Pot, Kettle, Black. Morientes useless, he was doing it on a higher level than crouch ever could at monaco and Madrid.

Morientes has been shite for liverpool whilst crouch has done a lot better. Morientes has always been very overrated,  as a lot of players who've played for real madrid are.

Title: peter crouch part 756
Post by: sonicyouth on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, 16:23:01
Morientes has scored 26 goals in 40 international appearances, won the champion's league 4 times and scored 72 league goals in 182 appearances for Real Madrid, all of this experience and proven goalscoring capabilities and he's only ever joined one club for a transfer fee, Liverpool for £6.3m.

Meanwihle, Crouch has won nothing in his career, been relegated once but has scored 50 goals in 164 appearance, although a large chunk of these goals (18 in fact) came in Division 1 with Portsmouth, as opposed to all of Morientes' goals came for Real Madrid at the highest level. In total, Crouch has had 6 clubs and cost a total of £15,560,000.

Fair enough that Morientes didn't have a great start at Liverpool but he's a player of proven class and I'd have him in my team in front of donkey Crouch anyday.

p.s. Ronaldo, Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Raul, Casillas, Beckham, Salgado, Robinho...all overrated? That's just the current squad.

Title: peter crouch part 756
Post by: janaage on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, 16:28:49
I do think Roberto Carlos is somewhat over rated.  But then again that's just me.

Title: peter crouch part 756
Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, 16:49:40
Raul is very overrated, Ronaldo too I would say and Carlos, I mean they're rated as the best in the world, when they're not, hence why Real Madrid have not really done much in the last couple of years, they're an overrated side. Beckham as well to be honest.

72 in 182 at Real Madrid is less impressive than 18 in 35 or whatever Crouch got last year as that was at a crap team, most strikers could score a shitload for Real Madrid and they're in a weaker league too. You can hardly blame Crouch for Soutthampton getting relegated, he almost single handedly kept them up, if he'd played against Portsmouth he probably would have.

Crouch has got 50 in just 132 starts which is very impressive considering he is as much a creator as a finisher.

Moreintes hasn't had a decent season since 2001/2002, Crouch had superb one just last year. I would have Crouch in my side over Morientes every time.

It's also worth remembering that Crouch is 5 years younger than Morientes so to have already got 50 goals is very good.

Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, 17:01:43
Well perhaps you should continue if you want to understand.

They are overrated, I mean Raul has won bronze in the world player of the year but in the last couple of years what has he done? Not much, nothing to justify that certainly - and he's surrounded by so called galacticos. That's why he's overrated, sure he's a decent player but he's not close to Rooney's class for example.

I mean you've got to realise that it's a lot easier for a very highly rated player to be overrated. If Real Madrid's team were really as good as they're supposed to be they'd have done a hell of a lot better in Europe the last couple of years, but they're not and they can't even win the Spanish league.

I think Raul is very over rated tbh, he lives off past seasons and he was crap last season.

The manager wouldnt drop Raul as he is the darling of Madrid and the fans would probably call for the managers sacking if this happened.

Southampton Dave.

Yes it's a pretty simple principle Dave, Real Madrid are one of the best  teams in Spain and have players like Zidane and Beckham who provide a shitload of quality service and Southampton....? Do you see?

Essentially it's a lot easier to score a load when you're in an attacking team at the top of the table like Real who create a load of chances than one fighting relegation like Southampton were last year.

Surely that's easy enough to understand? No?

Peter Crouch is not overrated because he is not rated as one of the best players in the world, in fact a lot of people think he is shit, hence he is underrated because he is not shit.

He's not living on past seasons either, his best season was his last one, Raul's decent ones were 4+ years ago.

Remember Reg rates Crouch and Reg is never wrong.

Post by: Dazzza on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, 18:45:44
No doubt he did very well last season 12 league goals putting him up with Andy Cole in the top goal scorers in the Premiership.  Although it has to be said that Southampton side were a tad unlucky to go down and hardly short when it came to creating chances, Kevin Phillips notched up another 10.

I wouldn’t go as so far to say that Crouch  is actually much cop although there are certainly worse around to date.

Come the end of the day strikers get judged on the number of goals they score and 18 coming into your 5th season in the top flight is not worth writing home about.  Crouch's height is his one saving grace and ticket out of the Championship.  Target men are becoming more and more of a rarity and like old Sven said he adds an 'extra dimension' to his side.  Chop a foot off at the bottom and he’s lower Championship standard at the very most.

And yes he was fucking abysmal last night.

Title: peter crouch part 756
Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, 18:49:22
It was 16 in 33 games he got last year in total, that's pretty much 1 in 2, only Henry, Van Nistlerooy who only got 6 in the league and Johnson whose were all penalties did better.

Title: peter crouch part 756
Post by: Dazzza on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, 19:02:13
Twelve league goals being the benchmark against consistent opposition to allow for a fair comparison.

Still to be fair 12 in 27 is an exceptional tally given form previous to and post 04/05.

Cup runs don't count!   :P

At the end of the day, Peter Crouch is shite

Even talking about him in the same setence as Ronaldo, Raul and Morientes is insult.

You can claim they get better service at Real Madrid and they probably do....but you know you dont JUST get to play for Real Madrid for no fucking reason.

Plus Ronaldo, Raul and Morientes all have good records at International level and in the Champions league

I bet Crouch will not score more than 6 goals in the league all season.

Btw I wasn't saying Crouch is better than Raul and Ronaldo anyway, I just said those those two are overrated, they're still very good, just not in the worlds top 10 like they're often made out to be. He is better than Morientes though.

How many goals Crouch scores depends how much he plays.

Well, Peter Crouch really is nothing like Eric Sabin. Crouch played a big part in the other goal too, no coincedence that liverpool got the two late goals with Crouch on the field and nothing when he wasn't, he changed the game completely.

Yes he did look like scoring, he set two up and caused Villa a hell of a lot of problems when the match looked to be heading for a draw, all in just 20 minutes. He should start alongside Cisse (although he was crap along with Morientes) in their next game.

His scoring does tend to vary between scoring a lot or barely at all but I think that's because he's a confidence player. I honestly still think he's a good player even when he's not scoring though.

Liverpool now have 9 wins in a row, 20 goals scored, just 1 conceded and he's started them all.

No he definitely has 6 premiership goals.

Two against wigan, one against newcastle, one against west brom, one against Everton and one against Fulham. He was only originally credited with one against Wigan so that'll be the reason for the premier league's mistake but that was overturned by the dubious goals committee so he now has 6 from 22 premiership starts.

how is that unclear?

will NOT score MORE than SIX goals in the LEAGUE
I'm not sure where you got that wording from anyway because that isn't what the original bet says so that's one reason why it's unclear but sure if he gets 5 or under I will pay dv £100, if it's 6 we'll call it quits and if it's more than 6 he owes me £100.

Ah yes I see the first one now but the bet was the second one, however I would consider scoring over 20 goals as getting 20 goals or more and so scoring over 6 as getting 6 or more but as I've already said I'll let dv off if he only gets 6, the season is not over yet though.

Two more for Crouchy so far tonight. That's 13 for the season now and 4 in the last 3 games as well as an assist and winning a penalty. He's on fire.

I wouldn't piss on him. Luckily, he's a lanky streak of piss, so he can put himself out.

raise your hand if you reckon that liverpool are scoring too many goals at once and will stop again? *raises hand*

Crouchy would've got a hattrick by now this season if Benitez didn't insist on always changing the strikers even if they're going for the hat-trick. Ah well job done.
