Title: England Squad Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, October 3, 2005, 10:49:22 Quote Goalkeepers: Paul Robinson (Tottenham Hotspur), Chris Kirkland (West Bromwich Albion), Robert Green (Norwich City) Defenders: Sol Campbell (Arsenal), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool), Ashley Cole (Arsenal), Rio Ferdinand (Man Utd), Ledley King(Tottenham), Phil Neville (Everton), John Terry (Chelsea), Luke Young (Charlton) Midfielders: Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), David Beckham (Real Madrid), Alan Smith (Manchester United), Kieran Richardson (Manchester United), Jermaine Jenas (Tottenham Hotspur) Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Michael Owen (Newcastle United), Darren Bent (Charlton Athletic), Peter Crouch (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham Hotspur). Why of why oh why has Danny Murphy been left out, yet Alan Smith, and Phil Neville are in? Also Jenas has been crap this season, and where the hell is Scott Parker? I dispair, I really do. Title: England Squad Post by: fatbury on Monday, October 3, 2005, 10:55:15 Not a great side selected .. I know Peter Crouch was expected to be in .. but he has been AWFUL for liverpool ...
Title: England Squad Post by: McLovin on Monday, October 3, 2005, 10:55:35 I was thinking the exact same thing last night
Neville - Should never have got double figures in England caps. Hope he gets a ban for his antics yesterday Jenas - pure rubbish Smith - not sure he's done anything of note this season Murphy - scored loads, assisted loads, always gives it 10; should be starting, let alone in the squad. Crouch - What has he done this year? Title: England Squad Post by: janaage on Monday, October 3, 2005, 10:57:51 I'm just a little angry David James isn't in the squad. I also hope Phil Neville gets the full 90 minutes in both games and gets the opportunity to tackle someone, in a rugby styley, again, he should also be given the captains arm band.
Despite what the English may say Phil, at least Scotland's behind you. Title: England Squad Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, October 3, 2005, 10:59:01 Boo. If you all hat Jan Agge clap your hands....
Title: England Squad Post by: janaage on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:01:59 I'm only jesting with you!! I wish you well in your play off matches against France/Spain/Turkey/Czech Republic.
Saying that, least you fella's have made it to the play offs, if you don't top your group. What I'd do for that!! Oh well least there's always Euro 2008 to look forward to (well the qualification stages anyway) Title: England Squad Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:03:32 Quote from: "janaage" I'm only jesting with you!! I know, imagine how mad you'd be if Phil Neville was Scottish though. Crouch - What has he done this year? Murphy to start, what are you on Blackcurrant? You'd pick him ahead of Gerrard & Lampard?? Title: England Squad Post by: McLovin on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:28:32 apparently we are playing a 4-1-3-2, so i would have him alongside the two of them.
If we play 4-4-2, i would never play Gerrard and Lampard in the middle together. They never produce thier best when in that situation. So as unfortunate as it is, i'd drop one of them to the bench. Title: England Squad Post by: Piemonte on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:30:40 so if we're playing 4-1-3-2 does that mean becks will be "quarterback" again??
Please no. Pay attention Sven, he was MOTM for Real on wednesday night ON THE RIGHT WING PUTTING IN QUALITY CROSSES Title: England Squad Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:32:35 Quote from: "Piemonte" so if we're playing 4-1-3-2 does that mean becks will be "quarterback" again?? Please no. Pay attention Sven, he was MOTM for Real on wednesday night ON THE RIGHT WING PUTTING IN QUALITY CROSSES Quite, another good performance from Becks on the right - that's three good shows in a row. That's why we need Parker - if we are going to have 1 drop back then it needs to be someone who will do the job properly in the interests of the team - not to showboat his way into trouble. Title: England Squad Post by: McLovin on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:34:27 Groan... Becks should never play the holding role. Ever.
Title: England Squad Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:40:11 Quote from: "Dave Blackcurrant" Groan... Becks should never play the holding role. Ever. Although he is brilliant there on Pro Evo.... Title: England Squad Post by: McLovin on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:41:11 oooh, is he? I'll remember that before i next take a battering...
Title: England Squad Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:44:00 Quote from: "Dave Blackcurrant" oooh, is he? I'll remember that before i next take a battering... Yep, always wins loads of ball and never gives it away. Title: England Squad Post by: Piemonte on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:45:38 Frank Rijkard is the man for defensive midfield on pro evo.
A man-mountain who can play too. Title: England Squad Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:47:17 Quote from: "Piemonte" Frank Rijkard is the man for defensive midfield on pro evo. A man-mountain who can play too. But when you're England that information is no good at all. I have a guy in my master league who I got as a 17 year old - he's massive and is becomming absolutely awesome. Title: England Squad Post by: mattboyslim on Monday, October 3, 2005, 11:48:47 What about Emile Heaskey, if you want a physical prescene he's twice the player that crouch is, and he's on form. Phil Neville? I'm lost for words....

Phil Neville? I'm lost for words.... Yep, I was always an advocate of Emile's, but he's out of favour now. Owen always played well with Heskey alongside him, and he's not just a back to goal player, whereas Crouch is. Title: England Squad Post by: Spud on Monday, October 3, 2005, 12:11:43 Id have Crouch in the squad over Heskey anyday!.
Title: England Squad Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Monday, October 3, 2005, 12:16:50 Quote from: "fatbury" Not a great side selected .. I know Peter Crouch was expected to be in .. but he has been AWFUL for liverpool ... Eh? What games have you been watching. Crouch has been superb for liverpool and has set up most of their goals. He also had an outstanding game in Europe where he was man of the match by far and set up both Liverpool's goals. Crouch must start. Title: England Squad Post by: adje on Monday, October 3, 2005, 12:17:48 Im not a great follower of international football-but I thought Rooney was suspended. If the choice up front is Owen plus 1 other Id go for 1 up front-all the others are shite!
Title: England Squad Post by: Piemonte on Monday, October 3, 2005, 12:19:23 Rooney is banned for Austria but ok for Poland

Agree with that!, Crouch was superb up top by himself against Chelsea midweek. Title: England Squad Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, October 3, 2005, 12:58:31 But he was pap yesterday.
Title: England Squad Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Monday, October 3, 2005, 13:09:03 Chelsea can make anyone look crap if they play at full potential. Crouch has had an extremely good start to the season after an outstanding season last year so he is the odvious choice to start, it'll be a disgrace if he doesn't.
Darren Bent has also been in superb form, so maybe Bent and Crouch to start if Owen isn't fit, though I rate Defoe too. Title: England Squad Post by: Kinky Tom on Monday, October 3, 2005, 13:13:50 I'd give Bent a go alongside Owen for Austria - he's good in the air, quick, an excellent finisher etc.
Crouch hasn't scored yet this season - though he is being played up top on his own. We need to win this game desperately so need confidence - who better than the Premiership top scorer? Title: England Squad Post by: mattboyslim on Monday, October 3, 2005, 14:10:02 Damn Right, need a confident player, bent's the man, crouch is OK but no goals don't inspire confidence, bent looks a quality all round striker, no wonder SSP is struggling if that's the expectation on him.

Where would Murphy go in the midfield though? Becuase we already have Beckham and Richardson out wide and Gerrard and Lampard in the middle. Lampard never seems to play that well for England though so maybe take his place? Wheres Wright-Phillips? and Joe Cole? Title: England Squad Post by: mattboyslim on Monday, October 3, 2005, 14:26:56 SWP and COle both in the squad, must be a problem with the list. Murphy would be a good back up in midfield if Lampard or Gerrard got injured, very good dead ball delivey too.
Title: England Squad Post by: fatbury on Monday, October 3, 2005, 14:27:20 My side would be
GK Robinson 3 Centre Backs - Terry Ferdinand(sweeper) Campbell Wing backs - Wright Phillips and Cole 3 Midfielders- Gerrard centre Beckham right Lampard left With Owen and Rooney up front For this match v Austria with Rooney suspended id go for Joe Cole just behind Owen :king: Title: England Squad Post by: McLovin on Monday, October 3, 2005, 14:50:12 My team wouldn't include Ferdinand, Campbell, Wright-Rubbish, or Joe Cole
