Both teams in good form at the moment. I doubt it'll be as madcap as the Salford game. Think they'll probably just have enough to squeak a win. 2-1 late on again for Donnie. 8096 (613 gutted town fans).

Heart says 2-1 win

Head says 1-0 defeat

As long as we keep the last few games alive and not dead rubbers then that’s good enough for me (depressing to say. Any season we’re in this division snd not challenging for automatics is still failure, or should be)

Doncaster not a happy hunting ground for us in my mind, but could be wrong. Can only remember wins under Mark Cooper in 14/15 and Lindsey in 22/23. Getting major Notts County away vibes from this but did not expect us to get a result at Walsall, so who knows.

Pre match in The Gate House baht ‘at.
No need for headgear on a fine spring morning is there.
So, this is more like it, on the road (or rails in this case) for just after 6am & now settled in the pub at a civilized hour.

Thought about giving up beer for Lent, for about 1 zeptosecond.
Ditching some of the non-essential nonsense like food might help to shift some of the accumulated timber around the midriff.

Always a pleasure to visit the Gateway to Cleethorpes ahead of the big GNR v GWR derby.
Good for the step count and a very good selection of ale options by the market & the local Minster is an impressive erection.

Not a great record overall against this lot, but the only two away wins have come in the last 5 visits with only 1 defeat.
Would err towards a narrow loss today or maybe nick a point which would be more than acceptable.

Looking at the table a top 10 finish would not be an unrealistic target to aim for.
Would provide some momentum going into next season with key players still contracted, hopefully Holloway gets to finish baking his cake over the summer, maybe even with some icing sugar and nice packaging & 102 points here we come.

The owner may well shit himself if we got promoted. Top of the range expertly plumbed thunderbox required.
Anyway, a win against Dunny, sorry Donny, would make for a very happy trip home.

Speaking of happiness, the contrast of feelings between following this team in the dark days of early December (& before) and now is very welcome.

It's great for the main object of the escapsim to be better than the shit being escaped from for a change.
Well, maybe not outright happiness, but relative contentment for the moment.

Then again, five minutes of mingling with the misery guts locals has put paid to some of the contentment.
Must remember that they smile on the inside up here.

Hope that we can get a result.

Good to see the railway reference in the previous post. It's not just Crewe is it in 'The Battle of the Railwaymen'? Talking of which, I'm involved in the 80th anniversary of the first Rev Awdry railway story (he lived down the road from us in Stroud) and discovered that Sir Topham Hatt (The Fat Controller) started his railway career as an apprentice in the Works in Swindon in 1894. To think that my great grandfather might have worked with this fictive character. A good rune: 2-1 to the GWR V GNR today.

I have a bad feeling about this game I think it will finally spell the end of any possible thoughts of a push for the play offs, however remote they are in reality.

We have only ever won away at Donny twice losing 8 times in 15 meetings.

A point would be brilliant.

Interesting that we have only lost 2 more games this season than Doncaster but they have won 7 more than us.

That said they are "only" 6th in the home league table and have the same amount of home clean sheets so far as Swindon have got and have scored 4 goals less at home than we have.

A win would truly be a statement but Doncaster is always a very difficult place to visit.

Thats an interesting story mate, I was the 5th generation to work in the Railways works the first, my great great grandfather moving to Swindon around 1850 specifically to work in the works.

So I too may well have releatives that worked closely with "the fat controller" character too.

Swindon was always a way better establishment than Doncaster, Crewe, Derby or Eastleigh anyway :)

Doncaster (and Crewe and Derby FWIW) works used to instate brand new locomotives with the same mechanical tolerances as Swindon works would refurbish at the same tolerance, working to far tighter and way better quality than any other railway works in the entire world.

Just arrived in Doncaster, sun is out & the shorts are on for the first time this year.

Would be happy with a point, but wouldn’t be shocked if we managed a win, albeit a home win is the most likely result.

We need Sobowale’s pace to help cover Delaney and Wright’s lack of!

Not sure why he’s been dropped to the bench recently, because it was working nicely before.

McGregor then needs to be further up the pitch instead of Cotterill - who can darn his socks on the bench!

They've all been off the boil today, don't think any particular player has been a liability.

Not an excuse for a poor performance but the pitch looks ropey which is not helping, more than once the ball bobbling around and lack of control costs us. Think we are seeing the result of the last two tough games, four half time subs might be the answer.

Makes you wonder playing him regularly now gets him in the shop window for the summer....

I know Holloway has always rated him as a wide striker, something we havent really had this season, but wanted to blood him gently.

It's an assumption based only on where they are in their careers but I'd imagine Westley is much cheaper. I just haven't seen enough of him yet, we're comparing cameos to 30 odd games of Tshimanga, good and bad.

Surely the powers that be need to look at this. Seems that every game a keeper goes down under no challenge to have a tactical discussion. We’ve been doing it as much as opponents. Just irritating

I know you can’t make the keeper go off for 30 seconds, as you do for outfield players, but I’d make one player from that team go off in his place, so at least the team is down to 10 for that 30 seconds.

It is very annoying and agree we have done it as well.  They should make a rule that if the keeper receives treatment then no players can go to the dugout.  The down to 10 is a good idea as well but what if the keeper is actually injured and how would you choose which player is to go off.

Game of 2 halves. Was surprised with the starting lineup. Thought Holloway had learnt from Colchester. Delaney's lack of pace and Freckleton next to him was an obvious weakness, especially when up against their best player Molyneux who's been in good form. Would prefer to see Sobowale. Freckleton maybe ok defending but a liability with the ball. As much as the 1st half team selection & performance was bad, the subs made all the difference. Great to see Botan liven up the game.

Off pitch experience was interesting. Had a large row all to myself as 2 groups moved away from me because I was wearing my orange hat. One old fellow carried on commenting in my direction the whole game then at the end, was chanting Clem In, just to rile me. We had a discussion but I couldn't follow his mad ramblings.....he talks to Clem every day, Clem will document the breakdown of Admin costs, corruption in the Trust...left him and walked down to the front  to clap the players.

After being one down after 1 minute, you could cut him some slack for that. Because after that we’re chasing the game at a top three club. Then boom, no.2. So now we’re really up against it.

Whilst it’s plain to see we have come a long way, Liverpool we’kre not. Go in 0-0 at HT and who know’s how the game could have finished.

Disappointing isn’t it? Which shows how far we have come and what might have been had he come earlier. Still four points from 1st & 3rd both away from home isn’t to be sniffed at is it?

I’m not sure we would be equipped to go up with the current owner even if we did manage to sneak through the play offs and could do more damage than good. Let’s assume we don’t go up and Ollie is given the budget & players to have a go at top 3 next season.

I’m not sure we would be equipped to go up with the current owner even if we did manage to sneak through the play offs and could do more damage than good. Let’s assume we don’t go up and Ollie is given the budget & players to have a go at top 3 next season.
I'm pretty sure you are right and I'd not actually thought that far ahead. I'm just taking it game by game and enjoy looking at the table now. And I love the fact that I can actually look forward to and enjoy games again. It's been a long time coming. Ollie's breathed new life into the Club for the time being at least.

With Holloway in charge at least everyone connected to the club can be optimistic and look forward to the next game rather that the doom and gloom of finishing in the bottom 2 and going out the football league which literally could have finished the club off.

Agree here. Been debating whether I’m being a grinch in not being able to completely enjoy our up turn in form but I think this is it. Even if we pulled off the miracle and fluked our way up, with the current state of the club, next season would have high chance on being horrendous.

Sad position to be in knowing that any success on the pitch is probably despite the overall state of the club and likely wouldn’t be built on properly (as always).

10 games now to enjoy fairly stress free and then see what the summer holds.

Fucking hell.

No such luck for me for my one game back in an orange hat. I even went in the arkells.

I think it's always been the case, the difference is that they double down on their views when things are going well on the pitch, which shows that they can't or are not interested in looking at the bigger picture, which is fine - the frustrating thing is why they feel the need to have a pop at the group with a different view to them.

One of the reasons why I celebrate Holloway for breathing life back into the TEAM, but in my opinion he hasn't breathed life back into the club, the club is still the same - something that Clem supporters won't or don't care about acknowledging, again which is fine.

Well, that’s another scenario isn’t it. Next season, fresh squad with a mix of this seasons crop and some new faces and maybe a few Yoofs. Who knows how that will pan out and depends on the budgie

The only comment I’ve had wearing my orange hat is someone asking me if I was saving my pennies to buy the club, to which I replied that I’d won the Euromillions so didn’t need to, but Clem being the crook he is wouldn’t let me see the books as he’s got too much to hide & wasn’t serious about selling.

He couldn’t tell if I was being serious, but he hasn’t mentioned it again :)

I didn’t wear it on Saturday, but only because it was too hot

So would it be so bad if we went up? Why can't he be given the budget in League1 especially as we should be able to attract better players?

I’m not sure it would be ‘bad’ if we went up by I imagine our stay in L1 & our recruitment process might be very similar to our last (extremely brief) stop in L1 under Wellens.

I mean I get he needed to replace Doyle & Yates who were a massive part in our promotion but on the face it - would appear he was never given enough budget to attract adequate replacements.

We’d possibly be better off in the sense the current loan players aren’t massive important cogs for our team & if all those OOC in the summer resign but it’s debatable whether we’d be able to recruit well enough to improve the quality.

Always possible (likely) we’d sell in the summer too….because….we run at a loss & have sold anyone for decent money yet this season to claw some of that back…

Plus - the addition 2m a year in ‘admin expenses’ I assume, honestly

Didn’t the Pox lose £15m getting promoted from L1?

If we did get there with the current lit it would likely be an instant relegation battle

According to reports from 2021, 2022 and 2023 the average expenditure on wages for clubs promoted from L2 to L1 increasesby an average of £1.5m with average wage expenditure in L2 being £3.5m and £5m in L1.

So it would go up by probably around 44% on average. (using the figures provided by Capology.com).

Lincoln City spent 9.7m and 10.3m in the last two years accounted for, 23 & 24.  That's a few million more than we are spending today.  The financial benefit from the league is not big enough to cover that, and our revenue from Clem's first season is likely a good fit for a L1 season in terms of attendances.  We should be able to compete with Lincoln, but it would be even more of a stretch I think, unless something changes in the way the club is run.

The problem is if you, as someone in an orange hat, gives someone a spray, no matter how well deserved you may think it is, that reflects on the rest of the movement. Dan, Rich and Terry have been very clear that the protests are not there to persuade others of anything, and they've been very clear they don't want to see anyone being abused. Doesn't mean you can't discuss your position, but you're clearly talking about going a long way beyond that.

If you don't agree with that, you might want to consider whether you should be aligning yourself with their cause.

Is having to be the better person and rise above annoying? Sure, but that's the case with every protest movement ever.

You can do whatever you like in your own name, but you can see the problem with saying "I'm a representative of the Spirit of 69 protest group and I think you're a stupid cunt", right?

Ideally by the way, I'd say something witty like Posh which would flummox them. Probably not my preference for it to go south, but if some of the things that are said by these lot online are said in person then its anyones guess.

If I'm asked if I'm buying the club in person I'd definitely lose it, not in an angry way just probably piss myself laughing at hearing something so idiotic in person.

You've said several things in the past weeks that suggest that you're desperate to be confronted by the pro-clem movement so you can put them down as, in your own words, 'morons' and 'cunts'.

If you want to be seen in a different light you need to change your stance drastically, look back over everything you've said on this matter and try to defend your position, you'll not get much sympathy.

We're on the same side of the divide between pro and anti Clem but we're miles apart on the way the other side should be treated, having a different opinion on the matter doesn't make anyone a moron or a cunt, more uninformed or ignorant, but you just can't seem to stop throwing those insults around.

If you think that's constructive then, as I've said, you should be nowhere near the other side as you'll only intensify the division.

Suggest that you are on the money with your latest post. The current situation is very difficult for all true STFC supporters.
Possibly 75% are not interested or bothered of what is happening or not happening behind the scenes.
Suggest that all us SO69ers are thinking of the worst things are happening and most likely they are.
We can only try and point these supposed problems out and hope.
Getting into fights and confrontations with your own fellow supporters is not going to help anyone anywhere.

FWIW I do tend to agree that we shouldn't label everyone that disagrees with us as stupid or cunts as some people just aren't really fully aware of what's going on, or just want to focus on the football.

However if you take a look at that Facebook group it really is full of stupid cunts sometimes.
