"He is spending no more than £10 a week on texts, which is the goal we set and he has cut down on the e-mails altogether"

If he was paying for those texts, which i assume he was, he is living in the dark ages*! Just get a contract that allows you a load of free ones every month!

*Well, he is living in Scotland

PAYG do certain sims with free texts every month, as long as you top up £10 a month. O2 definately do it, think Vodafone have something similar as well....worth changing Johno if you're still paying 12p

"On any one day, he was sending about 300 e-mails to his girlfriend"

300!?

sending that many messages is stupid. he must've been telling her everything

8.00am just woke up
8.03am brushed my teeth
8.06am crumpet for breakfast!

etc

He was from Paisley. Odds on that phone was half inched, probably from a pensioner.
