Title: Happy Birthday, Have a Parking Ticket
Post by: walrus on Thursday, October 6, 2005, 21:57:17
I've been desperately searching, mostly in vain, for a parking space on or near campus for my car as without it I won't be able to see much of Swindon with train fares being so dear.  I found a perfect sidestreet, nice and close and even manage to bag a space.  Out of consideration, I put two wheels marginally on the curb as the road is pretty narrow, but it was a wide pavement so still room for a pram or whatever on the other side.  I've been slapped with a £40 fine for having wheels on a footpath....   :x

Any clues on how to dodge it?

I park on the side of the path outside my house. Do you only get them in the town centre etc.

I park on the side of the path outside my house in Bedford as well, if people both sides didn't do that cars couldn't fit down the road.

I guess it's just for town centres more. Our Council is just bringing in a new thing where they will ticket people who park on paths (and grass verges!) but I'm hoping it's town centres only.

Technically I think it's anywhere, as people got busted in my estate at home and that's miles from the town centre.  The thing is, it would take a stingy traffic warden to do you, like the one who did me - I'm not in a town centre, though I am in a parking hotspot....

I live on the outskirts so I should be all right as it's not a busy road.

Mind you it's just been on the local news that our council our going to fine people for leaving out their wheely bins too long, so if they will do that who knows about the cars!

Who dished it, traffic warden or police?

If a traffic warden you could ignore it and hope it goes away. It sometimes does, but they can also increase the fine.

You could find a stupid person and put it on their car in the hope they just pay it without reading it.

But I guess you are screwed. Happy Birthday!
