I'm trusting home form to overcome our latest injury woes 1-0 win. 6819 attendance.

 definite home win this week . Cain to score the only goal .

Having to prioritise other things, but might catch the second half. Think the season is mostly done. Not sure I'm overly confident of a good result with defensive injuries and Drinan's energy missing up top.

Both teams score a fair few goals so I see another high scoring one. Possibly another draw TBH. 2-2 was the prediction in our household. Hope our home form can pull a win though, but think we will miss Drinnan.

Not sure why but I am not confident about a win today. Chesterfield have 2 defeats in the last 6 and we have 1 in the last 6, I guess I fear our good run has come to an end.

They have won 5 away games so far but in the last 5 away games they have LLDLL and havent had an away win since 14th December with a 2-0 win at Carlisle.

We havent beaten this lot in the last 5 meetings but won the previous 5 league meetings in a row before then.

I have confidence that if Ollie sets us up with the right tactics then we could win, we are very capable of that, but I just have the negativy in the back of my mind that was installed there by Kennedy earlier in the season.

We did miss Drinans running the line last week so I hope that McGregor can get some game time from the start as the wide right attacking option rather than Glatzel or Tshimanga as I think he will create far more chances for the attackers than either of those 2 do and use them as impact subs.

I think we all pretty much expected McGregor to start but hes replacing Sobo rather than Drinan I would think. Going 3 at the back to start with.

He did and when he did pass it long the 3 or 4 times not one found its intended target and lost possession.

Hes obviously low on confidence, and rightly so, but a good performance could well kick start his career, good luck to him.

Barrow & Morcambe have both lost.

If we can get 3 points today then that will open up a 15 point gap with the relegation spots with 13 games left.

Could also do with Carlisle losing as they have games in hand but they are playing Gills who also have games in hand so maybe a draw would be better😁

We also could possibly (with the right results) go up to 13th place today if we did win by a couple of goals.

I didn’t realise Carlisle’s goal difference is -26 and Tranmere’s is -27

Morecambes isnt much better either at -22.

After our 4-0 defeat at Colchester away in December only Carlisle had a bigger negative goal difference than we had (-15 to our -12) and we were sat rock bottom of the league.

How Ollie has changed things in the last 14 games.

Looks a decent turn out by Chesterfield fans today, looking like 500-600ish to me, a huge difference from their last game here when they brought a miserly 196 and never more than 330 this century.

Amazing turnaround considering the Colchester defeat and Ollie’s spat with the fans away at Bradford.

We have definately been dragged down to their level so far, poor game with little quality but I think we edged it on chances.

I hope we can play better 2nd half with the wind behind us and that the ref clamps down on their diving.

I didn’t realise next weeks opponents Walsall are 8 points clear at the top with only one home loss.

Freckleton lookled decent at left back, throughout.

Didn't watch the game, just saw a clip of the pen. Looks like their keeper was wearing a dark orange kit. How come the ref thought that was OK when playing a team in all red?

Wonder if they will try and match the Town for grit and second balls like Chesterfield did, who normally are a good footballing side playing it to the flanks who forgot all about that today playing scrappy and narrow.  It is pleasing to see decent sides changing tactics to play a team that is horrible to play against.

Not an easy watch but another home win. Main thing is to end this season well and get momentum going into next season

Now they might do this every game & I’ve just never noticed but thought they usually wore the bright orange but either way it definitely stood out to me as something different.

When I saw that the ref was Charles Breakspear, I shuddered.  The Chesterfield players conned him all afternoon. For example, Ryan Boot was faking injury for the penalty.  If he was as hurt as he looked, he would have been subbed.  He was moving freely as soon as Chesterfield were chasing the game.  I hope that the numerous travelling fans enjoyed seeing their team muck about all afternoon getting awarded numerous bogus free kicks; never taken from the correct location.

If Boot has gone to kick the ball full force & ended up kicking the bottom of Tshimanga’a boot / studs - then that will fucking hurt on impact.

A win is a win, and in terms of chances, we shaded it, if you think of Smith and Butterworth both being clear in the 2nd half.

Very strange selection, but it did the job. I thought Ofoborh and Kilkenny were better than the rest, but I wasn’t convinced by either full back. I’d prefer to see McGregor further forward, where Cotterill was playing, and have Sobowale at full back. The three of Cotterill - Cain - Tshimanga should ideally have been McGregor - Nichols - Butterworth. But 3 points feels good when you’re not firing on all cylinders.

I really hope that isn’t the case. I didn’t see the incident, but, having had a serious neck injury myself, I shudder to think about what that player might be going through

Definitely saw the physio stroke his hand as if to work out if there was any feeling. It looked nasty - made worse by the fact I don't think he saw the collision coming and couldn't brace himself for it. Hope he's OK.

Chesterfield barely laid a glove. Never felt worried. Dobra their only danger man.

On the opening day of the season they looked relatively tidy, thought they'd challenge the playoffs. Very ordinary today.

We did what we had to. Considering the injuries and line-up, surprised we dug out a win.

Cain rewarded with a shot at the #10 after some fine performances at left back. It didn't work. Not something I hope to see again.

All the defence were good, midfield were ok. Attacking 4 all struggled. Fair play to Freckleton and you'd never had known Clarke has spent 99% of his career in the middle of the park. Looked a natural CB.

We are better with Butterworth in the team. I don't have any statistic to back that up other than the eye test. He can drive us forward. We need that in a squad lacking pace.

At the same time you have to acknowledge Gunning did a job on us, tough tackling, limiting us in the air and bang you limit our attacking flow to zero.

Chesterfield fans are obviously familiar with the work of Mr Gunning, having played for them (did he coach them as well? I can't remember)...whilst Ollie deserves the lions' share of credit for our turnaround, should Mad Gav be getting some love as well?

Edit: I assume the poster isn't just really badly informed and thinks Gav is our manager?

Without being there day to day on the training pitch it’s very difficult to divide the praise up exactly as it’s deserved.

All I can really say is - I don’t remember us being particularly solid & shithousey when Gunning was actually our manager. We played roll the dice, gambling, you score 3 we will score 4, no idea what formation we’re playing Gunningball.

Also worth noting that if you watch the dugout a lot of the pitch side chatter comes from Marcus Bignot whilst Holloway remains calm & seated (mostly)

Either way - thankfully we’ve seen improvement all round.

I was just curious as to why a Chesterfield fan had singled Gunning out. Yes, I had noticed that Bignot shouts his head off constantly. Really noticed it in the game at Wycombe when hardly anyone was there. He was all you could hear!

Bignot has a really oversized head - like the TV Dr Ranj in the health food ads and, for older posters, The Mekon from Dan Dare.

Reading the Chesterfield forum they think thats one of the worst games of football they have seen! You wait until you have been in L2 for a few years, that was shit but we have seen way shitter games than that! the wind didnt help the game though.

They also think we are terrible and one of the worst teams they have played against....yet we scored a goal and won the game, what does that make them?

It was an awful game but when you set out your stall to go to the deck at every opportunity and look for free kicks rather than playing football what do you expect? They had one player I would take and that was the loan striker Bim Pepple up front who ran around a lot but had no support from a weak team, I think he would work well alongside Smith next season if Luton wanted to loan him to a better side next year.

The game itself was reminiscent of games we played with Macari in charge, slow plodding game with little quality but grinding out results late in games, as long as we can carry on then I dont mind that, not every game can be a classic sometimes it down to old school hard work and defensive solidity over quality of football.

Walsall next week will be a huge test but they have been on a pretty shit run until recently (5 games without a win but won their last 2) so who knows what will happen, we have had some big results away at Walsall even though they outplayed us in the home game. Town have won 5 and drawn 4 of the last 12 games up there.

I mean the game was shit & they did give us a massive assist for our goal.

Personally not convinced we would have broke through & scored otherwise.

Felt kinda like a reverse of our game away at Bradford. Shit game, probably a 0-0 game turned into a 1-0 game with a defensive error.

Definately this, often results like this even themselves out at the end of the season though. But lately that has not been the case with us, especially for the last 2 seasons. Maybe our luck has changed finally?

One thing though is I cannot fault our team for the effort they put in even if the quality wasn't quite there.

Weird how people from the opposition see things completely differently to us. Somewhere in-between must be the truth.

We were poor yesterday but at least we were robust instead.

Under Kennedy we were neither.

Holloway has got the defence playing as far more of a unit, and playing for each other.

That is highly commendable, even Freckleton came in and although he made a few errors did pretty well considering and made one towering headed clearance late on.

Under Kennedy all of our defenders looked like they had never even learnt to head a ball or tackle a player, the transformation has been incredible.

Also so often Ofobroh protected the defence with some crunching tackles in the DMC position, something we have missed since the general left a few years ago.

Since getting promoted out of the the national league they think they’re on the same path as Wrexham when in reality they’re no bigger than Mansfield and will never be a Derby, Leicester or Forest. :D

Missed the match as it clashed with the 6N. But if the extended highlights are an accurate representation, then I am not surprised that Chesterfield fans would say that. They didn’t have any attacking highlights!

If the match stats are correct both teams had one attempt on target, ours was presumably the penalty & theirs was the fairly tame free kick just before half time, (albeit we had 10 total attempts to their 4).

There was a telling moment in injury time when from a Chesterfield corner, Freckleton leapt to get a back post header away.

If only he had done that versus Doncaster but that may have prolonged the agony with Kennedy.

Some rumours that lad that went down injured broke his neck. The fact we've heard nothing since is really concerning. Really hope the lads okay.

Yeah the lack of a 'he's sitting up and chatting in hospital' type statement is... a concern.

Seen posted he was taken to hospital but no other info. Hope the lad makes a full recovery.

If they were certain he was fine they'd have said so by now.

If they have a doubt they could be waiting for specialist input, especially over a weekend.

The sad thing is the total lack of any even basic reporting of his injury in the media, not expecting detail but the complete silence in the nationals just goes to show how little interest they have beyond the PL.

I dunno, maybe I'm giving them too much credit but maybe they are waiting to get the full picture before reporting it.

I think the PL is under a microscope and is a bit diffrerent.

Whatever it is its a horrific injury for him, possibly life changing by the sound of things.

I hope he recovers soon wouldnt wish that sort of injury on anyone, seen it so many times and often caused by players on the same team colliding. A freak accident.

If it's as bad as it seems, when it becomes public I expect the press to take more interest in the story, it's an awful accident with potentially life changing results. The radio silence on it, bar the brief update last night, could be because they don't know the full scale of the injury yet. Swelling, surgery etc... Fingers firmly crossed for him.

I think this is spot on. It sometimes takes a while to see whether lack of feeling or sensitivity returns once swelling goes down after the type of surgery that I think he must have undergone.

Terrible game of football.

Dull, scrappy, shithousery in full flow, a penalty needed to seal it and an awful injury to a player.

Had a think over the weekend i can confirm that is the worst game i have seen that we have actually won.

I hope that lad recovers, a truly terrible thing to watch.

Was going to comment on the match but it's pretty moot all things considered.

Genuine concern for Tyrone Williams overrides any match result. Really hope a best case scenario can be achieved and he can continue a career in football.

Also spare a thought for Ryan Boot, who must feel awful about it all as well. Both are the same age and played together at Solihull Moors, so I'm sure they know each other quite well too.

On further reading, I didn't realise that the player had not long come back from a dislocated shoulder injury, which he delayed having an operation on because he's out of contract EOS; he simply wanted to play in order to earn a contract extension so deferred having the op. The guy really needs something going his way. I know football is a business as such, but regardless of the outcome, I hope Chesterfield offer him another year anyway.

Firstly, I’d like to thank you for being respectful, patient and considerate. In a time where me and my family weren’t sure what tomorrow would bring, a few days ago.

As Batch said as he's even thinking about returning to playing is a sign that in his head he's going to make a full recovery, which is in itself great news.

Holloway has had his red card overturned. Oddly phrased as "the FA withdrew charges" rather than a successful appeal, which makes it sound like it really might have just been a misunderstanding.

The ref that gave a direct free kick that handed Wrexham their equalizer for the ball hitting Brewitt's shoulder.  Should never referee another Town game.  It was blantently obvious that Holloway was yelling at the Chesterfield player who had man-handled Smith.

I must confess it popped up on social media with a picture of Holloway and starting 'we can confirm' and I assumed it would be a leaving by mutual consent announcement or something....
