Trainspotting! In Porno spud is trying to write a history of Leith. The detective Rebus novels are set in Edinburgh, in fact Fettes Police Station where Rebus is based is just round here somewhere! If you've seen The Beach (film) but not read the book, I'd recommend this also. The film is utter crap in comparison and rips the heart out of the book. Oh, lets stick Leo (a yank, ffs) in there as the lead, and completely change the ending too  The book is impressive in the way it makes you build up a picture in your mind of who they are and where they are (the film knackers this completely). Two mates got the urge and did a round the world trip after reading it. Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, 22:45:16 Edinburgh's good. Me and Mrs Taylor had a weekend there last year. We went to Easter Road end everything. It was as cold as FUCK!
Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: mattboyslim on Thursday, November 3, 2005, 09:04:04 The sequal is called Porno, but Glue and other books by Welsh all have subtle links with various cameos by Spud, Begbie etc.

Glue I think is an excellent read, as is Filth which very subtley links back to the others. The acid house, ecstacy, and maribou stork nightmares are much more surreal and dark, but the short stories in the acid house make for good reading. If you read glue and like it have a read of Human Punk by John King, who wrote the football factory trilogy, also white trash by him is very entertaining IMHO.

Filth is very dark mind. If you liked Porno then you'll love Glue.
Anyone read anything by Charles Bukowski? I read his first book Post Office the other day, and really enjoyed it. All the other beat generation stuff I've tried to read I haven't got into. Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: Dazzza on Friday, November 4, 2005, 02:05:32 Filth is a brilliant dark disturbing read.
Not read the book but the Acid House Film is cracking. What's Glue about? Title: Bought An Ace Book Just Now Post by: mattboyslim on Friday, November 4, 2005, 08:38:16 A load of mates in edinburgh and it covers their growing up over a number of years, with cameos from trainspotting charcters. Not too sure it was some time since I read it, but if you like the others it's much along the same lines.
