The fan at the front of this is attending a Colombian "soccer" match, supporting his team. He has been beaten and now stabbed to death because the colour of his rucksack was the same colour of their rival team. How crazy! Title: FAN KILLED Post by: Batch on Tuesday, September 20, 2005, 22:01:41 Remember Andres Escobar, Columbian WC player killed for the own goal that sents his team home from USA 94

Title: FAN KILLED Post by: Ben Wah Balls on Tuesday, September 20, 2005, 23:23:51 That lion is well out of order. Doesn't matter what football team the bloke supported, mauling him is uncalled for.

But he got up, and even went to the match, and didn't die until after the game. Later I rued not following the bloke who kicked him so that I could identify him, but Mark got to his feet and I got back to my pint. My everlasting shame. I was a (useless) witness at the trial, when a whole bunch of thugs got off. Title: Re: FAN KILLED Post by: Quagmire on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, 19:06:08 What a random bump.
19 years later. Title: Re: Re: FAN KILLED Post by: Batch on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, 19:31:15 I was there too, sitting in the pub, and saw poor Mark Smith get his head kicked as he lay in the road. Random bump ?!I was a (useless) witness at the trial, when a whole bunch of thugs got off. But you are applying hindsight to something you knew was serious but not life threatening. Not your fault. Easy for me to say, I can only imagine how you feel. Title: Re: FAN KILLED Post by: SwindonCoops on Thursday, September 26, 2024, 07:39:48 I lived in Plymouth at the time and the whole city was in uproar about it ( naturally ). Because I went to one of the grammar schools in the area there were other lads from across the city and word went around about 'a lad from Swindon that goes to Devonport High School'. I finished school one day to walk out and find about 30 thugs hanging around 'looking for the Swindon cunt so that we can even the score'. Not ashamed to say that I kept my head down, turned a corner and then ran faster than Usain Bolt could ever dream of. Their numbers dwindled over the next few days and by the end of the following week they had moved on to something else so it all went back to normal. Scary times though - especially as I was only 12 at the time.

Title: Re: FAN KILLED Post by: Bedford Red on Thursday, September 26, 2024, 09:03:22 The next away game down there was an interesting experience Yes it was, I remember we were locked in for an hour after the match, had a police escort to the end of the park, and then left to our own devices to get to the station (which went fine for me thankfully). Title: Re: FAN KILLED Post by: @MacPhlea on Friday, September 27, 2024, 16:24:27 I was there too, sitting in the pub, and saw poor Mark Smith get his head kicked as he lay in the road. I was a (useless) witness at the trial, when a whole bunch of thugs got off. Useless fact - the trial at Winchester was taking place at the same time as three alleged members of the IRA were on trial for Conspiracy to kill Tom King at his home in Castel Combe - I was working on that trial and tracking the Swindon trial at the same time. Trust me, you can't blame yourself for what you could have done - you weren't to know he would die later on; what you do know si that if you had known he would die, you would have done the right thing. Title: Re: FAN KILLED Post by: TheDukeOfBanbury on Friday, September 27, 2024, 16:41:48 Remember it well.
Those days of taking ends and away fans in the home end, scary times. Travelling away was risky. So much safer now. Title: Re: FAN KILLED Post by: Jimmy Quinn on Friday, September 27, 2024, 17:16:21 Also remember Northampton away in 86 when a Swindon fan got stabbed before the game.
